@LDXD I understand what you mean. It would be presumptuous of me to say that they could have figured something out. I do BELIEVE it would be possible but I can't know. All I am saying is that for me, the camera became an issue, and while I appreciate the co-op, this game just doesn't stand up to the standard of Mario 64 and Galaxy 1 and 2 in my opinion for the reasons I described above. I will never say 3D World isn't a good game, I just don't see it as deserving of the universal praise it has received.

@JaxonH I know about how to move the camera in 3D World, but it is hardly the same as a free moving camera, and doesn't even have that limited freedom when playing co-op. Obviously most games don't have stereoscopic 3D, but most 3D games do have a free moving camera. 3D Land worked with the limited camera angles because of the stereoscopic 3D in my opinion. This is why I think the structure of the game doesn't translate well from the 3DS to the Wii U, though I do think the multiplayer works. I just wish you could choose more challenging difficulty options such as not having a player return once he dies, or failing a stage unless all players make it through without ever dying. It takes a lot of the bite away when players can just take turns dying and coming back until the stage is finished.

Am I the only person disappointed with this game? Don't get me wrong, it's a good game, but too much of the platforming in this game seems familiar, and uninspired. But my biggest gripe is that the fixed camera without the stereoscopic 3D of 3D Land has made it very hard for me to judge depth. On more than one occasion, I have fallen simply because I wasn't able to judge just how deep into the screen and away from the camera I was.

Again, good game, but to me not the 10/10 it has received in so many reviews. To me, Pikmin 3 has been the Wii U GOTY. Sorry if that rubs anyone the wrong way, it's just my opinion.

I thought Fire Emblem: Awakening was incredible. That game already seems to be getting forgotten a bit after New Leaf, X and Y, and A Link Between Worlds. Awakening absolutely belongs in the best handheld game of the year conversation, and yet it is being overlooked even when it comes to nominations. I guess that's what it gets for coming out early in the year.

I agree that Nintendo should avoid developing games for smart devices, nor should they bring their current games to those platforms. However, I don't see classic games originally released on the NES, SNES, GBA, etc. being released on smart devices posing a threat to Nintendo's own platforms. Will gamers stop buying 3DS's and Wii U's when Super Mario Bros. 3 is available on the iPhone yet games like Animal Crossing: New Leaf and Pikmin 3 are not?

The Virtual Console is a wonderful service, but probably not one that does a heck of a lot to drive hardware sales. I would argue that those who prefer their buttons would still buy those games on Nintendo platforms, and those who don't have that preference are in most cases not buying dedicated-gaming devices anyway. Additionally, Nintendo's franchises are still recognizable enough to succeed on smart devices where other properties fail.

I'm curious what the Nintendo Life staff's take on this strategy is.

Already got the season pass. I didn't care for the Millennium Pack skins nor Gotham by Gaslight, but I am genuinely looking forward to the Long Halloween skin (not that skins are really that important). Hopefully the Black Mask Challenge will be worthwhile, but the narrative DLC is where I'm hoping this will really shine. If it has as much value as Harley Quinn's Revenge then I'll be pleased.

I expect that Nintendo is waiting for the release of Super Mario 3D World and the start of the holiday shopping season before beginning a new marketing/messaging campaign for the Wii U. If the advertisements aren't more apparent at the end of November, I will be confounded.

For the non-computer scientists here, the fact that they coded the engine entirely in assembly is a pretty big deal. Coding in a higher level language like C gets translated in a "best attempt at efficiency" assembly code. Coding directly in assembly means a heck of a lot more work, but can result in a much more efficiently running engine, and one that is more tailor made to the hardware. I'm not sure how common this is in the industry, but I suspect it is quite rare. Intriguing.

@imageform

Your advice was very helpful! Thank you for taking the time to respond to my comment. I will definitely be downloading this game, and it only took a few words from the developer to convince me ;) I'm looking forward to it :)

And I appreciate your words as to why you like "real gamers." In response, I can say that many of us are truly grateful for developers like you who take their craft so seriously and work so hard to create games that you clearly have so much pride in.

I wish games like this had demos available on the eShop. While I am sure this is a great game, I'm not convinced it's a game for me. If I could have a 15 to 30 minute trial run with a digital download title, then I think I could decide if I wanted it.

Doesn't make much sense. The install base for the 3DS is already fairly high, so you would have to figure that the vast majority of people interested in this title already have it. As such, this doesn't seem like it can sell many copies, let alone be a Wii U system seller. Unless a Wii U version would have significant enhancements or bonus experiences to encourage double dipping, this probably wouldn't perform very well.

On the other hand, a remake of the original, or a digital re-release, could attract a lot of people who played New Moon (2) but didn't play the original.
