i think i'd also like to mention i've watched the last few seasons of America's Got Talent (does this count as reality TV?), but now that Sharon's gone, the magic is lost. I loved the season before now with her, Howard Stern, and Howie — Howard Stern was an amazing addition to the judges' table, i thought. the overall dynamic was really more positive with him replacing Piers Morgan, even though i did kinda miss the bits where Howie would totally mess with Piers, lol... ah well. :(

i also love RuPaul's Drag Race, but i wish more episodes would show up on Netflix since I don't get cable ;___;

Or people play those games because they're fun

Nobody goes to the store and buys GTA because it'll make them 'superior'. Nintendo fans just have an inferiority complex and try to rationalize people playing mature games by saying they have psychological issues.

they don't buy GTA for that reason, no, but some do wind up posting about how playing these games instead of others makes them superior over other gamers for this or that reason, same as others buy E-rated games because they genuinely enjoy them and wind up on the internet posting about how their refusal to play M-rated games makes them superior for this or that reason. it's part of our darker or more selfish nature as human beings, the need to feel superior over others, to be the one who is right and to have anyone disagreeing be flat-out wrong.

This is why we have labels like 'hardcore' and 'casual', 'mature' and 'kiddy' being used by gamers to delineate sides so that they can denounce each other in rabid fashion. Problems are always the fault of the other side, whichever label they're wearing. It's all another game where the people playing think the way to win is to have enough people to shout down the other side, but in reality, the only way to win is not to play.

To respond to the OP — an 'M' rating is not the same as the word 'mature' as a label. the ESRB has specific guidelines laid out for the rating of video games so that adults may make an informed choice regarding which games they purchase for minors, or just people in general regarding which games they might like to play. For all intents and purposes they could have used 'stopwatch' or 'flashlight' as a keyword for the rating and it would still have the same intent behind it, but they chose the word 'mature' as a key word so that people would make the connection quickly that perhaps the game isn't going to be a wise birthday choice for their three-year-old niece or something.

Does Nintendo have M-rated games on their consoles? Not many.
Does Nintendo have games featuring complex plot structure and themes perhaps requiring advanced coordination, motor skill and finesse to complete on their consoles? Absolutely.
Will people continue to complain that Nintendo doesn't conform fully to their preferred label du jour? Sure.
Should it bother you? No. It's a never-ending cycle, one you have no control over whatsoever. Put forth your own thoughts if you're up to it, but don't allow the cycle to suck you in.

In short, it's not worth it to buy into the 'label everything, draw lines and choose your side' bullcrap that 'people' want to draw you into. let them have their fun playing their silly game of words on the internet. make your own decisions, play what you're genuinely interested in, and screw what anyone else has to say about it.

@dumedum: you may consider it to be an inferior experience without the GamePad, but that's your opinion. I remember discussions like this cropping up back when the Wii was still in its heyday, with people crowing over how amazing the nunchuks were for this game or that game.. didn't stop multiplatform games from doing well on other consoles, though. Not having the GamePad as an available option won't automatically make a game 'unplayable', which is the point I believe AlexSays is arguing. The devs would come up with some sort of workaround, and the game would be left to survive on its own merits amongst a sea of available offerings in the same genre — perhaps giving it the best possible means to see how it truly stacks up against its competition.

Also, if you haven't heard about game-breaking bugs in ZombiU, then you're the only one, my friend. Mickeymac is right, there are plenty of videos on YouTube with people showing off problems, i remember watching a few back when the game first came out.

... though I don't think i'd really compare this game to Threads of Fate unless you removed all the combat stuff and exploration, as well as the dual protagonist interactions and the whole 'play this story from two POVs' thing. in terms of just running around, talking to people and learning about their individual stories, that compares, sure, but Threads of Fate went much deeper and answered more questions than this i think. Threads of Fate is a game i played over and over and over again because i fell in love with the characters and their stories. AotFM is a game i probably won't play again, even if the card game part of it was completely removed.

@mamp: making videos — even the crappy ones i made earlier in the thread — just took forever, and i have such little free time as it is that I had to stop.

also, allow me to explain: 'thewhitedragon' was an alt account for user mars11. he did it just to mess around one day, and I had to ban it as an alternate (everyone gets only one user account at the Nlife Network), thus furthering the joke that i've already defeated my 'worst enemy' :3

@the_shpydar: you so helpful :*

@Jaz007: why is this forum of people less. it was just a weird post by a random spammer, but it kinda evolved into a life of its own here at NL :3

@lz: when you stop being a noob :3

@Jaz007: it's been a while since lz was joke-banned. it's kind of an annoying process to ban and unban, really, it's not like flipping a switch or anything.

@mamp: there's a difference between genuine trolling and messing around. if you don't cross that line, you should be okay.

@AlexSays: just stay on the Chaotic Neutral or Chaotic Good side of the line. if you wind up going Evil, we'll have to go all Gamespot on your donkey :(
haha are you really still banned from there though? :3

@DeviousCrossing: Genuine trolls don't really last long around here. :3

@Karakato: lol jelly-filled donuts — not really, onigiri isn't really my favorite japanese thing to eat. I'd much rather have a bowl of noodles, or better yet an order of tonkatsu curry... mmmmmmm...

@Chris720: nope, my username has nothing to do with race, and neither did thewhitedragon, as explained above. :3

@Bobhobob: it's due to subconscious pet mind control. the dogs owned by the people running the hot-dog companies have subverted their masters into packaging two extras into each package so that when you get home with your noms and have the two extra ones and one begging dog in the middle of your kitchen, you'll be tempted to give it some.

@Cotton: there used to be, but not anymore. now there's plenty of game threads and RP threads and stuff, i guess those could be pretty random at times :3

@CanisWolfred: things are good. i like things for the most part. it's stuff that i hate, y'know :3

@ogo79: idk, but i've had that stuff before and it's pretty good, so i'll take it however it gets there :3

@mamp: regarding a NL app, please don't ask me, because i have absolutely no idea. Ant is the man behind that sort of thing and the only one who will be able to answer your question. If you want to ask about one, the Contact Form is open to you.

@Happy_Mask: Nautiluses are cool. their shells are lovely :3

@WhoBeThat: ... i think you may have me mistaken for someone else? or you might be thinking of some of my posts in the FE:A thread where I mentioned having my avatar marry Chrom or something? I don't recall ever talking about having a boyfriend here, I was married before I had an account here at Nintendo Life :3

as for what's up with LJM and Emmy, LJM is our friendly local Lord of Madness, and Emmy is his sworn enemy — an adorable baby kitten with razor-sharp claws. these are just random in-jokes that sorta crop up and then we run with 'em. if you want to be more involved, just hang out more; that's the only thing i can really recommend. whether or not you find that to be an activity worth your time is up to you.

i usually don't pay too much attention to the score nowadays, just a general 'oh it was reviewed well' or 'oh that one was apparently crap'. it's more important to me that a review touch on areas of a game i'm concerned about and, if the review didn't answer a specific question I may have had, that the reviewer (or someone else with an answer) be accessible enough to respond when it's brought up in the comment thread below.

that said, where does it end? If NL were to start using a .5 scale, we'd have people asking for a full-on decimal-point scale, for visuals/plot/control scheme/etc. to all be separately scored, etc. and so forth (and we occasionally get those people asking for such already), so what does it matter? if you're curious as to why a game got a specific score or whether the reviewer would have called it a high or low [insert number chosen], all you have to do is ask nicely and i'm sure they'd be glad to explain why they felt it fit that particular criteria over others on the scale :3
