thatguyEZ commented on Soapbox: If Nintendo Took On Virtual Reality, ...:

Nintendo needs to get their ducks in a row before they start working with VR. They need to concentrate on making NX consumer friendly and the best it can be. Sure they can make it VR compatible, but they should in no way bundle it with the system. They can let Sony test the waters before releasing their own headset.

Nintendo won't be the one to bring VR to the mainstream though, if anyone that'll be Sony. This is simply due to the number of PS4s in homes and the fact that all of those systems will be able to run PSVR. Oculus will be on the cutting edge of VR as PC usually is, while PSVR will be for the mass market as consoles usually are. Adding to this is the number of games being built with PS VR(or VR in general) in mind: Driveclub, Until Dawn, No Man's Sky, Ace Combat 7, Gran Turismo Sport, Robinson: The Journey, etc. It's looking like games won't be an issue for VR and the deciding factor will be price point. The most likely scenario is that, at least with PSVR, Sony will sell the systems at a loss and make the money back on software in an attempt to lay the groundwork for the user base. Xbox is really screwed for the rest of this generation, as the Oculus features for the system are a total joke. So it's really coming down to Sony to bring people into VR.

I'd love to see a VR headset from Nintendo though. I'd imagine they'd do a lot of fun stuff with the tech. But Nintendo really needs to get its act together before this is even viable.

"Expanding 'kids and female demographics.' I'm not sure what this means, tons of kids and girls/women play the 3DS. I'm really not sure there's anything the could do to expand those demographics as most games are already appealing to those groups.

I'll wait and see what these 'strong' titles are, as I've learned not to get my hopes up when it comes to Nintendo.

@Xenocity People who identify solely as American Indian or Alaska Native make up approximately 0.97% of the US population, so if we want to accurately depict the 'diversity of players' there will be next to no American Indian characters in games. It seems people like you only care about the color of ones skin and not the content of their character, and that's pretty sick, not to mention racist.

@joedick What is 'you haven't been through what they have' supposed to mean? Have any of the descendants of American Indians alive today had to walk the trail of tears? No? So what are you talking about? American Indians are treated like any other person in modern day America. Discrimination in the workplace and the judicial system is illegal, and if they encounter racist people that's a problem with the individual racist and there is really nothing society can do about that. So why can't I tell someone whose offended to get over it? Are you of the opinion that they aren't strong enough to get over it on their own?

This is a stupid change and people who would be offended by this have bigger problems than a job class in a video game. And while this may not be Nintendo directly, this is a perfect example of why I won't be getting a NX until Nintendo stops carving up and mutilating games before they get here.

I've already got Zero Escape on Vita, but I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who hasn't tried it yet. I might pick up Fantasy Life, and that price is really making it a tough choice.

These discounts are really quite sad though. Most of these only have a few dollars off and Nintendo could definitely do better than 30%. I mean it's not like Nintendo's broke or anything. I appreciate the effort, but come on Nintendo. I mean, I picked up Sleeping Dogs Definitive Edition for $10 last night. Every other system has much better sales than Nintendo does and much more frequently, I'm not sure why it's so hard or Ninty to get on par with them. They really need to if they want more people shopping on the eshop.

@nintendomasterr Not only is it the normal thing to do among localization companies, but people actually come out and try to defend the concept of getting an objectively inferior product(less features). Its like the think the world revolves around them, and they're fine with train wrecks like this games localization. Until the day comes when something they like gets cut an they be crying foul from the rooftops.

@TheAceofMystery I can agree with the sentiment, though I would tell Nintendo to suck it up. After all there's not much they'd be able to do other than not buy the game, and I'm sure as many people won't be buying it now after the train wreck this localization process has been.

@AlexSora89 Exactly. It's really kind of worrying seeing how many people have trouble discerning fantasy from reality in regards to video games.

@BulbasaurusRex ...it's not real life though, so not sure what the point of bringing up the face punching thing is. But I'm not really sure I see how this is crossing a line, I suppose if you're someone of Puritan where all sexual contact is crossing the line then sure. This is exactly the problem, at least in America, right now. We've gone from the right wanting to censor games to protect the kids, to the left wanting to censor games to protect people's feelings. If you're okay with momma Nintendo picking and choosing what they think you're ready to see that's fine, but most people are responsible enough to choose for themselves. This is also why Nintendo is considered to be such a joke by so many people in today's industry, it really seems like the company just doesn't know what it's doing.

Yeah, after the train wreck that the localization of this game has been, I'm just going to pass on it altogether. If anything I'll be importing a copy from JP, but I'm not a big fan of being treated like a child by mommy Nintendo.

There will always be a place for local multiplayer, though it's not a prevalent as it once was simply due to lifestyle changes and changes in technology. Nintendo needs to get better with online MP but that doesn't mean they have to ditch local. Hopefully we really start to see the online communities for Nintendo's games blossom when the NX comes out.

@CB85 Well having a gay guy and a lesbian is a pretty accurate representation of reality. Only 3.8% of adults in America identify as gay/lesbian/bisexual so it's be kind of weird if half, or even a fourth, of the characters were gay. I'm not sure why people insist of shoe horning characters into games for 'diversity.' Why are we putting so much emphasis on what someone is born as, and can't change, instead of the individual and their ideas and personality. That's extremely backwards if you ask me.

On the topic of this article, I couldn't care less whether the characters are gay as long as they're well written characters. It's really annoying that Nintendo think us in the west can't handle a gag drugging scene. Though considering the absolute wreck the games press is in and puritans like Sarkeesian on the scene I can certainly see why they think we're all a bunch of puritans.

@TingLz And Nintendo has joined those companies with that $100 Fire Emblem. If Nintendo wants to keep their digital prices at a ludicrous level because they perceive they have value that's fine, but it means less and less people will be tempted to go to the eshop and more and more people will be buying used. It really isn't doing itself any favors.

In regards to the sale I might pick up Freedom Planet but everything else I either have or the sale price isn't enough to tempt me. Here's hoping next week won't be this bad.

When The VR market starts to really blossom I'm sure Nintendo will be thinking about putting a set out there. As far as I'm concerned VR is where gaming is headed and Nintendo will have to out a set out there. I don't think VR will replace the current format of having the screen several feet in front of your face but it will be giving it a run for its money.

@japongt I agree I mean it's a gorgeous 3DS. I was just waiting specifically for a FE one though and it literally makes no sense for Nintendo to have waited until now to announce this thing. And that's not even taking into account how annoying it is that this game will cost so much.

Jesus, why did it take so long for Nintendo to announce this 3DS?! I was waiting to see if they announced one before I upgraded to the New 3DS so I could get one. But I figured if they hadn't announced it by Christmas there wouldn't be one so I just got a Hyrule Gold version. I mean announcing this literally a month before release is a joke. It really seems like Nintendo doesn't know what they're doing anymore and it's driving me up a wall. At this point they're just as bad as EA or Ubisoft. They are charging you an arm and a leg to get the 'full experience' after all.

@Mario-Man-Child I couldn't disagree more about the negativity, but I suppose our standards for 'too much' negativity are simply different. As customers we have every right in the world to criticize a company's performance and Nintendo isn't exempt from that. No one has asked them to release them all at once but they've had nine years at this point the the VC is still missing some too games from all the supported platforms. If you're willing to accept sub par support from Nintendo that's fine, but that doesn't mean everyone else will.

thatguyEZ commented on Oculus Founder Palmer Luckey Believes Virtual ...:

@Dr_Lugae PlayStation VR doesn't require the move controllers though. They're pitching it like they enhance the experience(why wouldn't they) but they're not required. And there's no point trying to capture the Wii's audience, they don't care about video games and most never will. For a majority of Wii owners video games are just a little distraction when they drunk with theirs friends and/or family and have nothing to do. And not having a killer app is hardly a death sentence. While I would agree that having a game that really shows off the tech would be best, but the PS4 still doesn't have a killer app by most people's standards and it's well on its way to the 50 million mark. And I'm not really seeing how the PSVR requires the black box is a black mark against the system. And as for the price, new tech is always expensive and it's always enthusiasts who are the first adopters. But that price inevitably drops and more and more people begin to purchase whatever the tech is. HD TVs are a perfect illustration of this. It would be nice if Oculus was cheaper, but it's hardly surprising and once again hardly a death sentence. Using a controller is hardly rocket science as well, most people aren't looking at the thing when playing games. Saying that not being able to see the controller is some major black mark against the tech is kind of reaching. And as an extension, you can use the move controllers or whatever Oculus and Valve are making, but they aren't required. So the controls will be as intuitive as they've always been.

I can understand VR not being for everyone, but the reasons you have are reaching pretty hard.

@AVahne And then when Nintendo releases a headset most of those same users will be singing praises from the rooftops of how innovative Nintendo is.

They really should have been doing this throughout the Wii U's lifespan. One of the most damaging factors to the Wii U was the long droughts in between big releases. Without third party support this would have been a great plan to keep fans happy in between the release of new games.

thatguyEZ commented on NX Won't Be The Next Version Of Wii Or Wii U, ...:

@JaxonH Well, I personally do like the game pad, I think its a wonderful little gadget (though I wish it had a better screen). But I think it was a mistake for Nintendo to make them mandatory and ship them with every console. I understand the logic behind that decision, it's the same reason Microsoft shipping every Xbox One with a Kinect. If Nintendo wants to innovate that's fine with me, but it shouldn't be a mandatory expense on the consumers part. I can understand that people want Nintendo to do their own thing but at the end of the day Nintendo is a business and is out to make money. The mainstream have flocked to the PS4 and there's a reason for it, it's getting most, if not all, of the third party games whilst also getting some great exclusives like Bloodborne, Persona 5, Disgaea 5, Uncharted, Horizon, Gravity Rush 2, Horizon, Gran Turismo, Nier 2, I could go on. Nintendo needs to make a system with better hardware than what's in the other two, ships it with a normal controller (unless its a hybrid, then I suppose a tablet kind of thing is integral.), begs third party publishers to come back, brings the heat with their IPs, and gets their online infrastructure up to date. I know this has been said a million times before, but if I could have a system where I have Fire Emblem and Etrian Odyssey next to Rainbow Six Siege or whatever those companies are dropping at the time, I would be sold and I'm sure plenty of others would be as well. And I understand the argument that Nintendo should work towards making a console that people buy to sit next to their PC, PS4, Xbox, but that really didn't seem to work last gen.

I'm completely open to new ideas and different ways to play games. As I said I'm a big fan on the gamepad and think it was a great idea, but it also helped cripple the Wii U. Nintendo isn't in financial trouble now, but they can't keep throwing ideas at a wall until something sticks. I grew up with Nintendo and I would love to continue to enjoy the games they make possible until I'm a withered old man. I really feel that if the NX bombs, Nintendo is going to be in serious trouble and that's the last thing I want to see. I'm hard on them because I love the products they put out and feel it would be a detriment to the entire industry if they went the way of Sega.

Edit: And Nintendo really can't survive on an selling products to ~11 million people. Developing consoles and games is simply too expensive and the company would have to seriously downsize or go third party to be able to support that kind of business model. As with any other company, Nintendo wants all the money it can get. It would be much less expensive to just develop a console that can actually compete with the other two and try and take a chunk out the others install base. Regardless the company can't survive in its current state by investing millions in developing consoles and games only to see them bomb like the Wii U.

People seem to be really upset about someone insinuating that their precious Wii U might be a bit underpowered at this point. Though I do hope Nintendo sees these kinds of comments from devs and decide to make the NX easier to port to.

"It will be something unique and different." I really don't like the sound of that, another console with another silly gimmick will be hard to successfully pull off. I suppose we'll just have to wait and see.

thatguyEZ commented on Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millennium Girl is ...:

@leo13 No problem, it really just depends on how you want to play it. In story mode you are given specific classes for defined characters who you can later switch to a different class. While classic mode you start out picking your own party from a selection of like 15ish classes and can choose their character models and names and more or less role play. In story your given a narrative for why you're exploring the labyrinth and progressing through it and in classic you really just kind of make up you're own. But when I play the Untold games I'll play through the story mode first relatively quickly then go back and play classic and that's where I spend the majority of my play time. It's not really the same as FE though, as there is no perma death. But you can play classic on easy difficulty of you want or hard and the same goes for the story mode. Though I usually play the story mode on a lighter difficulty and classic on one of the harder ones.

I hope that helped answer your questions. :3

Ohh Nintendo, why do you make me second guess my purchasing of your products. Treating variable bust sizes as something dirty and should be eliminated is dumb and frankly wreaks of sexism. This only makes me less inclined to pick up Nontendo products in the future. This is why Nintendo is the laughing stock of the gaming community.

And I love all the red jarring a being thrown around about 'pervy boys only wanted fap material.' Firstly, what someone does with their character is none of Nintendo's business and secondly the issue is the needless censorship of a product because of a handful of peoples' aversion to the female body.

@leo13 Sure, it'd certainly be a good place to start the series as its a remake of the first with an added story mode. Though it usually takes me ~130ish hours to knock out an EO title, but you could certainly get done with it much quicker if you went through the story on picnic difficulty.

Not sure why this was framed as something negative, it was a standard 'don't say too much' answer from a corporation. The question wasn't even specifically about NX. I'm sure they will if the system sells, and if it doesn't then they won't. It's up to Nintendo to make the former happen.

@smashbrolink I do agree, and there are certainly people out there like that, though I'm not one. Quite frankly I'm a bit tired of the amount of indies Sony is pushing out monthly for the PS+ IGC.

I also agree that third party studios didn't do anyone any favors by pushing garbage ports onto the Wii U. But the NX will need support from those studios if it wants to have a shot at appealing to the broader gaming community. Though if the NX is more powerful than the PS4/Xbone half the battle will already have been won.

@gatorboi352 "Third-party ports won't make or break the NX, and exclusives will be far more important." Is what I was taking issue with. If the NX is unable to bring third party studios back around it will be just as dead as the Wii U. Though after re reading the section it seems our views were more or less in the same vein.

thatguyEZ

thatguyEZ commented on Talking Point: Five Key Challenges Nintendo Fa...:

I couldn't disagree more about the third party section. For people who can only invest in one console, the one with 6-12 month gaps in between major games won't be in the running. Sure loyal fans might bite that bullet, but mainstream buyers who feel nothing for Nintendo won't. The rest of the article I can see where your coming from, and while I don't agree with it all, I certainly see them as valid points to be made.

Hopefully Ninty is able to get it right this time around.
