The only problem now is that Miyamoto apparently got super-jealous and has refused to accept the apology cupcakes we baked for him. I don't know what to do to make it up to poor Shiggy. :(

Would you please expand on this? I was thinking of buying that game and would like to know your opinion, if you don't mind.

It got pretty grueling toward the end. The game kinda stacks things against you to the point where you absolutely have to merge yourself new demons and copy new skills before each major battle in order to stay ahead of the enemies... attempting to grind (like in other RPGs) won't get you very far, because you get crap for XP in battle if you go back in just to grind. I can't stand the merging thing; I'm the kind of person who got their team of Pokemon set up early on in R/B/Y and didn't change them out at all throughout the entire rest of the game (unless I had to for HM reasons or because I absolutely needed more of a certain type in order to win whatever battle), y'know? The idea of up and disposing of a demon I worked hard to set up in battle in order to create another one entirely made me feel kinda bad, but either way, it's like you do some story stuff, you merge demons/learn you some abilities by fighting a random battle or three, and then you fight the real battle. Repeat. Wipe hands on pants.

And it's not like the battles are over quickly, either... you're in a battle for a good fifteen minutes at least on average, I'd say (and I would bet I'm guessing on the low side of that scale, especially the farther in you get, and I'm also not taking do-overs into consideration). There's nothing terribly exciting about most of the battles in the game. Some have somewhat interesting terrain/obstacles to deal with, or objectives that change over the course of the battle depending on what happens, but when you're just trying to learn abilities in random battles and earn money to buy demons to merge, it's so boring... it kinda gets to the point where all you want to do is skip the battles just to get back to the story, which is honestly interesting.

If you're a huge strategy RPG fan, I'd say go for it (some people are really into that kind of thing I suppose :3), but I just remember I'd be in the middle of a battle and thinking of other things I could be doing that would've been more fun, and then I'd rush to get the battle over with just so I could shut the DSi off and do those other things. Seriously. I was that bored. D:

@Iz2009: that was kinda the point. if Nintendo were to finally reboot the series, I'd like them to go all-out to make it look, feel, and play differently than the same old, same old. How about Ganondorf in a giant mecha-like battle suit, commanding an army of robots and soldiers that have had their minds altered with brain implants infused with the 'spirit' of Ganon? or a battle against Dark Link where DL himself is actually an offshoot of Link's own mind (the embodiment of his own dark desires?) that must be defeated, as it appeared after Ganon(dorf) attempted to enlist Link to his side with promises of wealth, power, and immortal life as a part of his programming code (e.g. Link is infected and must battle himself lest he be taken over and essentially become Dark Link)? :3

I tried out what you sent me last night, GG, and while i was able to get through the first couple of levels easy enough, the jump from easy to hard happened so quickly... there was one level in particular that took try after try after try for me to finally get it (the one that starts off with one block on the right next to two rows of enemy ! blocks going up and down together with a heart toward the top, and then the other block is more toward the middle of the screen in an area with like nine wall-blocks spread out), and the previous levels had been so easy that it really caught me off guard. I kept running into the enemy blocks just by a hair, though if you made the character blocks 30% smaller as you say, that might've taken care of that problem.

also, I agree with someone else where they said that it's hard to make fine movements with the character blocks. is there any way to slow the movements down so that you don't go quite so far with one press of the button? there were a couple places with narrow gaps to get through that were hard to position the block for, because i'd think it would go through and then it would catch just on the corner of the block because it wasn't low enough to actually clear the wall.

I finally got bored enough to give up (i had like one heart left anyway :P) at the one with all the purple arrow blocks that move when you press the space bar (the first level with a key, I think). I know there's a way to get everything to happen the way I want it to in that level, but I kept ending up with a purple block either blocking one end of the path I needed to take or a different purple block blocking off the top entrance to the path I needed to take.

it has potential, GG, but I think it needs more of a gradual rise to the harder levels than the steep jump it has at the moment. :)

Screw our time, I would want a LoZ game set in the future, with computers, robots or mechanical fighting suits, hackers acting as Great Fairies to give you powerups, the Master Sword as some kind of No More Heroes-esque light-saber thing, and an all-pervasive Ganon entity infiltrating every piece of machinery on whatever planet Hyrule is on in order to fulfill his own vile desires for death and destruction.

Link would be some dumb high-school kid who receives his part of the Triforce by accident (intercepted a package, won a contest, stole it in an attempt to prove his bravery to his buddies, yadda-yadda) and ends up swept into the quest to stop Ganon and save the world as he knows it... Zelda would be the daughter of the king or president or whatever ruler this Hyrule has, of course, and her part of the Triforce would grant her vast knowledge (though not the power or ability to implement much of it, thus she has to sit back and let Link do all the work), while Ganon(dorf)'s part of the Triforce gives him the ability to directly interface with technology, and thus the Ganon entity/living virus/whatever comes to him and awakens his inner evil.

I know, I know, it sounds cliche as hell, but something like that would be a day-one purchase for me, while I continue to be on the fence about Spirit Tracks... :/

Bias is pretty much why I like Metacritic -- since that site collects reviews and information from multiple gaming sites and magazines, I can click one page and have everything laid out in front of me, including links to full reviews if I want to really see what they had to say instead of just relying on the numbers to do the talking. Since bias depends on the reviewer and the publication/website, it's nice to have an average, and the user reviews are nice too (that way actual gamers can refute a poor review or score if they feel it necessary).

@The Fox: i'm wanting to say Nintendo Power is no longer published by Nintendo, though you're right -- any review of a game by a related publication should really be taken with a grain of salt. :)
