Whether or not Nintendo's at fault here, there needs to be something said by the company. SOMETHING. Creating confusion and ignoring consumers is a big no no. As I have already put, and others share the same sentiment, we're put off by the whole thing. We at least deserve something for being denied a product we're willing to give money for. They did this back in '06 with the release of the Wii. As far as I'm concerned, it could all be a ploy to generate hype.

They should not have released 12 separate figures, then another 6 in less than 1 month span. That was way too ambitious to expect people to not gravitate towards the figures that were only going to be 2-3 of per store (marth).
Now, if they had released, say 4 before Christmas (Mario, Link, Donkey Kong, and maybe Fox), I think they would have had a better bearing on the situation. Too many to choose from out of the gate with select figures being rare to begin with caused the chaos.

Yup. Not a rumor. My pre-order done last week has been cancelled. This may have been the tipping point for me as to whether I care anymore about this. If it's going to be this frustrating/impossible to collect these things in tandem with Nintendo not saying a word on the matter, I may just call it quits on this. Very poorly executed at the most important time of the year for sales.

It's ok. Out of all the controller options that I've attempted so far (GCN controller, 3DS, gamepad), it's probably my least favorite. For some reason it's a bit weird for me to use the top shoulder buttons for dodge/shield. I wouldn't quite recommend it for serious/competitive play.

@rjejr
Exactly. It's as though Nintendo is giving the impression that they just don't care. I'm sure they do, but the lack of communication or capability to restock is embarrassing. My excitement to collect something involving the pride in Nintendo is taking a hit with their incompetence in this matter. And whether or not it's their fault with the manufacturer/retailer, whatever it is, it still should be communicated. Because, like you say, it may put people off from buying stuff, which as I'm saying right now, is exactly what's happening to me.

As much as I want to start hunting down the wave 2 collection, my wallet has to take a break. The holidays are here, and being selfish is not the answer here. If they restock them in January, then good. If not, oh well. Nintendo would be beyond foolish for not doing so as to accommodate collectors/fans/kids who can't get enough of these things. Bleeding my wallet and upsetting the wife is just not worth it.

@mastermp2
Well, that sure would be interesting for them to be THAT popular. I have a feeling this stuff will subside either after Christmas or after wave 2 (here in NA). I really don't see Nintendo passing this kind of opportunity to cash in. I mean, all we gotta do is show them ebay sellers like this douche:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Super-Smash-Bros-Wii-U-Animal-Crossing-Amiibo-Figure-/281527208205?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item418c54490d

Pretty sure this would make them unhappy, too, knowing that they're losing out on potential sales that scalpers are reaping.

sigh Nintendo Logics: Product sells out - "let's discontinue them, money is stupid."

Thankfully, I was able to nab the 3 of these 'lil "soon to be treasures", but I fear for the ones coming out soon. I think they should have spaced them out a little better. Releasing a whopping 12 on launch was a bit too much. And then to follow up with another 6, 3 weeks later? I have to hold off on Treasure Trackers because of these little barstewards. lol

What's the longest gamestop will hold a pre-order? Cuz I certainly can't pay for another few at full price for a while at this rate.

I'm assuming this direct coming on Thursday will finally answer some questions involving the amiibos in general in the process. Well, at least I'm hoping it does. There's too much mystery revolved around these things to get overly excited on my end. Yes, they're decent figures (not by any means the best), and yes, there's some functionality with smash and other games, but for Nintendo to put out these figures with very little back-story to this point with less than a month away is very odd.
Other than the possibility of "leveling-up" an AI fighter or whatever in smash (kind of a throw-away function if you ask me), and looking cool on a desk, why MUST I buy amiibos (from a gaming perspective), Nintendo? I'm close to pulling the trigger with these things, but I would hope they know what they've released so far on them is sub-par to say the least. To add on to that, it's really hard to hype this up to others I know who are partially interested in getting a Wii U for smash bros.
To put it simply, I have yet to categorize amiibos under "video games"; right now they're filed under "desk ornaments". :-P

@ikki5
Yeah, it didn't sit with me very well in an article I read that he backlashed against critics of the few cloned characters in smash bros. 3ds. I won't spoil said characters for anyone here, but his comments were something along the lines of saying the video game community are a bunch of complainers and that those "extra" characters were just that, extra.

I agree that the community complains aaaaaalot, but I'm sorry, he had that coming. Ever since Melee, fans of the series are not fans of seeing "clones" of existing fighters and have made that very clear. So, when these "clones" made their way into the 3DS version, it kind of illustrates how little he cares about the criticisms coming from the fans on that issue from the previous games. Don't get me wrong, he's an amazing director of the series and has a lot of awesome ideas that have made it into the series, but on the flipside, ignoring fans request about something so important as leaving out fighters with a different skin when they could have dedicated that time to someone new to fill that spot, seems a bit silly.

Honestly, if the online infrastructure is going to be on the same level as brawl, then I don't even care what this added stuff would be. Nail that down in terms of stability and features, then we'll talk. Like seriously. If it's going to be lag city playing online with friends, it's going to be hard to come back to smash in the future. It's vitally important that this be functioning to it's "true potential", because outside of online, brawl was actually a very fine installment. A lot of my friends dropped Nintendo for that very reason since we couldn't play smash consistently online - something that should not have been an issue.

The fine line they're trying to walk here is that they aren't REQUIRED to buy to enjoy the game - just more of an add on. I totally get your point, too. What they're trying to explain (I want to still see this for myself, though) is that the Amiibo FP fighters will mimic your fighting habits and not so much behave like typical AI. Again, I'm not so convinced about this myself. To me, if these have outside applications from Smash that are more intriguing, then I'll be a little bit more onboard as well. For right now, they look like cool figures that have a slight to little impact on gameplay. If they would only release some features outside of Smash and enlighten us, until then, they're STILL a mystery to me.

I saw the update and how it's affected the menu in game and it is a bit...in your face (lol), but at the price point of $12 to add to a game I already felt great on it's own and knowing even before they announced said DLC that I would probably get it anyways, this isn't going to affect anything for me.

I could see it as "bothersome" if you were never interested in DLC as it shows the possible cups on the track selection screen. But again, $12 for 16 tracks, 6 racers, and 8 new karts is amazing as a bonus to the game. If you're a Mario Kart fan in any way, this is a no brainer in my book and will just be too hard to pass up.

The one thing to understand here, Nintendo isn't doing too hot with the Wii U ever since launch. You can point at marketing, hardware design, software releases, whatever. But as weird/bizarre this may seem that they're doing something of this nature that comes off as "hey! buy this!", I'd rather them try things like this instead of just ignore the possibilities.

Let's be perfectly clear, they're not in the position to NOT take risks. No risks, no reward. As a majority have stated, it's quite obvious this will cater to the demands of those (myself included) who are excited to what doors this may open. Yes, it's scary that Nintendo's sort of taking on the "well, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em" in the DLC department. But if you value this company sticking around and making games, they have to do whatever it takes to keep that alive.

Also, everyone I've told about this who doesn't follow Nintendo because they've jumped ship from them in this past generation think it's fantastic news. That right there is what I've been waiting for - something that can get the attention of old Nintendo fans.

Wanna see bad DLC? See EA games and the recent Resident Evil games. Your ideology I understand is very traditional and that's well and fine. And I also understand your point because I loathed how these other companies were treating DLC by announcing it before the games even came out. But believe me, they can do this right. I believe they're listening to demands (all the baby characters, really?) and because we're in this generation of gaming, things like this can be done.

And go ahead and only pay for it once. That's your call. Just know that many people out there, myself included, feel the game was perfectly fine at release and felt complete. This is only ADDING TO THE GAME. I don't wanna hear your bs answers on whether it was finished or not. Doesn't matter. Like someone else said before, how do you know this stuff wasn't done post-release? Just as you're claiming to someone saying it was done prior to release. No one knows. And unless you worked on this game, no one can say otherwise.

Stop complaining for sake of complaining. This is amazing news - they are listening to fans. Sorry, but you are in the minority on this one. You want Ninty to go the way of the dodo by keeping to the same ol ways? It's called getting with the times AND DOING IT RIGHT. DLC can be handled the right way, and they have done it right so far with other releases.

Spartacus3765 commented on Nintendo Has Nothing to Say About Recent Smash...:

@IxC The way I feel about DLC is pretty simple, yet I understand in this day and age how it can be complicated/expected in almost every game.

1. No mention of DLC prior to launch for the title. However, if mentioned, prior to release, it should be as vague as possible to lead to the idea that it will be to ADD TO THE EXPERIENCE. In other words, if any of the characters already talked about, any original characters from previous titles, (or even these ones that are possibly leaked) are indeed DLC, yeah I would agree, that kinda sucks. But if there's even MORE characters waiting that we don't know about and they're released 6 months later, I think you'll be interested. ;-)
2. If the game feels complete on it's own merits upon release, I WOULD COMPLETELY MERIT DLC. Want an example? Try playing Fallout 3 and see the DLC available for that title. Amazing amount of content in the standalone version of the game. Have no problem adding content to an already robust title. Smash will be no different.
3. If you feel the game is amazing and don't want to add to the experience, that's up to you. But if you're tempted by any DLC that could ADD to your experience, then I don't think you should feel jaded that Nintendo would give you that extra bonus. Smash will no doubt be high in content on it's own, so I really don't think you should fear what DLC content they would ADD to the already jam-packed experience.

In a time where Nintendo needs to try some new things to get people back on board with them, I say DLC should be looked into. And although I agree, the Amiibo system they'll have should work in tandem, who's to say that won't be their approach to DLC? Get the figure at the store, also have it in the game. The question that everyone is still concerned about is price on these individual figures/possible DLC. We should find out soon.

No game will probably ever leave me with the amount of awe I first had while playing OOT back in 1997. @Tsurii897, the pure amount of feelings it brought at it's release is why it's still captivating to this day. If it wasn't for the wild success that OOT had, WW would probably not exist. I love WW, but I think this list is pretty spot on, in terms of pure impact these games had in the Zelda universe anyways.

And if I didn't already have DKCR 3D, I'd be getting that, too. I may do what someone else on here said, which was to trade in my physical copy of DKCR 3D at Best Buy to get the $10 GC, get the reward through Club Nintendo and download DKCR 3D, and add the $10 GC towards the deal next week.

The popular opinion here is simply that these rewards pale in comparison to past iterations. To me, the Club Nintendo rewards are 'bonuses' for buying Nintendo products, registering them, taking surveys, etc. That's all. At least how I view them. I just feel they used to have better bonuses. lol

I think most people's complaints stems from what's been offered in the past compared to this year. At least that's my disappointment anyways. At this rate, you may be right. Poor offerings (seemingly getting worse and worse) ---> negative response ---> pull the plug. And it's not to say that what Nintendo's plan from the beginning wasn't great with this program, but it's only obvious that it's slowing down. Just look at the offerings - they used to have upwards of 10 physical rewards, now there's only 5. Looks like I missed my opportunity to get the hanafuda cards...

Free things are great, but if we stack the elite rewards against each other over the years, this one is a huge failure in comparison. If they want people to have the incentive to register software (buy software) in order to get cool exclusive rewards for loyalty, then they seriously dropped the ball here.
I wasn't able to achieve platinum last year sadly - really wish it was this year that that had happened. Cuz my choices are Earthbound or NES Remix...DKCR would have been the obvious choice, if I didn't just get it a few months ago. >__>
