haha, i don't. the beauty of it is that that's ok, though — in the end, it's up to each of us to make of it all what we will. :3

as for why use 'game over' instead of 'the end', though... IMO it made more sense in terms of the game itself (and it being a game, even), since that's the same 'game over' screen used in each of the other games [that featured straight-up game overs; i don't believe Runner did]. it was part of the 'letting go' that we are forced to accept, that CV's game is finally over.

@BleachFan888: It's a decent theory, but it completely ignores his friends.

in Core, he learned he wasn't alone, but everyone else he came across looked just like him in Void. I saw Runner as more joyful than escapist, at least at first... he's running through a world of creatures and objects fantastic and new, meeting all these friends he's never come across before, but this time around one of the bosses also comes to life — Mingrawn Timbletot.

After finally conquering the city with his innocent love of everything presented to him, Mingrawn reappears to CV and co., incorrigibly full of hate. CV tries to make peace (the heart) but Mingrawn wants no part of his friendship (the skull, the 'no CV' figure) and mockingly states 'you are not a man' before flying away into the sky... and everyone else follows.

they fly through space together, the group of new friends, until Mingrawn shows up again with hatred and death for CV on his mind, and CV seems to finally snap and respond in kind. he starts with 'determination' to take Mingrawn out so that he won't be able to hurt himself or his new friends, gradually working his way through the steps of finding and taking him out... through 'patience' and 'desperation', then 'frustration', 'anger', and finally he 'fall's from his former state of grace. IMO, he figured that if Mingrawn had it in for him he'd also wind up attempting to take out all his newfound friends... Fate to me felt as if it started out with CV attempting to protect himself and his friends by merely taking Mingrawn out just like any other boss, but it got too complicated for our poor CV and finally he wound up sacrificing himself to protect everyone else (thus the tear from CGV and his ascension).

the heartbeat-esque line in 'fall' faltered and faded into a flatline a few times just before the final boss of Fate iirc, so naturally there's no more 'heartbeat' vibrations in the controller in Flux. it doesn't so much feel to me that he's escaped the natural beat of the music as it does reinforce the fact that our beloved hero is no longer among the living. his friends have abandoned him because where he's going, they can't follow... he's going home, back to the beginning of it all (thus the Beat-style gameplay). I do agree that the end sequence is pretty much what you make of it (create your own music without being tied to either success or failure — quit, don't quit, noodles, don't noodles), but I don't agree that he's a dying old man in the end — to me, it felt as if he sacrificed himself in the prime of his life, and now he's left to reflect on his choices and realize everything will be okay in the end. he can't do everything, and he's done his part in life... now he just has to let go and allow nature to take its course, and the cycle to eventually begin anew.

it's not a "big, fat, depressing 'GAME OVER'," it is what it is, and there's nothing we can do to stop our own eventual 'game over's, either. the only thing we can do is make the best choices we can make and try to do right by ourselves and by our friends as well.

anyway, i ramble, and i've probably missed some random important crap and managed to totally go off-topic somehow, but that's pretty much my take on the end half of the series — the joy of runner, the innocent determination that eventually led to his fall in fate, and the gradual acceptance of flux.

they could be quantifying by (number of bugs worked out before release) vs. (number of bugs patched/fixed after release)... that'd be a lot of pre-release bugs worked out to be able to claim it was '99.9% bug-free' at release, though, haha.

According to the Zelda Wiki OoT article, at least, it seems that all builds of the game were completed before the original release date, meaning that the version with the islamic-sounding chant and the version(s) without it were all created before there could possibly have been any kind of outcry and demands for alteration. It's just a wiki, though, and it doesn't provide any kind of outside source for the info, so believe what you will. If you want some kind of official response, your best bet would be contacting Nintendo proper to see what they have to say.

i already posted this earlier to one of the Bit.Trip features, but my personal ranking goes as follows:

  • CORE = RUNNER
  • FATE
  • BEAT = FLUX
  • VOID

i put Runner and Core as equal to one another because generally if someone asks me what my favorite bit.trip game is, it'll be one of those two that come out of my mouth. i can't really choose between them, so don't ask. same for Beat and Flux :3 the only thing i know for absolute sure is that Void is at the bottom of my list. also, i love them all (except Void), so really having to put them in some kind of order has very little meaning in the long run, haha.

as for a seventh game, idk if i'd even bother, unless it was maybe some kind of epic love story-ish thing with CGV following CV from the end of Fate to the ultimate end of his journey in Flux. they wrapped up CV's story pretty tight, y'know.

I do agree that Apollo himself isn't much of a lawyer (yet), but then I don't really feel that was the point of the game. Any new person coming into AA4 as the main character would have some gigantic shoes to fill, so they didn't really bother — they created an entirely new style of story (in comparison to the original trilogy) and used Apollo Justice to showcase the greatness that is Phoenix Wright himself. I love Hobo!Feenie, he is seriously amazing and deserved every bit of his mentor-ish role, which was fantastic IMO. After having spent the entire original trilogy playing the fool himself, he finally got to be the guy in the know, kinda pulling the strings himself, and to me that was a satisfying thing to have play out before me. that's why it's my favorite, haha :3

As for no Maya, Iris, Pearl, etc. — if it'd been two or three years of disbarment, i would've been more suspicious at the lack of any of his friends hanging around, but seven plus him doing the vagrant thing, yeah I can see some leaving him to his own devices and the others staying far away so as not to wreck everything he was trying to do (or hell, them being busy with their own careers during the events of AJ, lol). Edgeworth, the Feys, and everyone else all played their story out through the original trilogy, and it was an awesome story at that, but too much of a good thing is a bad thing. AJ was a much-needed break from the existing tales of craziness and woe, I thought. If/when we see another main-series sequel, I'd definitely like to see (or at least be told?) what happened to the bigger players (namely the aforementioned Feys and Edgey), and also to see perhaps a stronger (wiser?) Apollo taking the helm for reals, haha. idk how they'd manage to wrangle that all together without Shu Takumi, though. I want a sequel, but not if he's not there directing it and making it as awesome as everything else he's had a hand in. :(

I did feel it was odd that there were no other cameos than Phoenix and Ema, but in retrospect I do think it was the best choice in terms of Apollo Justice. AAI was pretty ridiculous in the cameo respect — Butz and Oldbag are best served in small doses, not continually used over and over. Give some other characters a chance to shine. I liked how they reused Adrian Andrews and Lotta Hart over the course of the original trilogy, they fit with the cases they were used in very easily. In AAI they had to talk pretty fast to make it believable — even the connection between Gumshoe and Kay felt like a stretch to me. IMO, it would've been better just to use some new characters that didn't get in the way of poor Edgey's natural greatness. Edgeworth isn't some newbie pulled in off the streets, he's a solid fixture of the original trilogy and he deserved better than what AAI handed him — for crap's sake, the final case is supposed to be the best of what the game has to offer, and that was just a horrid, drawn-out mess. Hopefully Capcom will fix everything in AAI2; the Gregory Edgeworth thing has me intrigued and i don't want any cameos of annoying people screwing that up.

i get where you're coming from, though. being the weakest game out of an otherwise excellent series (usually) isn't a bad thing, i guess. i was just messing around with the 'them's fightin' words'; i just found it funny that we were on the opposite sides of that particular fence. plus, i don't get to use that phrase enough :3
