I read that the buy two get one deal in Japan worked even if they were upgrades...so it SHOULD be a mere $3 for all three for me.

Stuffgamer1 commented on Denis Dyack: X-Men Destiny Accusations Affecti...:
I'll admit, the reputation that article gave the man did leap readily to my mind when I heard of the crowdfunding project. That's not to say that I necessarily believed all of it...to be honest, I don't know WHAT I believed...but I at the very least recognized that it would be a stumbling block for this project at large one way or another.
I appreciate their taking the time to make this video, and I think the gesture should not be ignored. Their arguments are reasonable, I get no sense that they're trying to deceive...and if I had an income, it would be enough to push me to pitch in on the project. I really hope they succeed.

Stuffgamer1 commented on Miiverse: Super Metroid - Too Taxing For Today...:
I guess this explains why so many people were impressed when I finished game 100% on Wednesday. Post a screenshot, people are all like "no way!" and I'm like "way!"
Really though, to a very real extent, I have no room to talk. I grew up using NPower and player's guides while gaming...still do, often. And I admit...I did for this run of Super Metroid also. That said, I feel that some of the complaints on Miiverse are ridiculous, like the people who get stuck just after that one-way gate in Brinstar. I use the guide to help find the obscurely hidden items, not to tell me how to get past obvious barriers. I also wall-jump like a boss, so that's fun.

Stuffgamer1 commented on Animal Crossing: New Leaf Localizers Talk Shop:
Man, I was getting so annoyed that the game took so long to release here after Japan...but I guess if they really change THAT much in localization, it might make sense...

Stuffgamer1 commented on Nintendo Download: 16th May (North America):
I downloaded and played all the way through Super Metroid yesterday, so yeah...
That reduced price promo for Super Mario Bros. 2 is kinda weird...I wonder if we'll see any more like it in the future, perhaps on games I want to get on VC.

Stuffgamer1 commented on Eternal Darkness Will "Definitely" Be Discusse...:
@Dpishiere: I'm not usually interested in horror either, but I like Eternal Darkness...I think some of the reasons I like it are the same reasons other people don't, mainly how easy the game is when you know what you're doing with the spell system.
#7
Stuffgamer1 commented on Eternal Darkness Will "Definitely" Be Discusse...:
Remember, everybody: This crowdfunding project ISN'T ON KICKSTARTER. They're handling it directly, and they've even stated that they may choose to keep whatever money they DO raise toward their goal even if they don't reach the full $1.5 million.
I'd like to see the original on the Wii U eShop, sure...but I think the 20-pound price suggested above is excessive. Microsoft was charging $15 for original Xbox game downloads, and PS2 Classics are only $10. I don't think Nintendo will go for 10 when that's most likely going to be the N64 price again (when/if they get around to that), but I could see $15...it'd be complained about by many, but it'd sell. $20, though...that's really pushing it.

That's not the Mario game I wanted announced! Picross, dangit! PICROSS!

@ yoshisaredragon: Please do not ignore the all-important emoticon following my statement, wherein a wink indicates tongue-in-cheek humor. True, I see no draw for that kind of collection drive, and I am sometimes negatively impacted by it when all I want to do is get my hands on a game to PLAY it, but I know there can be upsides to it...quite crafty and profitable ones at that.
#10
Stuffgamer1 commented on Weirdness: Own The Manual To ClayFighter Sculp...:
@DeathCode: Idiot...collector...what's the diff?
Seriously though, this is nuts. I like manuals and all, but not THAT much. Of course, I appreciate games for functionality, not rarity. The proudest games in my collection are...if you'll forgive the pun...rarely rare at all...except for EarthBound, and even THAT is easy to come by if you're willing to pay out the butt (and why would you with the VC release upcoming?). I'm just weird that way.

Stuffgamer1 commented on Nintendo Download: 9th May 2013 (North America):
Another week without Mario's Super Picross. Is everybody remember to Miiverse about it? Based on the number of requests I've seen on there...no. Get with it, guys! It's our best and probably only hope...

Stuffgamer1 commented on Club Nintendo Refunds Coins To Wii U Owners Wh...:
When I saw Super Metroid was on offer, I immediately thought it was stupid timing because of the upcoming Wii U promotion. Nintendo should've coordinated things better in the first place. This is better than nothing though, I suppose.

Stuffgamer1 commented on Review: Mario's Super Picross (Wii U eShop / S...:
Everybody who wants the game in North America...take to Miiverse! Probably the Japanese Miiverse page for the game would work better than the European one...at least, I suspect so. If nothing else, the relative rarity of English posts will make us stand out more.
#15
Stuffgamer1 commented on Nintendo Download: 9th May 2013 (Europe):
@G3ry: If they aren't going to downloading anything, nothing is the only true answer. It's not a good idea to SAY you'll download something when you won't...I'd rather this was an accurate portrayal of what a terrible job Nintendo is doing of releasing games their fans care about.
In case anybody was wondering, Solomon's Key and Xevious are both listed for a May 9th release on Nintendo.com...so it looks like North America is going to get the same two games again this week. That wouldn't bother me so much if we weren't already a game behind...I WANT MARIO'S SUPER PICROSS, DANG IT!

Stuffgamer1 commented on Super Ubi Land Is Set For A Name Change:
Agreed with those who said it was confusing. Sometimes, brand-name concerns like this are unfounded...but not this time. This one really does need changing.

Stuffgamer1 commented on Capcom Bringing More SNES Goodness To The Wii ...:
@brooks83: Nah, I'm pretty sure they'll at LEAST finish the main Mega Man series. That'll be three more games right there (two NES, one SNES).
This is great and all, but honestly, Capcom didn't play that big a role in my childhood (although I do like Breath of Fire...but I have GBA versions, so...yeah), so I really don't care about most of their releases. As I've said recently...I find it difficult to care about most stuff when I really just want more Squenix support!
#18
Stuffgamer1 commented on Review: Mega Man (Wii U eShop / NES):
@ajcismo: Didn't read the full review, did you? He mentioned that trick in it...which I thought was funny. Anybody who HASN'T played the game has now had the difficulty "ruined." Although as far as I'm concerned, the yellow demon boss is IMPOSSIBLE without it.
@Philip_J_Reed: Sure, you can argue that it's "gentle," but you have to remember that not everybody will view insults the same way. True, "lily-livered" is not commonly used outside of jokes, but that doesn't mean it's not the least bit demeaning. Personally, I would herald the availability of Restore Points as a massive selling point for the game, just because its difficulty is so unfair. I don't believe in games being too easy...just fair. I'm pretty darned good at Demon's Souls, for example...hard but fair. A lot of NES games failed miserably at that balance, so Restore Points are a good way to fix the problem.
#19
Stuffgamer1 commented on Review: Mega Man (Wii U eShop / NES):
Couldn't you mention save states WITHOUT insulting those who find it necessary to use them? To be fair, I HAVE beaten this game without them before...but it's far too much a pain in the butt to be very much fun. IMO, save states can do a LOT to aid in the fun aspect of a game without being overly cheap...of course, it does depend somewhat on how you use them. Like how I save between matches in Punch-Out!!...I don't have to redo fights I've already won just because I haven't figured out the new guy yet. It's just a lot more fair and fun that way.

Stuffgamer1 commented on Capcom Announces Two More Wii U Virtual Consol...:
@DarkEdi: May as well give up on that right now...I find it EXTREMELY unlikely that the Wii VC is going to get any continued support for systems that are available on Wii U VC. There's a reason Wii's only been getting Neo Geo games this year...
#21
Stuffgamer1 commented on Capcom Announces Two More Wii U Virtual Consol...:
@JogurtTheYogurt: To be honest, I have no problem with well-done remakes...that is, when THEY get released. I would PREFER a new remake of Dragon Quest 1-3 instead of getting the NES or GBC versions on VC. But the problem is when you get NEITHER. Worse yet are classics like SoulBlazer, Illusion of Gaia, Terranigma, etc. that haven't seen the light of day since their original launch ANYWHERE. Even the Square side is missing stuff like Secret of Evermore...shameful! You'd think with the kind of financial trouble Squenix has been in lately, they'd want to get some money any way they could. This has GOT to be an easy source...
EDIT: While search for any info related to Squenix on VC I could find (no luck, really), I stumbled across the first quote you gave...it's from 2007, dude. Don't you think MAYBE it's a little out of date by now? I mean, that was before they even had Final Fantasy 1 and "2" on VC. Clearly they changed their minds to SOME extent.

Stuffgamer1 commented on Capcom Announces Two More Wii U Virtual Consol...:

Okay, Capcom and...what? One Namco title out thus far. Pretty lame, considering. Lemme know when Squenix get their butts in gear and release all those classic Enix games they SKIPPED on Wii VC, mmkay?

Stuffgamer1 commented on Trio Of Kirby Games Hitting Japanese Wii U Vir...:
@Pikminsi: But two out of three of these games aren't even ON that collection!
I love Star Stacker on Game Boy, and I'd love to play the SNES version...but I expect even if we COULD get them to release it here, it would lack English...and the game has Kirby's Avalanche-style cutscenes to boot. sigh

Stuffgamer1 commented on Angry Video Game Nerd Adventures Is Coming To ...:
@allav866: I know WHY it's still in there, from a technical standpoint. But the fact remains that Nintendo allowed them to release it in that state. Probably wouldn't have been too hard to edit if it had really been necessary.

Stuffgamer1 commented on Talking Point: It's Time for a 3DS Storage Upg...:
I've been using an 8gig card since launch...my brother and I split a cheap 2-pack from Costco. Since we prefer to have retail games in retail format, this storage capacity has been FAR more than enough, and I'm not really looking to upgrade. That said, it would be good for Nintendo to increase the pack-in size...but they probably won't because it costs even a little bit more to them and they don't seem to be very good at the whole cost-to-reward dynamic.
#26
Stuffgamer1 commented on Angry Video Game Nerd Adventures Is Coming To ...:
@SirQuincealot: If it can release on PC no problem, it's highly unlikely that a PSN release would be undoable. You'd be surprised what Nintendo references can sneak in on other platforms, really...the 360 version of Banjo-Kazooie didn't even edit the Game Boy out of the file select screen.

Stuffgamer1 commented on A.N.N.E May Appear On Wii U Should It Smash Th...:
Meh, I'd be happy if it just hit the PSN goal and missed Wii U. Given the choice, that's where I'd play the game anyway. That said, it's too early to tell if it'll even go THAT far. Too many good-looking retro games on Kickstarter lately, and people are going to get tired of dropping money on products that won't be out for a while eventually.

Stuffgamer1 commented on Nintendo Download: 26th April - Virtual Consol...:
@0SP_ZELDAiii: What, did you come through a time warp or something? That information is YEARS out of date! Europe is CONSTANTLY getting stuff we miss out on now...hence we're still waiting for Kirby's Dream Land 2 and Wario Land 3, both of which they've had on 3DS VC for MONTHS...Picross e 1 AND 2 (they seem to have a particular vendetta against Picross lately)...not to mention, y'know, retail games such as ALL THREE Project Rainfall titles.
#31
Stuffgamer1 commented on Nintendo Download: 26th April - Virtual Consol...:
Europe gets Mario's Super Picross and we miss out AGAIN? WTF, Nintendo? WHY WON'T YOU GIVE AMERICA PICROSS ANYMORE?
That's it...first chance I get, I'm going to Miiverse to complain. Gotta do SOMETHING to get it through their thick skulls...

Stuffgamer1 commented on Satoru Iwata Taking Over CEO Role of Nintendo ...:
Part of a unified global strategy, huh? Does that mean he'll finally do something about the OBSCENE differences in release dates between regions for certain games? It's been almost a YEAR since Europe got Kirby's Dreamland 2 on 3DS VC (even longer for Japan), and America is STILL waiting! Similar story for Wario Land 3. If they take this seriously and improve on this kind of BS, it'll be a good move. If nothing really changes, I can't say I very much care about title shuffling.

Stop adding multiplayer to great single-player games, dammit! I don't see this turning out any better than any number of previous failed attempts at this kind of shtick.

Stuffgamer1 commented on These Screens Show What NES Games Would Be Lik...:
Not gonna lie...looking at the full gallery, there are some I really wish WERE real. The hint button for Shadowgate...I refuse to believe anybody ever beat the game on their own. Achievements are nice, although the picture for Kid Icarus is obviously exaggerated (more like three HUNDRED snakes, probably). The checkpoint for Castlevania...HECK YES, IT NEEDS THAT! The cracks in the wall in Zelda...looks like a plus to me...although the ones where you can tap the wall to CHECK before wasting bombs are a fair trade-off. And I really don't get the point of the last one.
Overall, I think the positives in modern game design more than make up for the negatives when compared to NES stuff. SNES...now that's a tougher call.

Dunno about that "procedural generation" thing for the dungeons. The thing that makes Metroid and Metroidvania so good is the well-made levels! Randomize that and you've blown the whole thing.

Stuffgamer1 commented on Deep Silver Has "No Plans" To Support Wii U:
I think it also stems from the viewpoint that gamers who WANT this kind of game already bought and PS3 and/or 360 years ago to supplement their Wii's. After all, that's what Iwata told us to do. I, for one, have no intention to buy ANYTHING on Wii U that I could just get on my PS3 instead. To me, Nintendo consoles are for exclusive games, period.
Also...I don't care about this developer's output in general.

Stuffgamer1 commented on No Circle Pad Pro In Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moo...:
While I wish the game had the original's control scheme, I have to admit that they did a very good job with what they had. The way the game is designed, it simply wouldn't have been feasible to have both controls methods available, and NOBODY is going to be stupid enough to make a game that REQUIRES the Circle Pad Pro. Yes, the controls in Dark Moon take some getting used to, but they work pretty darned well overall.

Stuffgamer1 commented on Amazon Promoting Rival Consoles On Nintendo Pr...:
Read this on Kotaku earlier...it certainly is strange, but then again it could be for no other reason than the fact that Amazon doesn't carry the machines directly....they'd rather make a sale straight to you, of course. But that doesn't explain why they don't carry the hardware in the first place...

Stuffgamer1 commented on Square Enix Teases New Projects on Anniversary...:
Interesting...the teaser site is down now, and that Gematsu article updated to suggest it might have been a joke all along. But the fact remains that Square and Enix DID finalize their merger on April 1st, 2003...presumably due to the financial year.

@Omega: You have an interesting point, but I'd rather not jump to conclusions here...he's been a nice and helpful guy on the game's Facebook page and whatnot, so I'm really not sure he'd pull that kind of stunt. Either way, I don't care all that much because I'm not getting it on WiiWare no matter what he says.
#47
Stuffgamer1 commented on Retro City Rampage Has Only Sold a Quarter of ...:
I played and liked the game...on PS3 some months ago. Really, the market for the WiiWare version is sure to be ABSURDLY small given how many superior platforms it was already out on. So ten out of ten for style, but minus several million for good thinking, huh?

Stuffgamer1 commented on Phil Fish: I Love Nintendo In Ways It Probably...:
I had no problem with his point about the Circle Pad...one isn't enough for this kind of game. Some of the rest of his rant went a little far, sure, but it may very well be that he wishes Nintendo would just catch up to Sony in hardware design so he could play THEIR awesome software in the best format possible. I like my 3DS, don't get me wrong, but it DOES have its issues.

Stuffgamer1 commented on Android-based Ouya Console Will Have NES and S...:
Dunno about the need for emulators on the Ouya specifically. I guess it's useful for those who don't have computers connected to their TV's, but if you do, it's meaningless. Of course, the same argument could be made about the Ouya in general.

Stuffgamer1 commented on Shaun Of The Dead Star Seems Pleased With Zomb...:
@rastamadeus: Well, that was a bit of a needlessly insulting way to put it...granted, I watched the movie some years ago; it is entirely possible that my sensitivity to such things has reduced since then. But I think it is at least not so hard to understand why a guy going into a movie expecting lighthearted shenanigans would be upset by the approach Shaun of the Dead took. Felt like the old bait-and-switch, but with extra nausea.
