Re: newbie playing Wiiware games

theblackdragon

@tav: nope, you just need to be at System Menu 4.0 or later in order to access the SD Card Menu. Just click the little SD card icon while you're on the Wii Menu and the screen will shift to show you what games are available on the card for you to play. Click one, load it, and go.

as for 'given', I do hope you're saying it's been gifted to you via the Wii Shop. If you're saying a friend copied a game from their own Wii to your SD card and you're trying to play it on your own Wii, it won't work. WiiWare/VC games are locked to the Wii they were downloaded on and can't be shared in that manner. :3

Re: newbie playing Wiiware games

@tav: once you've downloaded the WiiWare games to your Wii or SD card, you don't have to stay connected to the internet in order to play them on your own. If you've bought games that offer DLC (My Life as a Darklord, for example), though, you'll need to be connected to the internet in order to purchase and download said DLC, but not to play the game once all your downloading is over.

also, if you're wanting to play against others over the internet (some wiiware games offer wi-fi connection play), you'll obviously need to keep your Wii connected, lol.

Books will be banned next. Those things are dangerous! I mean...if someone can take over an entire plane with a stupid box cutter, imagine what someone could do with all of the dangerous ideas inside a book!

they'll have to have professional readers now who'll scan your books for you. the screening process will now take a minimum of two days in order for the readers to fully digest what they've read and then make a ruling regarding whether or not it contains said 'dangerous ideas'. Thanks a lot for giving 'em the idea, Magi.

@dings: SMB2(US) wasn't where luigi's higher jump and farther slides when stopping came from -- that was SMB2(J). We did get the princess's affinity for floating, bob-ombs, shy guys, pokeys, and snifits, though. :3

as long as they don't ban books, who cares? there are other ways to divert yourself while on a plane.

Re: Laptop as DVD player?

theblackdragon

no, VGA won't output sound, but the laptop's own speakers (or the headphone jack) will still work. A pair of portable speakers would do the trick, or that second cable Raylax posted (it plugs from the headphone jack and gives you the red and white audio inputs for your TV). :3

Re: Laptop as DVD player?

that's a 15-pin VGA port, it looks like -- something like this would be what you need. also, that 'square one to the right' looks like a port for a built-in modem, lol, and an ethernet port should be to the right of that if i'm reading the symbols correctly. no video from there :3

Re: Why did you choose Wii over PS3/360?

theblackdragon

(a) game selection (super paper mario and twilight princess were some of the first couple games we picked up)
(b) price
(c) virtual console
(d) novelty factor (wiimote/nunchuk was really interesting)

Re: How to put music on the dsi

theblackdragon

Page 44 of your DSi manual says:

The following file formats can be played with Nintendo DSi Sound:
AAC files with .m4a, .mp4, or .3gp filename extensions
Bitrate: 16kbps - 320kbps
Sampling rate: 32kHz - 48kHz

Make absolutely sure your files were saved under one of those three extensions and converted into one of the acceptable bit/sampling rates and try again. You didn't mention which program you're using to convert your files, but there's a tutorial for doing it in iTunes in this post here.
