re: the original topic: editing the EXIF data alone doesn't work. i think there's something on the DSi itself that tells it how many images should be present and what specifically to look for on the SD card... if you attempt to delete all the images from the SD card after backing them up onto your computer, for example, when you replace the SD card into your DSI it has a bunch of placeholders with 'image file corrupted' or whatever instead of just looking clear.

steps I tried myself that did not work:
(a) physically edited my image to the 640x480 pixel size and saved it at photoshop's jpeg compression level 2 (to get it down to the kb-size range of all the other images i've pulled from the DSi so far)
(b) copied it to my DSi's SD card
(c) renamed the file I was replacing, then changed the name of my edited file to that file's former name
(d) used an EXIF data editor (Exifer, a pretty good freeware Windows-based program) to copy the data from the file i was replacing to the edited file
(e) deleted the file i was replacing (it was already backed up to disk anyway) and then popped the SD card back into my DSi

that alone did not work. I don't know if the DSi actually looks at when a file was actually created or modified instead of just the EXIF data, or if it's got some kind of internal table that knows exactly how big each file should be (since I couldn't get it exactly that size, only in the general range -- 70.something kb instead of the 77.1 kb the original file was). i also noticed that, after copying the EXIF data between images, the edited image's thumbnail changed to that of the original file.

anyway, at this point i got bored and just snapped some DSi pics of some stuff I wanted to use as my default top-screen image. it's just easier at the moment until someone figures it all out, lol.

Open your Network Connections folder (may have to go through Network and Sharing Center to get to it).
Plug in your Wi-Fi connection dongle. You should see something else show up in addition to your actual internet connection.
Highlight the new thing that showed up and your actual internet connection. Right-click, and choose to bridge the two.

This is what fixed my connection a couple weeks ago when the same thing happened to me (running Windows Vista Home Premium on an HP laptop). I had been using it with no problems for months beforehand, and all of a sudden it decided to stop working until I bridged the connections. I checked the Nintendo FAQ and enabled every single port it said to have open through the router interface, and nothing seemed to be working until i tried bridging everything. I've had weird bridge-y problems with other laptops and internets before too, so i should've known to try that first, to be honest. :P

you can always wait until something DSi-only comes out that really catches your eye. If GBA games would be too big a loss for you, don't hurry to get a DSi just for the 1000 free Nintendo points -- the camera and music-playing features aren't worth half your game library.

if there's something about the DSi that you have to have, though, there's always eBay for a cheap replacement GBA/GBA SP. :)

from a developmental standpoint, though, TP is a GC game updated with controls for the Wii. i'm not arguing with your sales numbers or Nintendo's underlying strategy, i'm arguing with the 'Old Play Control' name. :3 If TP had awesome, natural-feeling Wii controls that had been present from the ground up, I wouldn't have commented.

I appreciate that you say that, but the way you have addressed Alex in your previous posts sounds very bossy and close to flaming. To your credit, you've been fairly cordial to everyone else so far.

agreeing with this too. to be honest, when this thread was first started, i thought it was a joke between the two of them with some for-fun 'arguments' being flung around, but SuperSonic1990, you seem to be taking all of this mighty seriously. if we can't have multiple joke threads about Adam and Chicken Brutus and the like, do we really need multiple serious NPC-debate threads? :/

This is even worse than the Mario Advance comparison. Twilight Princess was released on Wii first. The GC version is basically an "Old Play Control" edition. Get your facts straight.

I really, really hate to disagree with you (especially when i'm largely agreeing with your overall points, Adam), but even though TP was released for Wii first, the GC version was complete for a year before the Wii version was released... it was held back due to Nintendo wanting to have the Wii version for the Wii's upcoming release, and they held it back another month so the Wii version could get a nice head-start in sales. The Wii version of TP is very much an NPC game even though it's not officially named as such. If the GC version was truly an Old Play Control game, Nintendo would've adapted it from the Wii version, but that's not how it went down.
