I don't remember where and would have trouble finding it again, but I found another site reporting the same thing separately (from another guy who went to one of those pre-release events), which leads me to believe that the feature WAS mentioned at some of them.

if you go through the comments on the Kombo post, the dude who was there at the event for them posted that he had heard that straight from the lips of the person speaking to him, and had even questioned them about what they had just said, and then after the article was published they got the call from Nintendo. There's no telling whether or not the representative doing the talk was just confused on that fact herself, though, or whether it was actually true (and i hope it's true ).

as for what game I'd like to see first? Superstar Saga! I never had a GBA when that came out, I never got to play it, and everyone says it's better than Partners in Time (which was a disappointment, IMO; there was only one part in the game I really liked and that was it :/). I would love to have that available. :3

edit: why do I keep saying Kotaku? It was Kombo.com... o_O;;

Re: DSi, downloadable GBA games?

from the Kombo article, which was updated after the NL article apparently:

EDITOR'S NOTE: Nintendo called Kombo up today and requested that it be known that some of the above information is not officially announced for North America and as a result, may not be completely accurate.

Specifically, they told us that you will not be able to play GB and GBA games directly from your SD memory card. Also, downloadable GB and GBA games have not officially been announced for North America (only Japan, so far).

Nintendo is holding their GDC 2009 key note speech tomorrow. Expect to be informed of the complete capabilities of DSi tomorrow. As always, Kombo will keep you updated.

that's weird, though. why didn't NL retract/update that when Kombo did?

There's a lot of places that already offer normal wireless (McDonalds, Panera, Starbucks) to their patrons, so I don't see why they (McDonalds, at least) wouldn't be willing to modify whatever existing setups they've got and then make a big fuss via commercials, cardboard stands, signs, etc. about how kids can bring in their Nintendo DSs and get an extra pokemon or play a new level on (insert game here). It would help bring in the customers for them, IMO.

A DS cartridge can hold 1GB (1024MB)

everything I've been able to find online refers to DS cartridge capacity in mega and gigabits, not mega or gigabytes. a 1Gb (gigabyte = GB, gigabit = Gb) cartridge would actually hold somewhere around 128MB, if the online converter I found is correct.

I don't see what would be stopping them from making cartridges that would be big enough to hold all three discs' worth of information, though, except maybe price. the size is there -- they've got MicroSD cards with crazy capacity (how the heck could i possibly take 8 gigabytes worth of phone pics, lol). If I were to re-buy FFVII, I don't know that I would want to pay like sixty bucks for it because they had to come up with a high-capacity cartridge to put it on. I'd rather see them re-make it entirely like they did with FFIII/FFIV.

I agree with you -- i think I was able to beat SMW (with all exits) long before I finally beat SMB3 without warps, and we'd had it ever since it came out (i remember my parents running out to buy it and then playing it all night, hahaha). There are some parts of SMB3 that still give me trouble on off-days, like the second half of world 5 (darn those flying beetle-things and that stupid flying fire-chomp thing), though I can usually breeze through SMW with no problem except for the Special area.

SMB3 would definitely be my favorite if, like Digiki said, you could replay levels at leisure. I know you could in the GBA Super Mario Advance 4 version, but I don't think you can in the NES version... then again, i've never tried. hmm...

Rhythm Heaven. I'm goofing off until I can get Chrono Trigger from my hubby. It's a cute game, I like how simple the graphics are, and how it doesn't take itself seriously at all... i know that sounds weird, but it's not a game where you're rushing around to save the world or the princess or to be the number one assassin/pokemon trainer/blah-blah-blah. it's relaxing, almost.

i'd have to go with the '89 TMNT game for the NES. i remember my brother and I played the hell out of that game, no guides, no nothin', and we could never get past that stupid turtle-van section of the game where you had to find the missiles and then the ropes to get across the buildings and stuff. i've never seen the ending of that game.

on a related note, that was the first AVGN episode i ever saw, and i would say he was freaking spot-on.

Looks like that might be the problem. Here's what the manual says about playable file formats for DSi Sound:
AAC files with .m4a, mp4, or .3gp filename extensions
Bitrate: 16 kbps to 320 kbps
Sampling rate: 32 kHz to 48 kHz

Try using iTunes to convert your files (highlight files, right-click, then 'create AAC version' -- you can also rip CDs straight into AAC format via Preferences or Options IIRC, and you can set your default bitrates there too); it saves them as .m4a, and they play just fine on my DSi. :3

Re: Considering Homebrew to play missing games

did you upgrade your Wii to System Menu 4.0 yet? if you have, homebrew may not be an option for you at the moment, as 4.0 rendered the Twilight Hack unusable.

If you haven't upgraded yet, you should be good to go, just be careful if they end up packaging system updates in with those games. updating your system with an update from the wrong region (a PAL update for a NTSC/US Wii, for example) will semi-brick your wii.
