I like that they're openly acknowledging the two biggest problems with the 3DS launch — price tag and lack of first-party titles. Sounds like the Wii U might be okay.

If you play the game as pure racer, you are going to go down hard sometimes, but if you think of it as a Mario Kart game, all the supposed problems with the games have solutions.

You can also avoid the blue shell with good timing in at least one previous game. Time will tell if that is possible in this one.

exactly! hopefully avoiding the things you need to avoid will be just like MKDS, lol — but you're so going down on Sunday regardless >:3

as for pleasant surprises, Radiant Historia is mine. I've never truly enjoyed an Atlus game before, and to have RH freakin' blow me away with its damn-near-perfection like that was craziness.

biggest disappointment for me was Ni No Kuni being announced for PS3 as opposed to the DS version seeing an English translation. sigh.

Re: Nintendo Handhelds. Other Countries?

theblackdragon

(1) American electronics are generally compatible with Japan's voltage. Some things may be a little wonky, e.g. clocks running slower and radios not picking up stations, but your game consoles will be okay.

(2) the GBC, GBA, DS, and DS Lite are not region-locked. Any NA GBC, GBA, or DS games will work on a Japanese or European console, and vice versa. However, DSi and 3DS games are region-locked. While both the DSi and 3DS will play any region DS games, as for DSi and 3DS retail titles and DSi/3DSWare you'll have to purchase within the same region as the console.

(3) you can buy travel converters for voltage in most electronics stores here in the US; i'd imagine you can find them even easier in Europe. :3 You'll be fine with a converter.

(4) Nintendo's home consoles (the NES, SNES, GameCube, and Wii) have always been region-locked; you will need to buy same-region titles for them. As I explained above, from the Game Boy to the DS Lite, all of the handheld consoles have not been region-locked, but the DSi and 3DS are.

Gaming related Pleasant Surprise: Agreeing with a Mario Kart review

The game isn't out yet. How could you agree?

Because it's ****ing Mario Kart. I've never seen a series be more stagnant, and this is the only review I've seen that has the balls to call them out on it.

that's not balls, that's just their normal ~ edgy ~ style. don't mistake the two, lol.

Re: Do you like mistletoe?

theblackdragon

@BlackFira: "Mistletoe can be deadly if you eat it" was a line Batman said to Catwoman in Batman Returns — she had replied with "A kiss can be deadlier if you mean it"... later on in the movie, when Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle wind up dancing together (at Shreck's ball iirc) she winds up saying the line Batman had said to her, and he repeats the line Catwoman had said to him — that's the point where both characters suddenly know exactly who the other is.

Re: Ideas for the site

@Tate24: When we lock a thread as a duplicate, we make sure to find the original for you (or make sure someone else has already done so) before locking it so that you can post in it along with everyone else and (possibly) get what you need from the existing discussion. Just to be clear, no one is in trouble when we lock/redirect a thread — we know the search function is busted, and we do apologize, but hopefully it'll be fixed with the upcoming site revamp.

We appreciate your patience! :3

Re: SD card games transfer

theblackdragon

@Gunblade: You can't transfer downloadable games from Wii to Wii like that. Since your old Wii is toast, you may be able to send it and your new Wii in to Nintendo and they can make the switch for you, but you can't do it from your end. Try contacting Nintendo proper to see if you can work something out.
