No,because the Zelda in the Child Timeline is not the same Zelda in the Adult Timeline. The timeline split created 2 Links,2 Zeldas, and 2 Ganondorfs. I know,it's confusing isn't it? The timelines are a mess.

ah, i see what you mean. my bad. in that case, Zelda had Link under her power (along with the Ocarina in her hands) for an unspecified period of time during the ending. She also had powers as the seventh Sage and the bearer of the Triforce of Wisdom; we have no real idea of what she could or could not have done during the end sequence to prepare herself in the Child timeline to have Ganondorf executed.

also, there is a problem with the Child/Adult timelines theory -- Link initially disappears from the Child timeline after Ganondorf has stolen Zelda away from the castle, after she has thrown him the Ocarina of Time. with them meeting again, Link has not been thrown back into the original Child timeline at the end of the game if they show him meeting her in the garden again; if he has been put back in at the beginning of everything, he has been thrown into yet another timeline.

had he been returned to the original Child timeline, it would have to have been done at the time of his original disappearance to avoid a paradox, and at that point it would have been too late. Ganondorf would still be as powerful as he had been the first time around, and still as unstoppable. There is also the problem of the Deku Tree; it dies before Link goes to Hyrule, and though Link killed the monster inside there is no saving the Great Deku Tree. There are still going to be problems with Link's childhood thanks to Ganondorf's evil if he is sent back to the beginning, there will be no reward of 'regaining his lost years' or 'returning home' unless Adult Zelda does something drastic with the new timeline she creates for him.

Why would they execute Ganondorf unless Link told Zelda?

Zelda was the one who played the Ocarina and reset time. She could have left her own memories alone so that she could produce enough evidence to convince the King to have Ganondorf executed, thus 'fixing her mistakes' from the first time through (where she brought Link into the mess) and 'bringing peace to Hyrule' in the process.

No he dosen't lose his memories. How come Link could warn Zelda about Ganondorf at the very end of the game if he couldn't remember?

but we don't know that he was warning her about Ganondorf at that point. we don't really know what he was doing there at all. the game just stops there when their eyes meet.

@Zane: they were adults at that point in the ending, weren't they? 'Adult Link' was the one who defeated Ganondorf, not 'Child Link'...

@SuperSonic: whether or not she erased his memory is debatable, but when I first played through the game, that was the impression I had of what happened, and it has stuck with me ever since. And Zelda kissing link in prior games is beside the point. with him going back to a child after spending so much time as a man, she could've at least kissed him for his effort before sending him back to live with the fairies, y'know what i'm saying? :P

also, i know about the timeline mess. but still, with his memories gone (again, debatable, but you won't change my mind on it) it's like it never happened. i'm not saying it was all completely erased from the Zelda timeline, i'm talking about Link in OoT here.

technically, I don't think we're sure. Zelda tells him that 'it's time for me to make up for my mistakes' and 'when peace returns to Hyrule, it'll be time to say goodbye', and then she says 'go home, regain your lost time... home, where you are supposed to be'. we don't see Link again until he shows up in Zelda's garden, just like when they met for the first time.

personally, i think she either (a) wasn't able to fully erase his memory, leading him back to her garden to confront her, or (b) perhaps the Great Deku Tree had a hand in sending him to her. either way... aargh. :|

Chicken Brutus wrote:

And if you think THAT's a copout, I wonder what you must think of the end of Majora's Mask

Majora's Mask was different. It wasn't really meant to be part of the main LoZ story, so it can get away with more funny business. :) As for Twilight Princess, I was just sad that Link didn't go with Midna, that he was stuck with Zelda. Zelda behaved very passively in that game (compared to OoT, where she was directly helping Link as Sheik), and Midna was the better heroine of the two IMO. I hope there's some way for them to bring Midna back in another game -- another non-canon installment, perhaps?

The main flaw I see here is the concept that Nintendo can give us so many great games that we ask them to stop. That has never, EVER happened in the entire history of Nintendo, so what the heck makes her think it'll happen now?

the problem I had with that quote is that there's so many people out there both supporting and deriding almost every game. Galaxy, SSBB, Zelda, Wii Sports, Mario Kart... all have their fair share of people who like and do not like them. She's talking as if there were a way to please everyone with one single magical game, and there is no such way.

I'd sure like to see them try, though. Maybe I'd get lucky and be in the half of their consumer base that is thrilled with what they come out with. :3

Zelda just takes the Ocarina from him and sends him back to the beginning of it all! IIRC, he didn't even get a kiss out of the deal. Link did all that hard work, and he'll never know he actually did it. And if he ever remembers, no one will believe him. How freaking lame is that? I know the ending is all poignant and stuff, with the Sages having to remain separate from everyone, but there's so many 'it was all a dream' or 'great, you got through it, now let's send you back to the beginning and you'll never remember it' TV shows and movies and whatnot that it still feels like a cheap cop-out to me.

I love playing through OoT because there's so much going on -- the Gorons accept you as a brother, Princess Ruto wants to get in your pants, you steal a beautiful horse (and the heart of the milkmaid?), Saria kinda leaves you behind to become a Sage, you have a freaking adventure and a half with the Gerudo womens, you explore a creepy underground dungeon with phantom walls and floors, giant pointy fairies shriek with happiness when they see you coming, and yet in the end, with all the puzzles you figured out and the miniquests you completed to get hearts and abilities and stuff, it's like it never happened. what?!?? Way to dodge Link having to deal with/getting to enjoy his newfound awesomeness, even for a few minutes of an FMV sequence, LoZ writers. :|

aargh. :P what i meant was that he'll still kick if you tap him on-beat, whether he's got the ball or not. it's also easier to catch the ball as it's thrown back at you if you keep tapping the screen straight through and ignore whether you actually have the ball or not. that minigame really is a pain in the rear end.

I don't know what it is about Rhythm Heaven... some games (Love Lizards, the lab one where you're shaking the vials, the dolphin-jumping one, Built to Scale 1 and 2, the dancing frogs one... Frog Hop? and Munchy Monk 2...) I made it through in one shot and medaled it. but Lockstep 1 and 2, Crop Farmer, the ping-pong ones (something Rally), Space Soccer, and one or two others it took a lot of practice for me to medal/perfect. it's weird how far the gap is between them re: ease of play.

After all, they were really touting Moving Memo as a great piece of software at their speeches/addresses as seen on the internets, with silly demonstrations and all, so here's hoping they at least give us some new information if it's not released this month. :)

He still says 'kick kick kick high kick-toe, kick kick kick' when you tap him on-beat even if you don't have the ball, so the more in the habit you get tapping him on the beat, the better prepared you'll be to keep the ball in the air. Space Soccer is a royal pain in the butt, i'll give you that.

If you don't like Space Soccer, though, there's a remix on the bottom screen you're going to just love... hahaha you have to keep tapping as it switches games on you or else you'll drop the ball. at least the remixes keep you on your toes by mixing it up. :)

Lockstep was my freaking nemesis for a while, though. that one took me forever to get right, especially because as the voice makes the noise to start you off on the downbeat, it fades, and that fading (when it starts getting hectic) sounds a lot like the pickup for you to switch to the off-beat, and in that one if you don't switch right when you have to, you're dead in the water. ugh. :( Once you've got it down, though, it's pretty easy.
