vattodev commented on Talking Point: The Logic Behind Game Boy Advan...:

I think people missed a point here. Iwata said in the board meeting that he wants the Wii U's OS to be compatible with future Nintendo hardware. That makes sense, because the 3DS OS is barely multithreaded. So porting virtual console games to the Wii U is the ONLY logic option for Nintendo in the long term. If this really happens as planned, they are going to release the new consoles with a full library of backwards compatible VC.

Yeah, no. He is comparing 80s with nowadays? Seriously? Everyone had to program everything from scratch to make low quality games in the 80s. Now you have high quality engines that make it a lot easier to make a good idea become a reality.
And about the investors, indies can crowdfund. So they don't have to use investors or board meetings. That's the whole purpose of why indies are taking more risks than AAA.

vattodev commented on Soapbox: Ignoring The Objectification Of Women...:

Even though the concept of SKB is a fun idea (brawler with air combos and specials), the excessive abuse of things that flirt with pornography doesn't really appeal to me. It's weird, because I like games with sexy girls, like the Warriors Orochi series, for example. But in those games, even though there are sexy girls, it's not forced into your game. You can certainly play without any visual abuse. SKB crosses that line and focuses too much on a very specific group of people that want a game that has 100% fan serviced characters. It's similar to porn, but lighter. Though I read that (as most japanese fanserviced games) there is a lot of character development in SKB, which is exactly the opposite of objectification.

"We really want to see how having just a single platform online multiplayer game works out." No HD release this time. But wasn't that how they did it with MH4?
@Quirky: Try Super Brachy. That's a lot tougher than G Rank Jhen. And Super Ala is really hard to complete in time too.

I'm still not a believer of those VR games. From the experiences that I read, it messes up too much with a person's ballance. I'm not really sure how they will address that, but I see a hologram being a much more reasonable step than the VR glasses. But I don't see that coming in this generation. Maybe on arcades first.

Well, from may to "2014 is a possibility" I wonder how they are going to justify charging full price for a half an year old game. By that time, unless Watch_Dogs is really a hit, the game will be selling for $30 on ps3.

@Transdude1996 Roms are made as backups. Playing a rom using an emulator is ilegal. And no one that is playing through twitch owns the original game that might have produced that rom and are not using a gameboy color to play it. Are you really saying that playing a game that doesn't give any money to the guys that made the console or the authors of the game, but instead gives money to someone that is receiving advertisement rights, is legal somehow?

Please explain why posting an image with ILEGAL ACTS is a fun way of describing this whole "Nintendo should go mobile" move? Using an emulator to play zelda on a mobile phone is still piracy, no matter what people think, and you guys should not encourage that. Next time, try using a 3DS instead, because that's the legal option.

This marketing campaign works SO WELL. Every site loves to say that it is controversial. How often do you see any site talking about a brawler? Even with great combos and action sequence, they don't really get a lot of attention. And here it is. Using it's assets in the weirdest possible way to draw attention.

@andjahiam That's pretty fast. It took me weeks before I realize that I had to kill monsters many times to make a weapon. I was expecting something like Megaman.
If anyone want a few tips or introduction to the game, I'd love to help. It's always good to meet new hunting buddies.

The only issue I find with MH being widely accepted is that people are not used to the kind of control that Capcom uses in their games. Look at Street Fighter. Every attack has an entire animation that you cannot stop. That's exactly how they work with Monster Hunter. When people come from Zelda and GOW they look at MH and think "Why can't I dodge while attacking?". But that's MH. You have to predict monster's attacks and know that your attack animation will be finished when they start the next attack. That's why people think it's "clunky". And, of course, the fact that most people don't even know the right combos to execute because no one wants to learn stuff online. MH really needs to bring back the Hunting School from the 2nd generation.

vattodev commented on Shin'en Multimedia Lining Up Another Wii U Gam...:

@cookiex Are you talking about the 3DS one? I played the Wii U version first and loved it. The 3DS one, is not a twin stick shooter, because the 3ds doesn't have two sticks. They tried to use the buttons to aim, but it's clearly not as precise as the analog sticks. So IMO Nano Assault Neo on the Wii U is one of the best indie games on the console, while I didn't enjoy the 3DS demo at all.

Cool, someone finally blaming the media for lowering what the Wii U really is. It has it's flaws, but it's not nearly as bad as the press tries to make it. Now I would like to point that NintendoLife itself is part of that problem sometimes. So please, as a site that post news for the very specific market share that really likes Nintendo consoles, be careful to not dwell too much into bad news and rumor spreading.
If Nintendo fans nowadays read false statements even in a site like this, what do you expect for the image of the console?

vattodev commented on Yamauchi's Heirs Have "Desire To Sell" Shares ...:

Isn't this news from last year? Well, at least now they said the exact amount of shares to be traded. Anyway, it's nothing unexpected. Nintendo has to protect their stocks because the family had said that they didn't want to keep it. If all those stocks went into the market, it would create a huge speculation problem due to high offer.

Good luck trying to achieve the balance that Pokemon achieved. It's not very easy for a game series to stay competitive through so many years. Even worse with hundreds of options.
Dragon Warriors Monster was a great game. But never posed a threat to Pokemon. Other clones tried at that time. We'll see more trying in the future. This could be a fun game, but it's a clone. Even though touch controls may work great for this genre.

vattodev commented on Talking Point: Nintendo's 3DS and Wii U Strate...:

@JohnRedcorn Some of my favorite indie games were released this month (Castlestorm and Unepic come to mind) on Wii U and 3DS received Kirby and Bravely Default. What I see other sites doing when there is an upcoming release like this is revisit older games in the series. I still didn't see a single article telling what changed in the series in the next DKC game. It included a new characters, who are they? Why are they important? Go to IGN. You'll see what I'm talking about. They are still talking about GTA V, Saints Row 4 and Tomb Raider every week. Why? To hype it up. Those kind of articles make you excited about a fun game. Sales and doom articles make you sad and insecure about your future or past purchases. So I think these sales articles are needed, but not this much. One or two articles covering a meeting is ok. Seven is insane.

vattodev commented on Talking Point: Nintendo's 3DS and Wii U Strate...:

@ThomasBW84 What bothers me is not the variety, it's the quantity. The reason I still come to this site is the variety.
Let me ilustrate this, in the past 20 hours NintendoLife posted 7 articles regarding sales and Nintendo's financials. While in the same 20 hours, 6 articles about games were posted. Can you see why we think that this may be too much? It's as if every time something big happens (or not so big) the site works very hard to post a ton of information about it. It's good to inform the facts. It's not so good to go too much in depth and overreact over every event.

vattodev commented on Talking Point: Nintendo's 3DS and Wii U Strate...:

@ThomasBW84 Despite being one of the best articles already written about current Nintendo situation, it doesn't stand out because in NintendoLife we read, in the past three days, about 10 similar articles talking about how bad sales is, what happened to the market or what Nintendo is doing right or wrong. It's pretty much expected that people would grow tired of reading about the same topics over and over without much really happening. In the past days you guys released many articles all addressing topics of one single event: Iwata's meeting.
I really enjoy your writing skills and it's hard to find a good news site nowadays, but we are all tired of this already. I asked before and ask again: please give more coverage to DKC:TF, BD, BD2, SKB, MH4U and the ton of new indies being released. I'd love to read articles about the combat systems, different characters, what changed in the new entries in the series, etc. In depth hype articles. I see these for many PS3/360 games, but I don't see it that often on Nintendo sites.

vattodev commented on Talking Point: Is There A Future For The Wii U...:

The only reason I think the gamepad could be replace is to attract casuals back to the game. There is a lot of people that buy Wiis to play Just Dance, Mario Kart and Wii Sports. There is no need for gamepad for those. So a wii remote instead of the gamepad could work with a few improvements on the OS. But trade it for the CCPro? Why? And the gamepad is not only the touch screen, there are the motion controls too (for aiming mostly). There are many games only playable with the gamepad (Batman, Splinter Cell).
So they could release a new Wii U with wii remote and keep the regular wii U with the gamepad, targeting two different audiences.

vattodev commented on Nintendo States There Are "No Plans" to Bring ...:

I want better miiverse mobile (with messaging and friend requests) and eshop mobile. Hopefully Nintendo can also use miiverse mobile to advertise new releases and hype up new games. These would certainly help a lot. Another thing that would GREATLY help is a full integration of Wii U Chat on mobiles. That way we could use Wii U chat while playing other games, instead of relying on Skype. And then the problem of voice chat would be solved. And it would work both for the Wii U and 3DS. I wish they were planning on that.

vattodev commented on The Nintendo Phone Almost Happened A Decade Ago:

I still wonder if these devices will ever be popular. Would you really take out your phone in the middle of a business meeting and proudly show your d-pad and buttons on it? There is still a lot of prejudice against gaming in many countries, so I don't think most people would risk their careers with such device. But you can walk with a 3ds folded on your briefcase and no one would care.
If gaming on phones become popular enough to have high quality games then I think an add on with d-pad,analog and buttons for the phone would be a better option.

@PorllM @Mahe The quote is from the last meeting with the stock holders. And Nikkei's source tells that they are NOT going to put their games on mobiles. That's why I'm calling false rumours. The rumour started by Nikkei is about demos and marketing, not about "get its games on mobile phones" as written in this article.
IMO it's more likely that Nintendo releases it's own phone with DS/3DS characteristics than it moves to Android/iOS.

Sometimes I wonder why some people like to twist the words and say something completely opposite.
Remember that quote from Iwata? That one saying that it's not so simple as putting their games on cell phones? Then why did you write this:
"Everyone seems to be telling Nintendo to get its games on mobile phones these days, and yesterday's news that the company would be announcing some kind of smartphone strategy seems to suggest that it is listening to such advice."
Isn't that spreading false rumours?
