What kind of awesome stuff have they had? I've heard of some pretty awesome stuff available on their Club Nintendo store, but I don't know if I've heard anything about their Platinum bonuses before. Also, do you know if getting the Platinum bonus might result in missing out on a totally different gift for Gold level, or do we get both?

well, for example, the 2005 platinum-level gift for Club Nintendo Japan was the Wiimote TV remote control (it's seriously a Wiimote for your TV, i'd take that in a heartbeat lol), and the 2006 platinum-level gift was either Tingle's Balloon fight for DS or a Wiimote battery cover etched with your personal Mii of choice. 2007 was (is still) the year to beat, though, with either the Super Famicom Classic Controller or the 2-disc Super Mario Galaxy OST as platinum prizes (or i guess you could choose the calendar as a platinum member, but why the hell would you want to???). here's last year's Club Nintendo Japan rewards, click the tabs at the top to switch between platinum and gold prizes. looks like platinum members get to choose one of the three items, and the gold prize is the lamest of the three (but still nifty).

personally, i'd just like to have some of this stuff [read: the controller and the Mario Galaxy OST] available eventually to purchase via Coins... i would way rather pay 800 coins for the controller than the hanafuda cards or the Game and Watch DS compilation that's up there at the moment. :P

The Samurai Slice and Karate House/Karate Man levels can stay, but my ideal version of this game would have a Built to Scale level, probably Space Soccer, and either a Fan Club or Drummer Duel level. :) To be honest, Love Lizards is my favorite level in the new Rhythm Heaven, but it's too easy for repetitive playthroughs.

Either way, it sounds like a great idea! I'd buy it in a heartbeat so long as it featured something I liked. :3

Nintendo is banning hackers who use cheats while playing Mario Kart via wi-fi connection. obviously, the looming threat of wi-fi bannination won't stop everybody (as evidenced by my link...), but it looks like Nintendo is working to make things difficult for online cheaters.

as long as you can ignore or turn off the hint system, what's the harm in having it there? if i have to choose between using a game guide to get past a particularly tricky part of the game or listening to an in-game character/watching an in-game animation giving me a general idea of what I need to do next, at least the in-game hint doesn't feel so much like I'm cheating myself out of the general experience by asking for outside help.

I believe that if Nintendo were to release a Mario game on Wiiware that was in the same style as the originals, and they gave it appropriate advertising, it could be the answer to their problem that only a small number of Wii owners use the download service. If they were to generate enough hype then a lot of people would start using the service leading to a lot more sales of other titles too. Mega man 9 was hardly a failure and I feel Nintendo are missing a trick by not doing this. Surely with todays technology it wouldn't be that difficult for them to create a new Mario, also I would be quite happy to pay a little more for it than the average VC/Wiiware game .

it's a good idea in theory, but a Wiiware-only Mario game would (a) alienate Wii users without internet access, (b) alienate users who are not comfortable with giving out their credit card information over an internet connection (which is a real concern nowadays), and (c) turn off the 'casual' audience that the Mario titles have been catering to for years by making them have to work for their game instead of just going down to the store and buying a disc or cartridge to pop into the system. there's also the risk of the game possibly being too large for their Wiiware size limits (who knows what they would want to put in such a title?). I can't see them doing it, to be honest, not with the kind of money a Mario release (not a puzzler, an actual platformer or adventure-based title) pulls in for them from stores.

Opera does have tabbed browsing, but remember that if we're talking about the Wii and DSi, Nintendo worked with Opera to create a special version for their consoles, so it's not really available by default. For tabbed browsing on the Wii, check out this Kotaku article (ha, the link provided there is down) check out the technical stuff here at my.opera.com. i don't know anything about tabbed browsing on the DSi yet, though.

read: they want any actual Mario games to be full-fledged console releases. makes sense, it's a flagship series after all.

also, anything Nintendo patents may or may not show up; all the patent means is that some other game designer can't come up from behind them and use the idea themselves without going through Nintendo or else they'd face some kind of fine or court action. that's all a patent really means, when you get down to it.
