Galaga is better remembered than its sequel Gaplus, or its predecessor Galaxian for that matter, but Gaplus is a very good iteration on Namco's attempt to replicate and improve upon the magic of Space Invaders.

Gaplus is easy to learn and play. It's a fairly typical early vertically-scrolling shoot-'em-up, with crowds of enemies descending in phases to challenge you. Shoot them all and avoid getting shot to keep going. Enjoy occasional bonus stages as you advance.

That's really all there is to it. If you are a fan of later shmups, you'll enjoy Gaplus as both a history lesson and just an all-around good time from the arcade's Golden Age. Recommended!
