We're not the only ones who get those games — other countries do too. they get released here in the US, but they're not solely made for the US market.

(a) we're not talking about the protection plan or whatever, just straight up defective-item exchanges. i think there's a bit of communication error going on :/

(b) 'i've seen instances' =/= they'll never let anyone do it — i've never had a problem returning anything else to Wal-Mart before, and I'd raise hell knowing their return policy explicitly states that I can do something and then they turn around and try to tell me I can't. have you considered that there may be other issues regarding those particular individuals and their history of returning items to Wal-Mart?
And don't tell us again that you work there and they won't let you do it, blah-blah-blah — no offense, but i know from working retail myself that working in a store means you'll get a percent off merchandise and other little perks sometimes, but you can't do everything a normal customer can do because you're not one of them anymore.

@tendoboy: you're talking about something completely different than a 'defective game', then. what you're describing is if you scratch the game yourself, but an honest-to-god defective game is one that's messed up as soon as you open it (e.g. the scratches or problems were there before you had a chance to have caused them yourself). Wal-Mart (and any other retailer, i believe) will exchange defective games (within their specified guidelines, of course), but games you messed up yourself are another story.

edit: very cute, I can play the quote game too. You forgot this codicil to that particular guideline:

If the above-referenced items are defective, they can be returned within 90 days with a receipt and the original packaging. Defective units may be exchanged for another unit of the same title.

@Wheels: the vast majority of DS games are not DSi-enhanced, thus the problem with being forced to keep a WEP connection available if you want to play them online. Again, a Nintendo Wi-Fi Connector solves it :3

that said, if what you're saying is true, the OP already said they were using a WPA2 connection...? they should've been able to get online with no problem, then. ah, i see you guys posted before i did — idk the answer to that one.

this. DS games still requiring a WEP connection is a known issue that became a problem when the DSi hit, as the DSi can handle more advanced security settings than the DS could. if you have a Nintendo Wi-Fi Connector, you don't have to worry about it though :3

@TeeJay: years ago I heard that if you were to stop them when you see them doing that and ask them for a plastic-wrapped new copy, they would give it to you. if i were you, i'd try that next time you see it happening, and if they refuse, try taking your business elsewhere. In my area, you can usually get new games at Wal-Mart for two or three bucks less than GameStop anyway (the only problem is finding them at W*M, lol; their selection is somewhat limited).

@cheetahman: i know if the game is in the display case as opposed to having a case out on the shelves, they won't give you one, not even one of their little generic plastic cases. when they started purging their GBA games from the display cases, they started loading DS/3DS game carts into it, so that's probably where that came from. If you can find the case on the floor for a used game, they'll just pop the game into it and let you have it when you purchase it.

also, i know Oddy brought up the whole 'opened games' argument going against GS, but i'd say that within the past two or three years, i've never had a problem with them giving me a shrink-wrapped game right off the bat when i bought new. before that, yes, i remember plenty of times where they'd give me an opened case, pop the game inside, and then slap a sticker over the opening and call it 'new', but i haven't had that happen to me in a long time now. :3
