watch out that you don't get a DS Lite set by mistake -- the screens on the DSi are larger, so Lite screen protectors won't be big enough. They stay on your screen with a light adhesive... be careful to clean your screens really good beforehand so that there's no dust/oil from your hands to keep the adhesive from sticking properly, and do your best to find a room in your house that isn't dusty, because airborne dust will get stuck to your protector just as quickly as dust on the glass itself will. You should be able to peel it back off and reposition it a couple times if you accidentally get some air-bubbles or put it on a little askew, but it's not something you're going to want to peel off again after it's all set until you need to replace it for whatever reason.

The protectors I got were like 8 bucks or so, they came with three styluses, a screen cleaning cloth, and a little case that holds four DSi game cards. it's all pretty cheap, though (the game case i especially don't like very much; i'm afraid i'm going to damage one of my games trying to get it out of there one of these days), and i wish they'd just had the protectors available for purchase instead of the entire set, because (in my experience with the DS Lite) none of the rest of it is going to be used. :3

edit: oh, wait, you meant Wii shop. I dunno... i would think they'd bring GB games to the DSi before the Wii, considering they were originally designed to be handheld/portable games in the first place.

NSMB uses the 2.5D more in the level-selection. The levels/toad houses themselves are straight-up 2D with 3D (think Mario 64) sprites, so there's no weirdness with the actual gameplay at all.

I liked the way Yoshi's Story looked and the way the levels were set up... the story was lame, though, there weren't enough levels, and the 'the goal of the game is to get a high score and then try and beat it' deal was BS. I loved Yoshi's Island and was sad that Yoshi's Story was nowhere near it in overall fun.

Kirby had Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards (I believe it's available on VC actually), but it was pretty much 2D platforming in a 3D setting. I preferred the cutesy, fully 2D look of the prior Kirby games than the 3D graphics. :(

there's a game or three (Elite Beat Agents, Ouendan, Rhythm Heaven) that I would absolutely not recommend playing without a screen protector... when I traded in my DS Lite, I cleaned the stuff out of it first with alcohol and a soft cloth, and when i got to the touch-screen I noticed that if I tilted it the right way there was a cloud of tiny scratches in a circular pattern. definitely EBA/Ouendan's fault.

96 kbps is radio quality; there's a distinct hiss in the background and some warbling/distortion going on. 128 is standard (or good enough to sound right, lol), and 256 is near-CD quality.

you can re-encode a file at a higher bitrate to a lower bitrate with no problem, but attempting to re-encode a file at a lower bitrate to a higher bitrate will do nothing with regard to sound quality. It's like attempting to save a jpeg as a bitmap file; the compression damage has already been done.

what about the Game Boy? the last thing they developed for the GB was Final Fantasy Legend II, and they were releasing FFIV and FFV before and after respectively. Square released games for the GBA (FFTA, FFCC, some DQ-based stuff and ports of console Final Fantasy games), too.

it could be that iTunes default bitrate is larger than that of your original MP3s... re-encoding a 128kbps MP3 file at 256kbps, for example, would make the file larger (even though it wouldn't do anything to the sound quality; it would still sound like the original file).

as i understand it (after wallowing through Wikipedia and its offsite references), it came down to memory capacity between CDs and cartridges. FFVII was originally going to be in 2D. However, for some big convention they (Square) came up with a demo showing what they thought the next evolution in RPGs would look like (it was a 3D battle featuring Shadow, Locke, and Terra against an enemy with animations for spells and attacks and stuff) and they decided that they wanted to have FFVII in that kind of style. The new graphics/motions made the game so large it could only be on a CD (three of them, in fact, lol). The game was moved to the N64 while they were still mulling over having the N64 be a CD-based system, but when Nintendo told them to put their game on a cartridge, Square got pissed and ended up taking their game to Sony.

Definitely a question for Nintendo, you never know what repairing your Wii will require. Back up your save files just in case... If they end up formatting your Wii system memory, you'll lose all your existing save and channel data, though without erasing your Wii Shop account you should still be able to re-download everything you had bought previously.

Original GB games are indeed compatible with the GBC, though their palettes will be limited just like they were on the Super Game Boy. If you've got a Super Game Boy, it'll run GBC games too (and some GBC games will have special palettes/frames available for use).

As for games, I think I only really played Pokemon and Zelda: Ages/Seasons on my GBC. the various incarnations of Pokemon were enough, lol... I had red, blue, yellow, and silver games all running at once at one point hahaha.

The parasol was first featured in Donkey Kong as one of Pauline's lost items you could collect for points in certain stages. The official art for SMB2 shows Toadstool/Peach (pink dress, Daisy always wears yellow though her hair has fluctuated from blond to brunette), and she kinda floats along with the dress, not any kind of parasol. Toadstool first used the parasol as a weapon in Super Mario RPG.

To be fair, though, Toad being quick and Peach's affinity for floating first appeared in this game, iirc. I think it's also the game where Mario is first singled out as the most well-rounded character of them all; he's not really the best at jumping high, jumping long, running fast, or at pulling things out of the ground, but he's decent enough to not suck outright at anything, either. :3
