I own this for the famicom disc system, and imo it's not nearly as good as Super Mario Bros. 2. NOA added a lot of graphical detail for the american release and Doki Doki Panic looks very bland in comparison. With no ability to run either, it just doesn't stand up to the western release. We definitely got the superior version.

I loved this game back in the day. I wish nintendo would support this franchise here in the west. Mother 3 would make a great DSi download. It would be just the thing to make me abandon my DS lite and shell out for a DSi. I've been holding out hoping Earthbound would get released on the VC, but it's seeming more and more unlikely. I may just have to get the SNES cart.

@Swerd_Murd: I have a PS3 and last time I checked Sony doesn't give you butt butter for registering games. I could be wrong, but as far as I know, Nintendo is the only game company offering free stuff to their loyal customers. The update doesn't interest me either, but didn't you enjoy the games that earned you the club nintendo points?

I just got finished playing through this game and in spite of it's lack of polish, I had a lot of fun with it. It's true that the game can be quite buggy at times, but if you can over look this, it can be an enjoyable experiece. Especially since it's only a $20 game now. I didn't find the brawling motion controls to be frustating and actually enjoyed those sequences. It kind of plays like a cross between Zelda and Uncharted and while not nearly as good as either, the variety in game play keeps it fresh. I would give it a 7.
