no, but i had an old handheld PC (a Phillips Velo 1) that began to release the magic blue smoke one night (i always used it with its AC adapter because it literally ate batteries liek whoa, and I noticed it was smoking from where the adapter plugged into the device... scary!), so I had to stop using it with the adapter, which meant I couldn't use it anymore for what I needed it for. :( I was sad.

You can either purchase a Nintendo Points card from your local store that sells game stuff, or you can buy them through the DSi Shop just like you can the Wii Shop with a credit card.

However ... I'm checking a copy of the book's chapters against the DS version's chapters .... it does seem like not all of the story is there. We had that problem when buying the book. It seems that not every copy of the book published has all the chapters. Something about when the original version was publish it was REALLY long, so the next time it was released, a whole lot of book was cut out. For years people thought those were the complete versions of the book. It wasn't until many years later that it was again released in it's entirety.
The paperback version is 1243 pages long, including the introduction, but not the footnotes. :-b Too much!! Sounds like he needed a good editor.

The unabridged copy I've got has 1462 pages... sounds like someone cut some material from your copy already. As for 'too much', bite your tongue! Every last detail of The Count of Monte Cristo is absolutely fabulous and deserves to be read. :D

you just go up to the register of the place you got it from -- say, Target or Wal-Mart -- and ask to reload the card. you should be able to use cash or debit (i don't know if they'd allow you to reload it via credit card) but the only place the gift cards would be useable is the store they're for, which is a drawback to doing that, kinda. :)

and yes, it should be a Reloadable Prepaid Card that you're going for. If you get a Gift Card on accident (a Visa Gift Card, for example), it won't have as much functionality as the reloadable prepaid card, which you can link to direct deposit, you can get cash from an ATM, and you can pay your bills with online if you like. be aware, though, that you must be at least 18 to purchase the reloadable prepaid card, a restriction which does not exist for the gift card, and there may also be slight fees involved in using the service. :3 read the fine print on the card's packaging to find out exactly what's up.

It's a program used to create animations and set them to sound... it really looks like a lot of fun. check out the Japanese upload site to see what others are already doing with the program. :)

The gigantic hype over it is mainly because Nintendo, in all its preview conferences and stuff for the DSi, used a demonstration of Flipnote Studio to show what DSi apps could do. Since they were featuring it so prominently, i know I thought it would be released either at launch or soon after the DSi launched... not so much, apparently. but we finally got the Summer '09 date at E3, so at least we won't be waiting 'til like next year or anything, lol. :)

Be careful -- I think what most people here are referring to as a 'debit card' may actually be a check-card (with the Visa or Mastercard logo; it can be run as a credit card for stores that take credit but not debit). Lots of people get them confused, because plain old debit cards are kinda rare nowadays, and you can run a check-card as debit, though it is not just a debit card per se.

As for your friend's idea, you can totally do that, but when it runs out of money, you should be able to reload it no problem. There's plenty of cards that are like that... just read the fine print on whichever one you pick up next time you go to Wal-Mart. You know you can usually reload gift cards people give you, too, right? :)

They think they're doing a good thing by editing in dates someone told them were absolutely, positively true, so the intentions are good... just because they haven't read up on policy yet doesn't make them 'dumb'. We all make mistakes as editors starting out, and that's okay -- provided we learn from our mistakes. :)

I'd like a little check or something next to a thread title that lets me know that I have already posted in that thread.

That way I can easily look at the threads I've commented in and see if there are any responses.

This would be nice. I have noticed on occasion that, while checking the 'updated topics' list, sometimes topics i'd posted in before and was waiting on a response in won't show up in the main list. then, two days later, i'll start thinking about it, so I'll check on a hunch and sure enough there's like one or two people who had responded to me in that thread and it had never shown up as 'updated', which is annoying, because i could've responded to them two days ago, y'know?

long story short, a 'check' or some little symbol (like y'all's nifty new shields :3) beside threads I've posted in if there are new replies would be a great feature, so I don't have to rely on the (faulty) 'updated' part of the forums.

of all the things to copy from another forum or website (PMs, post counts, forms to fill out explaining why you reported a comment to the mods, etc.), what brought you guys to this idea? I don't like the Kotaku 'star commenters' deal or the proposed voting system... I want to read what everyone has to say about news items or forum posts without having to click expand link after expand link, not just what the popular people or what the mods' buddies had to say (no offense, I know that's not how it would be, but what would a user first-time-visiting the site think?). I think it would be a turn-off to newbies if their posts consistently were downvoted into unreadability at first glance, and the 'star commenters' posts were allowed to shine on while full of errors or misconceptions they were attempting to rebut, which may indeed happen if a voting system is abused.

On the other hand, I like Sean Aaron's 'ignore list' idea. I'm on a couple of e-mail lists where I've got some people who consistently annoy the hell out of me, and their e-mails go straight into my spam folder. In the 'ignore list' case, the reader themselves has the option to set their filter(s), which is fine -- if they don't want to see something, it's just them not seeing it, and not everyone else. I don't like the idea of other people setting my filters, because their idea of a bad comment worthy of downvoting or greying into barely-readability may not be mine.
