@Odnetnin: a friend of mine mentioned he'd gotten it, and he was nice enough to let me try it out. granted, it's not like i've had the benefit of a full week of playing it (it was just the one night he let me borrow it), but the control system wasn't that great (why not let us control Maxwell with the d-pad?), and i kept having problems trying to use/do something with small objects (sometimes he'd let me choose what i wanted to do, other times he'd just pick them up immediately). it was fun to try stuff out on the title screen just to see what it would do (lol, Cthulu is angry), but the actual levels (from what i played of them) were kinda boring IMO.

it's just not my cup of tea, i don't think, and I'm very glad I held off on getting it. I guess, like with Drawn to Life, it's one of those things that sounds great in print or looks fun on TV, but when you're actually playing it, you either love it or you hate it. :/

that would be so nice. or at least an option to turn the tutorials off or otherwise skip them. I don't know why they got away from that -- you can totally skip tutorials in SMRPG, which is awesome if you're like me and have played that game 963498573948750394875 times already and know half the dialogue by heart and how to complete every single side-quest and get every extra item and yadda-yadda, but i couldn't skip them in PiT. :(

edit: @Chicken_Brutus: hahaha, the main story was pretty lame for SPM... i'm glad the bosses were quirky enough to keep it going. :3

Illusion of Gaia is good (from what I remember of it; i seriously have not played it in yeeeeeeears).

FFV is my favorite Final Fantasy game (besides FFT, lol), but then, that's me. story-wise, FFIV is better, but it's still a fun little game. :3

I screwed up my Chrono Cross file something fierce (didn't know i could steal some really good items from some bosses and ended up under-leveled and barely protected right before a battle that kicked my butt every time I tried it, grr) and ended up not completing the game, I was so ticked... people say it's a great game, but that pretty much turned me off of it. They could've come up with something far better than that as the sequel to freaking Chrono Trigger... and that magic system totally ticked me off. ugh, it was so annoying.

Legend of Mana is so much fun! I really, really liked this game... the graphics and music are excellent, but as for gameplay, it's sorta hard to explain. it's an action-adventure RPG, and it plays like earlier titles in the Mana series, but you create the landscape yourself by placing certain artifacts you get by completing quests... the whole game kinda feels like a long string of side-quests that kinda mesh with one another to form one giant story featuring a couple different storylines. you can also collect items to craft/upgrade your weapons and armor (instead of just buying better armor every so often), and if you've got two save files on the same card, you can battle the main characters against one another if you like IIRC.

the game progresses depending on how you lay out your landscape and some decisions you make. you don't have to complete all the quests in order to finish the game, but you'd certainly want to try.... consult a FAQ to get the most out of this game from the get-go.

I do agree that he was incredibly weak as a prosecutor, and also, the whole 'i'll get revenge against you for my family member by besting you in court!' thing has already been done in the series, y'know? however, i think the bracelet-nervous-habit thing and the overall storyline that went down in AJ:AA (especially the last case, holy crap!) made up for him being such a weak prosecutor. The third game was so depressing, it was nice to have the fourth be so awesome after that mess. :3

I think it would've been more fun had Stuffwell and the nigh-endless stream of tutorials not been included. i know, i'm exaggerating, but it really felt like every time I turned around there was some new power to learn, and a cheesy tutorial session to go along with it. whatever happened to just letting people figure things out on their own? tell 'em the power is there and then let 'em go?

sorry, dude... the first game bored me to tears, and I will not be picking up the second. I didn't like the way it forced you to create certain new things every so often (instead of you being able to pick and choose what you did and did not want to create or customize yourself), because you'd end up spending an extra forty-five minutes getting everything to look juuuuuuust right just to get through a level. there was almost no 'hey lemme just finish this level real quick' because there would be no 'quick' about it thanks to the item designing. also, the way that big things couldn't really be customized other than color-wise (like you couldn't make the rocket or submarine or whatever else a giant squid instead; you couldn't change the template given to you) kinda ticked me off; that's what i had been looking forward to the most from the TV commercial(s). the story was cute, but it wasn't enough to make me want to play it through again, not with that level of frustration involved.

in other words, they would have to make some significant changes to the design system in order for me to even think about going near the next one, and even if they promised to change everything i hated about the first, i'd still wait for reviews on it before buying. i seem to have dodged a bullet with Scribblenauts, after all, and i do remember someone being all shocked that I hadn't pre-ordered it because it was apparently going to be so awesome... sadly, not so much IMO. :/

this is also something to consider. i didn't bother with video game demos back then (mainly because there would always be a crowd of kids waiting to play while their parents shopped elsewhere in the store), so if the demo was different than the release version, that may be why no one else remembers this 'captain' mode.

i did try a bite out of politeness (and just to say I had!) but never again will i eat that stuff. D:
