@Lugas: here's the condensed not-so-wall-of-text version, then:

  • The problem could be on Nintendo's end, especially while trying to play online with a newly-released or very popular game, or if there has been a new Wii System update recently. Please try again later, when traffic may have slacked off.
  • You can only connect via Cable, DSL, or Fiber-Optic internet connections. Anything else (Satelite, Cellular, Dial-Up, etc.) will not work.
  • You may need to switch the channel setting on your router.
  • Some games may require certain settings to be changed on your router, including UDP and firewall settings. You'll need to search support.nintendo.com for the list (just look up your error code again and it'll be inline linked in the answer). You may also want to check out Nintendo's Tech Support Forums (also available via support.nintendo.com); other users might be having the same problem and a solution may have already come up in a thread there.

If you have tried all of the above and you are still encountering the same error for a period of at least a few hours, call 1-800-255-3700 between the hours of 6a and 7p Pacific Time, seven days a week for help from Nintendo.

I like that there's the medals, and then there's the perfects, so it's something to really work for if you're interested in doing really well at all the games instead of just passing them. if it was easier than it actually is, i don't think i would have liked it at all.

I'd like to see people like Aonuma (i thought Miyamoto was the 'mario guy'?) get more involved with the public side of Nintendo as well), but I can respect that speaking in front of crowds that are going to mercilessly dissect their every word and rubbing elbows with their rabid fanbase may not be everyone's cup of tea. :3 I like the 'Iwata Asks' interview-thingies because they bring some of the hidden people out and let them speak without really thrusting them into the fore as company representatives, if that makes any sense.

ah, i completely forgot about the GBA version! that is also a valid choice (provided you don't have a DSi :3), and it may be cheaper. You can also find FFV in that form, which hasn't been re-released for DS yet.

The PSX version had an opening FMV before the title screen, and I don't recall them changing anything else about it (unlike Chrono Trigger, where they added a couple of then-new FMV sequences in for important events) unless they added in an ending FMV, because I never finished IV in that incarnation. so far as I know, the FF re-releases for PSX were all very faithful to the original games (aside from a re-translated game script for better accuracy), just with the load times because it was in CD form instead of cartridges as before.

The DS one is also not different main-story-wise, though the graphics are updated and the cut scenes that would have been all 2D sprites and dialogue are all acted out by the new 3D sprites, complete with voice acting (which wasn't that bad, as i recall). I do believe the GBA version added a couple new dungeons (Mt. Ordeals and the Lunar Ruins?), and the DS remake added the augment system and a New Game+ option, but none of that is necessary for full enjoyment of the game (though the augment system makes things much nicer :3). I'm pretty sure they also re-translated everything yet again to be absolutely sure the plot flows as well as it possibly can and it's all as accurate as possible.

if you've got a DS, i'd go for the remake if you can stomach the 3D sprites (check out some google images or a gameplay video; as I understand it, the updated look isn't for everybody, lol).

the playstation version was included in Final Fantasy Chronicles, which I had no problems with as it was a faithful port of the original game, but everyone else I've discussed the PSX FF re-releases with has complained about the load times (which were common back then), so keep that in mind if that's what you decide to go for.

If you can get your hands on an original SNES cart (it would be 'Final Fantasy II' IIRC), more power to you, but for sheer accessibility (i love that I can take my DS anywhere as opposed to my butt being glued to my chair in front of a TV screen), the DS version is gonna be your best bet.

so in essence, 'waaaaaah, you're not agreeing with me?' come on, are we already back at that same tired argument?

Per your earlier example (and I don't understand why you want us to ignore it when you were the one who brought it up in the first place like it was the greatest idea ever or something), I feel that Wuhu island is a very generic setting and it is already established for Nintendo's Wii ___ series, which is pretty bland anyway. it's not like having Link visit the Mushroom Kingdom or Mario and Luigi riding a Lizalfos instead of a Yoshi, it sounds like it would be like having Link visit a public bath or Mario and Luigi playing golf or tennis -- in the latter case, for which there are already stand-alone releases, and I didn't buy them because, bottom line, they did not interest me at all.

Wuhu as a stage in Smash Brothers wouldn't be too far beyond them, considering they had a PictoChat stage, but Wuhu as the main setting for a title in a bigger established series (Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, etc.) is not something I would be interested in playing. It sounds like it would be boring as hell. Unless they've got plans for Wuhu to be the setting for that Nintendo-based KH-style RPG i've been dying for (and in that case they'd better be giving it a damn good story to make up for the lame setting), I am not interested.

Per what the article says, it sounds like exactly what I said before -- they're looking to set up Wuhu Island as the setting for future Wii ___ releases by introducing familiar landmarks that span different games, and they may also choose to license the Wuhu Island setting out to developers. on one hand, I gotta wonder who the hell would want to license a setting from Nintendo when they can make up their own for free, but on the other, it all sounds like they're just throwing out ideas that'll never happen IRL, which happens all the time, which has already been brought up someplace in this thread. no big deal.
