i just picked up the Wii version... i'm on the third level, and i'm having fun, but the controls are taking a lot of getting used to. for some reason, it doesn't have the same intuitive feel as Twilight Princess and Okami did; the major thing is that i keep wanting to swing the remote to attack instead of pressing B like I'm supposed to.

the camera is kinda driving me up a wall. it has the tendency to zoom in for no apparent reason whenever I try to use a magic attack on enemies (fireball, tornado), completely throwing off my aim. it may be because the wiimote was pointed in a weird direction; that too will take practice to control.

another thing is that I do not like the way the game tells you almost every time you come to a point where you can do something (pick a flower, shake a tree or a door, search for magic shrines) that you can do so. seriously, let me do it on my own, will you? i'm not an idiot, and it's not like you can't get to the map of the controls from the menu. the game is nice in that at the end of each level it tells you how many things you collected (jizo statues, plants, magic scrolls, etc.), too, which is enough of a hint that you need to go back because you missed something without being told as soon as you near an area where you're supposed to use the shrine-finding magic that you should use that particular spell. i'm hoping this is just because it was the first couple levels and that it will eventually stop notifying me of this BS, because if there's a way to turn this stuff off in the 'options' menu, i'm not seeing it. :/ it's almost as bad as the 'You found a (insert color here) rupee! That's (insert number here) rupees!' message that popped up all the time in Twilight Princess, though that stopped the game entirely, while this is just images of buttons popping up on the screen and obstructing your view as you go. blarg.

annoyances aside, i like the story, I love the style of art they used (it's simple, but it works), and i'm having fun defeating cute little samurai dudes and having them poof back into forest creatures, and then possessing the creatures afterward. what can i say, I'm easily amused. :3 I also like that possessing an animal makes it easier for you to find hidden objects (the jizo statues and flowers). that helps a lot.

ah well. i only took a break because i needed to change the contrast on my TV for the third level, and then the phone rang. back to playing it. :3

edit: i wanted to add that when i got home, i was surprised to find that GameStop had actually sold me a sealed copy of Mini Ninjas. o_o

that said, this happens around the same time every year? sounds like it's just the flu or a cold. i get them every year when the weather changes too, and I'm also very prone to vertigo weeks before and after the major cold/flu symptoms show up/go away, which sucks hella. i can live with the normal symptoms of a cold or the flu, but the vertigo is what really puts me out of commission. :/

@warioswoods: i know what you mean re: online applications... back when i got my first real job almost a decade ago, it involved actually going to each place and bugging people for applications too, lol. nowadays, though, you'll get people at some places that will tell you when you ask for an application that you can fill it out online if you prefer, and places like Target and Wal-Mart actually have little computer kiosks set up near customer service that will allow you to fill out (surprise) the exact same application as you would be able to do from the convenience of your own home.

it's mostly the bigger companies that do it, I've found; small local shops and restaurants may still ask for you to come down and fill out an application. the good thing about it is that you can apply to places without having to bug someone for an application and without potentially giving the wrong impression to people who may be involved in the hiring process with the way you over or under-dress and your body language as you ask for the application. the bad thing about it is that it's incredibly impersonal, and most of the time they say they'll keep your application on file for 60 or 90 days so you're just a part of a continuous pool of potential hire-ees, and you won't know anything because they won't call you or e-mail you with word as to what's going on. you won't get that same on-the-spot 'just fill out the app and we'll hire you right now' feeling you may have wound up with in another place while talking with someone after having filled out an application in person.

another thing that's bad about the internet is that they may have actually hired people already for the positions they're still advertising, and it's just that no one's gotten around to changing that info on their website, so you just spent all that time filling out the app and taking their stupid 'you tend to feel angry days after a customer says something mean to you, agree or disagree?' tests for nothing.

I believe Stuffgamer1 currently works for a GameStop. :3

as for applying at one, if you're looking for a non-managerial position, there's no online application for it -- you'll have to either print out an app from their 'careers' section of their website or whatever and take it in to the store you want to apply at, or you can get an application directly from there and fill it out.

from an applying-for-jobs aspect, though... don't pin all your hopes on being hired at one place, fill out applications for as many places as you can. Since you don't have any previous work experience and it sounds like they'll have to work with you on your college schedule, don't bother shooting for the moon, either. Big-name places like Walgreens, CVS, Wal-Mart, Torrid/Hot Topic, Food Lion, K-Mart/Sears, Dominos, etc. are very likely to have online application forms you can fill out on their websites (GameStop was one of the exceptions, in fact, that required people applying for non-mangerial positions to turn in a paper application). Smaller, local places may advertise on catch-all job websites like Monster.com, CareerBuilder.com, and SnagAJob.com (i actually had more luck with SnagAJob.com than I did the other two; they tend to focus more on entry-level positions instead of professional positions requiring experience, degree(s), or training).

You may want to check your local Craigslist site, too, but beware -- that place is so full of scammers it's not even funny. You'll pick up on the hallmarks of a form posting after a while, though; the biggest hints are an offer of strangely high pay for a low-level job ($13 an hour for a secretarial position, for example), someone using what looks like their full name for a gmail address ('jordan_driggs at gmail.com' was one I bit at unknowingly when I first started looking up here in NC), and gross typos or garbled text at the bottom of an otherwise normal posting. send those guys an inquiry first before replying with your resume.

speaking of resumes, if you stick to entry-level positions, you won't need to bother with it, but depending on the job posting you may want to look into preparing yourself a resume just in case someone wants to see what you were doing while you were in high school. there are websites out there that will help you to build one if you like.

sorry 'bout the wall of text, lol, but i recently went through the hell of finding a new job myself, so it's still kinda fresh. welcome to the market, dude. :3

in all honesty, though, i do think a PM system would go a long way toward being able to successfully enforce any 'stay on topic within threads' rule. It would also help to cut down on the short threads directed at individuals in particular; people would be able to have their little tangent-based conversations in private, and that would be the end of having to wade through them on the forums proper.

New Judge Dredd movie in the works
'Judge Dredd' feature film update
Alex Garland completes Judge Dredd screenplay?
IMDB also has a page for it, but there's no public information up there at the moment because it seems to be currently slated for a 2012 release.

I must admit I'm merely a giant fan of the '95 movie and have never touched a Dredd comic in my life; I love Sylvester Stallone, I love bad movies, I love Rob Schneider, and the plot and setting were very interesting. I will be waiting to see what a more faithful adaptation of the comic will turn out like on the big screen. :3

@Magi: I'm with Firkraag on this one... Machu was not talking about drunk drivers at all, and you immediately jumped into talking about them as if he had somehow condoned that kind of behavior with his quoted statement? Of course those of us who drink responsibly will take offense to that. Considering all the people who are not under the influence of any substance (including alcohol) and still manage to get into accidents that wind up with people killed every day, I think it's safe to say that people can make horrible decisions and drive like wackos with or without alcohol to help them along. :/

@Zane: that's a good quote if it's actually in there, lol... alcohol kinda intensifies whatever you're going through at the moment emotionally, so if you've had a terrible day you may end up angry and argumentative or crying into your drink, and if it's been a great day you'll probably end up having a great time. :3

And why do you hate smoking so much? Because it kills people? If so, why be glad about a smoker's eventual death? Wait, I know -- it's because they chose to willingly do something you feel strongly against, and because they didn't make the same decisions you've made in your own life, you feel free to gloat over the idea that you will live longer than they. Right.

Seriously, we could all die tomorrow... and hey, newsflash, we're all going to die eventually. What's the point in being a jerk to your fellow man if they're not going out of their way to be a jerk to you?

I don't understand the hatred flying around in this topic and in the alcohol topic. If you want to drink or smoke, fine -- you've been educated about the dangers and you think you can handle it, no one here can possibly do anything years of school programs, after-school TV specials, restrictive laws, and Truth commercials haven't done already. change your mind later? good for you. If you don't want to drink or smoke, fine -- you won't have the experience of ever having done so, the end. change your mind later? good for you. People do different things with their lives. We're all our own individuals, and we all make our own decisions.

I guess what I'm trying to say is "Relax. You'll live longer."

ah, Rob Schneider. has he ever played a role in anything that wasn't (a) hilariously bad, (b) a comedy, or (c) both? :3

Wouldn't matter; he's a funny dude & I happen to like Rob Schneider! Also I loved the movie The Hot Chick; which has him in it! ;)

some of my favorite movies with him in it are Demolition Man (though he doesn't play a huge role in that one), Judge Dredd (so terrible it's awesome), and Down Periscope (hilaaaaarious movie anyway)... and of course every Adam Sandler movie he's ever been in (all of them?), hahaha. :3
