@CB: ah. in that case, i found the 'gameplay' somewhat cumbersome. even in other 'artistic' titles (the Art Style and Bit.Trip series-es are what spring to mind, really) there's a very clear focus on the game and what you're doing as well as the music and stuff. in Between you're kinda left to explore and figure everything out on your own (unless you read about the game beforehand, of course, or are working together with your partner, which they specifically tell you not to do)... also, with the controls spread so far out (seriously, B and N are nowhere near W, and then having to control the arrow keys as well) it's just an added pain in the butt when you're on a roll and know what you have to do. i get that he's trying to get you to think, but he could've made getting around a bit easier on you. other 'artistic' games have featured much more fluid/intuitive controls, so there's no excuse IMO.

granted, i'd imagine it's a bit easier on the DSi, but i'm nowhere near inclined toward trying it out now that i've played the PC version, lol.

honestly, if you're correct in that there is no reward or end of the game when you've got the tower completed... seriously, it's not even a game at that point, just an interactive work of art. that's not a bad thing if it's what you're interested in, and there's certainly precedent for this kind of thing as DSiWare -- the Electroplankton series has about as much of a point on a gaming level. however, it's not really for me, and I do feel that Nintendo is doing people a disservice by advertising and selling these titles to the average joe as "games" as opposed to the works of art they are (which is exactly how i felt about Electroplankton when it hit the DSi Shop).

@CB: it's just something that would take far too long to hold my interest... i've got two jobs and the forums to keep track of, and by all rights i should've been painting instead of mucking around with that game, y'know? if it were possible to do it all on my own, sure, i might like it, but depending on someone else to also stay interested for long enough to keep going doesn't really inspire me to keep going with it. If there were a way to save your progress and play in chunks here and there, or even a relay system (where you could play when you could, and your friend could play when they could if you've got different schedules), again, i might like it more, but as it stands i wouldn't be able to recommend it, myself.

@jdarrell: you may as well say that not keeping track of high scores in SMB makes sense because if you choose to stomp on a series of enemies individually as you go rather than chasing a launched koopa shell down the line (for the doubled-as-you-go and eventual 1-up bonus), the points you gain come at the expense of the points you didn't gain by doing it the other way. no offense, but how does that make sense?

@Q&B: i'm pretty disappointed in the lack of high-score saving as well. i get that it's artsy and stuff, it's really about life and stuff happening to you as a person and all that, but it still seems like a glaring oversight to not give me the opportunity to do better next time IMO. He's already quantifying our choices in his games by assigning point values to them in the first place, may as well give us an easy way to keep track of how well we've managed to do according to his standards.

@SSBFan1999/Limelight 788: Nintendo did try to get CDs going for the SNES, but we all know how that turned out.

also, if Blu-Ray can hold up to 25GB, sure (idk, haven't researched it myself), but when you look at an SD card holding up to 32GB with lower loading times and no worrying about a drive wearing out or not being able to read it or anything, you start to see how maybe cartridges could be a possibility.

i don't really care either way, myself. i've got a Wii and i've got a DS, and i can keep track of both sets of games just fine. :3
