sorry, my mistake - I saw the June 28th date in the snippet of the press release and thought it would be today. This is a great week regardless, I'm buying Marvel Pinball, Bomb Monkey, and getting the Rhythm Thief demo (already have KH demo and VVVVVV) :)

I tried this game at a recent demo event and really enjoyed it. I was impressed with the new ways Spirit Camera uses AR, doing things with it that I didn't even know were possible. As soon as the game starts, it uses AR in a way that truly surprised me. Also, I had no trouble getting the AR to work consistently. I certainly hope they continue to make more games that use the same ideas presented in this one. Playing it for a few minutes encouraged me to buy it from Target ($20 after doing the trade-in special this week) despite the reviews, and I'm so glad that I did. Even though it's short, I know I would replay it once in a while because it's such a unique experience. I'd encourage everyone who's interested in this game, but dismissing it based on reviews, to give it a chance if they see a demo somewhere, or at least reconsider when there's a price drop. Otherwise you might be missing out on a game that you'll really like.

I bought Urban Champion and although I haven't played much yet, I find it fun and addicting. Like Heavy_Barrel said, it's a game from a simpler time that helped pave the way for fighting games, so it's worth owning as an enhanced piece of gaming history, if nothing else.

The only thing stopping me from buying this game is the static backgrounds - it's just one of those things that I think might really bother me enough to ruin the game. Does the 3D effect lessen how lifeless they are? Can you please go into some detail on this? Thanks!

@RichIcon: I have yet to play the game since racing games aren't really my thing, but I wanted to commend you for joining the discussion and being so friendly. I watched the video of the game on the Nintendo Channel with someone else and we were actually both surprised with how good the graphics were for a WiiWare release and we were wondering how you even fit all of that content into 40 MB. I wish your team and your games the best of luck.

I was really, really looking forward to this...but had feared for the worst when I heard about the motion controls. Very similar situation with Evasive Space. Hopefully we'll see a demo of this one so we can at least try the controls for ourselves.

stratocastx commented on Square Enix Drops Some Darklord DLC On Its PALs:

@Bass X0 - I'm at the last level of the fourth chapter and haven't needed any DLC. I've had to put a couple hours in to a couple levels to beat them, and my only complaint about the difficulty is that you have to play through the levels to know what units come in what order. All of the levels are easily beatable once you formulate the right strategy, which usually just takes a lot of trial and error. I fully intend on beating the game without any DLC, and I usually play through 2 or 3 stages a day. It's a great value at the initial 1000 points, for sure.

stratocastx commented on Review: Bit.Trip Core (WiiWare):

@CommanderVideo: CORE, along with BEAT, has already made the Bit.Trip series into one of my favorites of all time. I haven't made it through Exploration yet, but the song is SO AWESOME that I don't mind replaying it over and over. I especially love how the interface now pulsates along with the beat.

I hope you guys will continue evolving the series in the way you went from BEAT to CORE while still maintaining the connection between the gameplay and the music. You mentioned in an interview about possibly doing a "frantic collection-type game". I'm not sure how much I like that idea, but if it happens, I know you all will make it work! I too salute you, Commander :)

stratocastx commented on Interviews: BIT.TRIP CORE - Gaijin Games:

@CommanderVideo: very awesome, indeed! I was lucky enough to discover the game at the DisneyQuest in Orlando. There's a decent video of it on YouTube that will give you a general idea of how it plays. It's like a tug-of-war using waves of light, with some rhythm elements added in. When you see the waves of light traveling fast, that's when someone has hit one of the five buttons exactly on a beat.

Seems like there were very few of them made, so it's pretty rare and unknown. Hope you get a chance to play it somewhere - if you ever use it as an influence in one of your future games, that would be fantastic!

Can't wait to play some CORE tomorrow! :)

stratocastx commented on Interviews: BIT.TRIP CORE - Gaijin Games:

Buying CORE the day it comes out. Loved BEAT - truly one of my favorite games I've ever played and I'm sure CORE will not disappoint as a follow-up. As others said, I'm so happy this is a series. Thank you Gaijin (and Corbie for the interview)!

A question for Gaijin, if anyone there reads this: have any of you guys ever played the Sega arcade game "Flash Beats"?

stratocastx commented on Review: Crystal Defenders R2 (WiiWare):

@KS8: I'm glad you're enjoying R2. I can't imagine I'd do well at all in R2 without having finally finished R1...and as Corbie said, don't be put off by the easy difficulty at the beginning. It'll definitely take you some time to perfect the later stages.

Also, is R3 being released? Or is R2 the end of the series?

stratocastx commented on Nintendo Download: Masks, Crystals, Chess and ...:

@KS8: In that case, I would definitely suggest R1 and R2. Even though R1 is essentially a tutorial, the last 5 or so levels are VERY hard to perfect, at least for me. I've probably spent 12-13 or more hours with the game, and enjoyed every minute of it. If you're still that unsure about it, go with just R2. Like mentioned in the board thread, if the end of R1 is any indication of the difficulty of R2, it's definitely going to take some time to perfect.

Your thoughts on IGN are music to my ears.

stratocastx commented on Nintendo Download: Masks, Crystals, Chess and ...:

@KS8 - I have yet to purchase R2 until I finish R1, but I agree with you on IGN and their reviews. From what I read of it, it's more of the same garbage that they spewed for the R1 review.

Honestly, if you're interested in this game at all and don't have the other systems to possibly consider getting the game on, then I say go for it...I've had a ton of fun with R1 and I'm sure R2 will be even more worth the points. Sorry IGN, not all of us have/want an iPhone, 360, or PS3 (or their versions of Crystal Defenders with their frame rate issues, lack of full screen, and lack of speeding up the waves).

stratocastx commented on Review: Crystal Defenders R1 (WiiWare):

Isn't R2 the same price as R1 in Japan? So I don't see it being free here...probably another 800 points. Bah, what a disappointment...I really wanted this but I'm not supporting their poor choices.

stratocastx commented on Nintendo Download: Dr. Mario, Wonder Boy, More...:

@Drake: How disappointing. Is it possible those things were removed because they will be added in R2? Is R1 the same otherwise, or has the content being changed for the WW version? I've read on some sites that since this is titled R1, the content might be specific to the WW version. Or is it really just a downgraded port split into two games?

Sigh... so confusing... and I was really looking forward to this one because I won't have a 360/PS3 for quite a long time =/

Well, I got what I wished for - Descent is much more difficult, and I have yet to beat it! I love the difficulty though! I can't wait to see the next game in the Bit.Trip series. Thank you for this wonderful concept :)

stratocastx commented on Review: Bit.Trip: Beat (WiiWare):

I love love love everything about this game. The funny thing is, I beat the first level on my first try but haven't been able to do it since! Still, I hope the 2nd and 3rd levels are even more difficult. The first level takes a little too long to get fast-paced along with the trickier beats.
