@cryptonic: the controls for Phantom Hourglass killed my hands (my left hand, anyway, because i use the stylus with my right). holding the DS up for as long as it took to collect enough orbs and hearts and ship parts to power Link and the ship up... my poor knuckles were sore for nearly a week after I finished the game. I, too, would like to have the option of button controls for this one as opposed to it being (mostly) stylus-only.

also, somersaulting was a pain in the rear end. it's a good thing knowing how to do it wasn't required to finish the game, because i'd'a been screwed. :P

I think TWEWY is one of the best DS games out there, but if it's not your cup of tea, whatev'. :3

definitely seconding TWEWY RPG-wise, but if you decide to go rhythm game, you can probably find a copy of Elite Beat Agents for mad cheap now. :3 if you're in the mood for retro RPG action, though, there's always FFIII, FFIV, or Chrono Trigger.

@uriahheep: i dunno, Nintendo's all about playing together and wi-fi stuff, and it seems like an achievement/trophy system for games in a future Wii update/channel or their next console would be a good thing for them to include... i could see a 'show-off' channel for leaderboards or something, like the high scores they used to print in Nintendo Power back in the day (haven't been a subscriber for over a decade, don't know if they still do that or not). It's good that Microsoft is taking cues from Nintendo and trying to step up their game (direct competition benefits the end user in the long run), but Nintendo isn't so perfect that they can't possibly take cues from competitors.

i dunno, the train's just a stand-in for getting around by boat, it seems, and that worked all right for Phantom Hourglass. as long as there's still dungeons and puzzles to complete, and as long as it gets decent ratings, I'll at least give it a shot before dismissing it entirely. the non-train bits of the trailer looked interesting.

Also, there are exceptions to the metric packing rule you described, such as the half-liter, liter, 2 liter, and 3 liter bottles of beverages widely available. I can't really think of another exception right off hand, but I can never forget the bottle thing because those "16.9 fluid ounce" bottles are just so silly-looking. Fortunately, some companies actually started putting the metric measurement in the foreground for that size recently. Looks SO much better that way. :)

true. it's weird how that kinda evolved, isn't it, with just soda in the liter bottles? milk and juice are still sold in quarts and pints half-pints and gallons, for the most part. 2 and 3-liter bottles of soda are more popular than the 1-liter ones, though... it's so much easier to find 20 oz. bottles of soda in store coolers, and that's what you get out of vending machines, too. :3 personally, i don't care which is in the fore, so long as they keep the standard measurements on packaging someplace because that's what i'm most familiar with, and that's what all my cookbooks use.

@Stuffgamer1: TECHNICALLY, you're right. it was done that way more for international commerce than it was for the American consumer, though -- you'll note that those packages with the different markings on them say stuff like '1 pint (473 ml)' instead of '500 ml (1.057 pint)' or 'Net wt. 8 fl. oz./236 ml' instead of a round metric number and a decimaled amount of ounces.

also, there's always Google for a metric/American standard converter if you're frustrated. :3

anyway, i suppose my most prized gaming possessions would be the pile of doujinshi and game guides/artbooks for Genso Suikoden/GSII i brought back from Japan. I also got a big manga book version of the actual Suikoden tale in Japanese (seriously, the thing is huge), but that's only marginally related to gaming, because Outlaws of the Marsh is one of my favorite stories ever and it's nice to have more than the occasional woodcut print to go along with the story. :3
