Topic: Wii screen won’t stop scrolling

I recently got a used Wii and when I plug it in the screen rapidly scrolls down. It’s not the menu scrolling, it’s the image of the screen itself scrolling downwards. I was unable to find anyone else with this specific issue so I thought I’d try here. I use a projector so my first thought was something might be wrong there since it seems like a picture issue, but the projector works fine when plugged into other devices. I replaced the power brick and also the rca cable but still having the same issue. The audio works fine and I can click on the Wii channels with the remote, but the actual screen itself is just rapidfire scrolling down which makes it impossible to actually play. If there’s any way I can put a video here I can do that. Just looking for any ideas on what it might be or if it’s totally dead. Thank y’all!

@therobotspa It could be a tv compatiblity issue. In rare cases, there are some modern TVs that the Switch isn't compatible with. Have you tried that Wii on another TV?

Thinking out loud here, if that projector TV is a recent model, and the Wii is from 2006, which was very early in the HD days, that might be the source of the compatiblity problem.

Also, try that Wii on the other TV inputs on that projector TV. All inputs on a TV are not always created equal. Sometimes the main tv input is higher quality than the others. I've seen at least one or two people here solve a Switch display issue by trying a different input on their TV.

I don't know if there's an adapter you could use to correct the issue?

**To anyone else here: Maybe another nintendolife user here can suggest some kind of adapter to solve the issue?

My projector is actually from 2005, so it’s from the same era but it is technically older than the Wii, I don’t know if that could potentially have an effect? I’ve also tried plugging it in via other devices, so through a vhs/ dvd player hooked up to the projector instead of directly, but no luck there either. I don’t have another tv to test it on but I could try to find something.

@therobotspa If you still get a scrolling image while hooked up through a vhs/dvd player, I'm starting to suspect the used Wii you just got could be the problem, but that's just a guess. Obviously, trying another TV would be the better test. (I understand if that's not convenient at the moment.)

Could it be a PAL/NTSC issue? I have some vague memory of hearing that hooking up an NTSC console to a PAL TV could cause scrolling like that. This was a long time ago though, so I could be misremembering.

Oooh, that might be it, the Wii is a UK model, I didn’t think there were differences between the US and UK version but that might be where the compatibility issue is. Is there any way to get around that or is it just not possible to run a UK wii on a US TV?

For this situation . . . does anyone know if a Wii2HDMI adapter would help?

One of these . . .

So you end up hooking up the Wii to an HDMI input.

I've got one of these to hook up our Wii to our HDMI TV. For me I find it works quite well. I've read some other users saying the colours are off. But for me . . . I'm just glad to still have the Wii hooked up and ready to play.
