i forgot to mention that there's also the ever-present TV-show tie-in games around, like Hannah Montana, Spongebob Squarepants, High School Musical, and all that jazz. I know my little niece is all up into Hannah Montana and HSM at the moment and would love that kind of crap, no matter how cheesy I think it is personally, lol. :3

@hoodtrix: there's Mario Kart DS if she likes MKWii, and then there's all kinds of cute non-games she as a non-gaming second-grader might like -- Nintendogs, the entire Imagine series... and if you want to try to get her into some cute actual games, there's Kirby Superstar Ultra, The Legendary Starfy, Super Princess Peach, and other milder games available for her to try. If you'd like to try and get her into older platformers, too, the DS phat and lite are both equipped with the GBA slot, so that you can find the Super Mario Advance series for her to play as well. She may like those. :3

as for IMing, you may be thinking of PictoChat. PictoChat is only able to connect to other DS systems within its range (about 65 feet, according to Nintendo), and to be completely honest, it's the most useless part of the system. However, if she's wanting to play with her friends, she may get some fun out of it. Even if she can't read or write well yet, pictochat allows you to draw and doodle pictures and send those as 'messages' to the chat room at large (or, if she prefers, there's an on-screen keyboard that will allow her to hunt-and-peck for letters to type in with her stylus and make messages that way).

@Adam: it's pretty boring when a hurricane is just starting up, lol... after we moved to an actual house, we'd go out onto the back porch sometimes and watch, but the only reason i'd bother with actually stepping outside into a storm would be to take one of the dogs out, lol, or if the eye was passing over. after '98, I don't do tornadoes. :3 but I do do card games and other indoor activities.

I only remember actually evacuating for a hurricane twice... once was to a hotel, and the other was to my grandparents' house. evacuating was fun for us kids, lol. :3

I'm with The Fox on this one -- if Hogan can stay focused on TNA and not himself, it has awesome potential. I'm all for competition in the TV-wrestling-show biz, and WWE has been pretty stale/complacent lately. If TNA manages to shape up and starts showing itself as a serious threat, it's a win-win for all of us at home watching IMO.

That said, regarding Bischoff, the article i read said "As for Eric Bischoff, he will take an outsourced backstage role in helping TNA further their TV exposure through his Bischoff-Hervey Entertainment company, and is not a member of creative." That does reassure me somewhat, that he won't be involved on the creative side. Either way, guess I'll have to start catching TNA more often to see how it goes. :3

i watch G4 occasionally because they show Cops and sometimes Code Monkeys... also, Ninja Warrior if there's seriously nothing else on any other channel to watch. Sadly, too many of their 'Movies that Don't Suck' actually do suck, and their actual TV shows generally suck too. :/

Oh, and I watch Web Soup too... hahaha, it's The Soup, but for denizens of the intertubes. I love it. either way, i'm not one to get worked up over one TV channel showing crap i don't want to watch when there's hundreds of others out there also showing crap i don't want to watch. :3

I remember my first play-through of Suikoden II, I got very, very angry at more than a couple points in the story (i won't spoil them though :3). It's not that it was a bad story, it's that I greatly disagreed with some of the characters' choices in the game. I still do, but i've calmed down about it all since that first playthrough, lol. :3

it is indeed. I remember when I was little when there were hurricanes about to hit and we'd all pack up and go someplace (one time to a hotel, a couple of times to my grandparents' house), and then when we weren't living in a mobile home anymore, we were the ones hosting old friends when storms hit. When Charley went down, our entire neighborhood lost power for five days... I remember like our entire section of the neighborhood was sitting outside watching them fix the power poles. it was good times.

During hurricanes, i used to hunker down with a flashlight or a candle and a book, though when one of 'em hit (looking back, it might've been Erin, i'm not sure lol), I had Donkey Kong on the GB to keep me occupied when we evacuated (it's the only time I've ever beaten that game; i seriously had nothing better to do at my grandparents' house that time). also, marshmallows. roasting marshmallows over a candle is surprisingly fun. :3
