GameStop might sell disc repair kits (and I'm pretty sure places like FYE and Blockbuster do too), but I can't find anything on their website advertising that they do repairs themselves. you could try calling your local GS to find out. :)

a common fix is replacing the connector when the NES stops playing games. here's a guide that shows the replacement process... you can buy the parts from that same website, apparently, and they also offer repair service for your NES for about $30 (though you pay all costs to ship it to them and have it shipped back from them).

should you not want to buy things or have repair done through that website, i'd reckon a quick google search would turn up a couple more places for you to try.

Hmm, do you think they would keep the original 4 characters? I expect Toad would be replaced by Yoshi or something as Nintendo seemed to have abandoned the idea of him being playable in the main series a long time ago. If Mario Tennis is to be believed though, Yoshi meeting Birdo at the end of the level could bring up some unwanted complications...

i think they would be more likely to add new characters to play with (Yoshi, Wario, maybe... Bowser? he gets pretty ticked when a new enemy shows up to steal the spotlight, lol)... taking the original four away from New Super Mario Panic (Super Mario Panic is a much better name than SMB2, kudos to whoever came up with that first!) would be a shame. though i must say i wouldn't miss Toad at all to be honest. I prefer playing as the Princess. :P

I would very much like to see them getting rid of the slot machine minigame, though, or maybe adding different ones to choose from so that the slot machine game is no longer the best way to get extra lives from (because I suck at the original NES version... the All-Stars version, though, I can rake in the 1ups from that thing! wtf, nintendo).

it would truly be a thing of awesome if New Super Mario World was the direction they took the NSMB series in... or heck, if they remade SMB2 (the doki-doki panic version, not lost levels) and SMB3 as well, with the powerups and enemies and stuff specific to those titles (but in SMB2's case, wrangling it into a more fitting Mario Bros. title than what we were given). That would be so much fun...

The screen protector is taking the damage your screen would itself. If it's got scratch lines in it, great -- that's what it's there for. Mine was scratched up to all hell when i finally traded in my DS Lite, but the scratches on the protector weren't visible if I was playing a game; they were only visible if I held it up to the light just the right way. No big deal. Also, that screen protector is taking damage that alternative styluses (read: fingernails) might leave behind if you get lazy and don't bother with digging out the stylus just to get past the warning screen and into the game.

also, you do know your DS itself came with an extra stylus, right? Even Nintendo acknowledges that some people are going to be silly and lose their styluses by mistake. It happens, I just wish they wouldn't sell them in a package because I know I won't need them and I'd like to pay less for the protectors overall (a penny saved is a penny spent on another game) and not have as much clutter sitting around. :P

Next movie I am definitely seeing in the theater is going to be Star Trek... I have this gnawing feeling in the pit of my stomach that this movie is going to be so terrible that I'm going to love it because it is so very terrible. :/

edit: good lord, you're right. i don't know where i got it in my head that Bay had anything to do with this... i guess it's because it's shiny and reminds me of the Transformers movie. o_O;; i still think it's going to wind up lovably terrible, though. :P

watch out that you don't get a DS Lite set by mistake -- the screens on the DSi are larger, so Lite screen protectors won't be big enough. They stay on your screen with a light adhesive... be careful to clean your screens really good beforehand so that there's no dust/oil from your hands to keep the adhesive from sticking properly, and do your best to find a room in your house that isn't dusty, because airborne dust will get stuck to your protector just as quickly as dust on the glass itself will. You should be able to peel it back off and reposition it a couple times if you accidentally get some air-bubbles or put it on a little askew, but it's not something you're going to want to peel off again after it's all set until you need to replace it for whatever reason.

The protectors I got were like 8 bucks or so, they came with three styluses, a screen cleaning cloth, and a little case that holds four DSi game cards. it's all pretty cheap, though (the game case i especially don't like very much; i'm afraid i'm going to damage one of my games trying to get it out of there one of these days), and i wish they'd just had the protectors available for purchase instead of the entire set, because (in my experience with the DS Lite) none of the rest of it is going to be used. :3

NSMB uses the 2.5D more in the level-selection. The levels/toad houses themselves are straight-up 2D with 3D (think Mario 64) sprites, so there's no weirdness with the actual gameplay at all.

I liked the way Yoshi's Story looked and the way the levels were set up... the story was lame, though, there weren't enough levels, and the 'the goal of the game is to get a high score and then try and beat it' deal was BS. I loved Yoshi's Island and was sad that Yoshi's Story was nowhere near it in overall fun.

96 kbps is radio quality; there's a distinct hiss in the background and some warbling/distortion going on. 128 is standard (or good enough to sound right, lol), and 256 is near-CD quality.

you can re-encode a file at a higher bitrate to a lower bitrate with no problem, but attempting to re-encode a file at a lower bitrate to a higher bitrate will do nothing with regard to sound quality. It's like attempting to save a jpeg as a bitmap file; the compression damage has already been done.
