theblackdragonAdmin

theblackdragon

12,402. Posted:

if you don't use the internet, there's local hobby shops or small stores that may sell video games (check your phone book), there's chain stores devoted to games (GameStop, Game Crazy, E/B, etc.), there's video rental or electronics stores that may have a section devoted to games (Best Buy, Circuit City, Blockbuster), and then there's big stores that sell all kinds of stuff and may have a limited game selection (Target, Wal-Mart, K-Mart, etc.). There's also Craigslist, where you may be able to find people in your town wanting to sell their used games, and then as slapshot82 recommended, flea markets can also be a place to pick up video games for fairly cheap (watch out for bootlegs, though).

Rare or limited edition games will usually be out in the dedicated game shops instead of places like Wal-Mart or Target, or maybe you'll see a big advertisement on TV that you can only get (insert game here) at (insert store here) and they'll release it with a huge fanfare and all that. Wide-release first-party games like Rhythm Heaven or New Super Mario Bros., you'll be able to find just about everywhere (and probably for a slightly lower price at Target or Wal-Mart as opposed to GameStop or similar). Dedicated game stores are more likely to take trade-ins than big stores, and they may be able to special-order something for you or put something on hold for you for a few hours until you're able to get down there and get it, while large stores may have a policy against that kind of thing. It all depends on what you're looking for, really.

i believe in a benevolent higher power. i believe that people have tried to define it and what it may or may not want from us as lesser beings, but in the end, they are only people... and as people are so very prone to putting words in one another's mouths and twisting things to their own ends, i do not subscribe to any organized religion. i'd rather take my chances with what's in my own heart and mind than what someone else is trying to persuade me to believe.
i believe in reincarnation, and I have since I was little.
i do not believe hell exists outside of our own minds or our own makings.
i believe that arguments over religion are pointless, so i'm glad this thread has been pretty civil so far. :)

your coins do not reset until two full Club Nintendo years (July 1st to June 30th) after they were added to your account. for example, if you registered a game and did a survey for it to earn coins back in March of this year, if you don't spend those coins on anything they would be gone from your account on July 1st of 2011.

when it comes to TV shows... i always loved Batman: The Animated Series, but the Spider-Man animated series that ran around the same time, I hated.

also, what Batman may not have in superpowers, he makes up for in martial arts training and other fighting skills. Between his endless gadgets/deus ex machinae, the millions of Bruce Wayne and access to Wayne Enterprises' R&D department, and his battle-honed fighting techniques, he may as well have superpowers.

i don't see why the Wii Shop or Nintendo Channel couldn't have demos for Wii games. i used to love trying stuff out for the PSX on those demo discs they'd give you at GameStop or packaged in with another game or whatever. I remember back when Metroid Prime 3 came out, there was that channel you could download from the Wii Shop for it, but I'm pretty sure they replaced that kind of video content with the Nintendo Channel.

also, you guys want to talk terrible DS demos? Wall-E had to have been the most boring demo on the face of the planet, next to that Mummy game that came out a while back. ugh.

re: the original topic: editing the EXIF data alone doesn't work. i think there's something on the DSi itself that tells it how many images should be present and what specifically to look for on the SD card... if you attempt to delete all the images from the SD card after backing them up onto your computer, for example, when you replace the SD card into your DSI it has a bunch of placeholders with 'image file corrupted' or whatever instead of just looking clear.

steps I tried myself that did not work:
(a) physically edited my image to the 640x480 pixel size and saved it at photoshop's jpeg compression level 2 (to get it down to the kb-size range of all the other images i've pulled from the DSi so far)
(b) copied it to my DSi's SD card
(c) renamed the file I was replacing, then changed the name of my edited file to that file's former name
(d) used an EXIF data editor (Exifer, a pretty good freeware Windows-based program) to copy the data from the file i was replacing to the edited file
(e) deleted the file i was replacing (it was already backed up to disk anyway) and then popped the SD card back into my DSi

that alone did not work. I don't know if the DSi actually looks at when a file was actually created or modified instead of just the EXIF data, or if it's got some kind of internal table that knows exactly how big each file should be (since I couldn't get it exactly that size, only in the general range -- 70.something kb instead of the 77.1 kb the original file was). i also noticed that, after copying the EXIF data between images, the edited image's thumbnail changed to that of the original file.

anyway, at this point i got bored and just snapped some DSi pics of some stuff I wanted to use as my default top-screen image. it's just easier at the moment until someone figures it all out, lol.

Open your Network Connections folder (may have to go through Network and Sharing Center to get to it).
Plug in your Wi-Fi connection dongle. You should see something else show up in addition to your actual internet connection.
Highlight the new thing that showed up and your actual internet connection. Right-click, and choose to bridge the two.

This is what fixed my connection a couple weeks ago when the same thing happened to me (running Windows Vista Home Premium on an HP laptop). I had been using it with no problems for months beforehand, and all of a sudden it decided to stop working until I bridged the connections. I checked the Nintendo FAQ and enabled every single port it said to have open through the router interface, and nothing seemed to be working until i tried bridging everything. I've had weird bridge-y problems with other laptops and internets before too, so i should've known to try that first, to be honest. :P
