Re: SNES With Mario AllStars or N64 Controller With Super Smash Bros. Game

theblackdragon

if the price wasn't a rip-off, I'd go for the SNES and All-Stars, especially if it was the All-Stars+World version. That's three (or four) games in one compared to just the original SSB, which you really need multiple players (and controllers) to have fun with.

Re: Short/small games to Dsi shop?

theblackdragon

@Arctic Friend:
(a) DK'94 was a GBC/ Super Game Boy enhanced game, so it wasn't really just monochrome
(b) the original MvsDK featured original levels with similar gameplay, making it more a spiritual sequel to DK'94 than an outright remake of it, and the other two games for the DS and DSi are direct sequels to the original MvsDK for the GBA.

edit: i can't actually remember whether the GBC actually took advantage of the SGB palettes, and I don't have the game anymore to test that, so i guess i can't say that about the GBC for sure, though the colors and border(s?) were definitely there on the SGB

Re: highly-rated games you didn't like

theblackdragon

Aquia received a 9 from NL, and I swear I can't stand it, it's so freaking boring.

As for games not (yet?) reviewed by NL, Kirby: Canvas Curse has plenty of great reviews online, and I did not like that game at all either -- the 'magic paintbrush' thing felt so gimmicky. And Yoshi's Island DS also failed to impress, which was sad -- I still have SMW2: Yoshi's Island for the SNES, and I love that. the addition of the babies did nothing for the game, and the gap between the DS screens was a pretty big blind spot. :/

Re: got a used game when I ordered a new one.

theblackdragon

i hope they at least give you the difference between used and new prices back. though i'd be happy to keep the genuine game, i wouldn't be happy for them to keep the difference when it was obviously used. :/

as for figuring out its authenticity, what game are we talking about? besides the fact that the pirates tend to go for more popular or rare OOP titles (Tetris DS, Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time) or games that are still in print and are still very popular (Mario Kart DS), the best way to figure out whether your game is genuine or not is probably going to be the manual... are the fonts on the warnings and stuff all of similar quality? any spelling errors? Mine had a 'Rapetitive Motion Injuries and Eyestrain' warning, lol... that (and other errors in the manual) was the biggest tip-off for me, but there are others, like the positioning of the stamped numbers on the back (if they're there, they should be horizontal), the quality and shape/positioning of the sticker on the front, and the quality of the cart overall in comparison with an actual DS cart.

Re: Super Mario 64 overrated?

@RJay: remember that back then, they were dealing with storage limitations... I do believe I read somewhere that they did in fact have more levels planned out for the game, but they just couldn't fit them all onto the cartridge, so they had to leave them out. for what it was, it was great.

Re: Do you still count deleted games as part of your collection?

theblackdragon

@BB Thrilla: you can't technically trade games with people on the wii (like if you played a VC game, didn't like it, and want to trade your rights to it to someone else in return for their rights to a game they purchased in the Wii Shop), but you can purchase games as gifts for people you have friended via Wii and trade that way (like how Adam sent me a DS game in return for me gifting him a VC game).

Re: Anyone want to see 'uncensored' VC releases?

theblackdragon

here's the article that shows some of the censored things, (hey, it's an informative article, and a lot of the edits were pretty silly IMO) including the SMRPG gesture (you kinda have to zoom in to see it, but I see why they changed it, lol). also, didn't they censor Croco calling Mario a 'persistent bugger' from SMRPG for its EU release? I'm pretty sure I read that somewhere.

Re: got a used game when I ordered a new one.

theblackdragon

depending on the game, if it's OOP and i know for a fact the copy i received is genuine, I'd be more likely to request the difference between the new and used prices to be credited back to me instead of sending it back and demanding a brand new MIB/sealed copy. as irken already mentioned, there's so many fakes out there in circulation that it can be hard to know if you're buying a genuine copy sometimes, i'd rather have a used genuine copy than a mint fake.
