Slapshot commented on 3DS Nears 1 Million Units Sold in UK:
Sales trends are just fun to watch. PS Vita is selling very well in the UK, but slower in Japan and the Americas, while the 3DS is selling like crazy in Japan and the Americas, but still a bit slow in the UK. Crazy thing these sales trends are.

Slapshot commented on Feature: Launching a Console Without Mario:
@SpaceKappa said it for me: Mario 64 is indeed the best launch title of all time. Period.
I'll take a NIS/Atlus RPG with my Wii U at launch please and thank you.

Slapshot commented on Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend?:
@MikeDanger1 Yep. Agreed. I've enjoyed it as much as the original. I wish they'd have acquired the funding to translate it, but the sales never reached their goal.

Slapshot commented on Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend?:
@MikeDanger1 Ah, so you didn't have to spend hours fighting through the Japanese text based game. Lucky you! That was the only bad part of the game that was a drag, but everything else has been a blast, and worth the high cost of importing.

Slapshot commented on Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend?:
@Pogocoop Haha... me too! I'm an indie nerd, and this game is just sucking my life away, and I'm loving it. Oh, how great Recettear would be on 3DS!
@MikeDanger1 I almost listed Game Center CX 2, but I've got a review to wrap up this weekend and I don't think I'll be breaking it out, or else I might not get anything done properly this weekend.

Slapshot commented on Review: Mario Tennis Open (3DS):
@Jon Thanks for the clarification. Yeah, that does seem like it balances out quite well, with it not letting the gyro control method allowing for the better shots. I was afraid this was another Blue Shell scenario, which has kept me from Mario Kart 7. I do know that I'm far too competitive for my own good, but I can't help it. Great to hear though, and I think I'll indeed be snagging this one off a store shelf in the near future.

Slapshot commented on Review: Mario Tennis Open (3DS):
@Jon Just out of curiosity, as I've not yet played the game. What I understood from others that have played it online, is that a person playing with the "training wheels" touch controls only have to input the correct button presses, as the game automatically handles all the character movement for them. This means that if an experienced gamer continually press the right button over and again, as that's their only focus point, their could potentially be unbeatable — unbalancing the game for those trying to play the game without it, as they're needing to fully control the characters, as well making their shot selections.
I completely understand Nintendo's implementation of it, as it's a great way for our younger gamers to enjoy the game, but I feel it needed a filter when being brought into the online world. People glitch online games everyday to gain an upper edge, and this is a gimmick that has the potential to ruin the online for those of us who enjoy competitive gaming online against random opponents. It's a make or break deal for myself. I loved the earlier titles in the series', and before this reveal, I had planned to pick the game up. When playing online, can you see if others are using the touch controls to know if you're possibly at an unfair advantage?

Slapshot commented on Peter Molyneux Wants More From 'Lacklustre Wii U':
I've always enjoyed Peter Molyneux's creative mindset and unreachable desires. He's also quite right in his statements in my opinion, but I also think Nintendo will 'wow' everyone with Wii U at E3 too.

Slapshot commented on Sakurai: Dual Analogue Control in Kid Icarus: ...:
I've just recently found the time to pick the game up, and I take issue with the controls as well. In flight, the stylus works wonderfully, but on the ground, they're unintiutive and frustrating. I've played through the hand cramps with Metroid DS, but I'm pretty much done with this one, simply because of the controls.
For the record, the exact same argument was raised when Killzone 3 merged Move vs DualShock 3 controls against eachother in online multiplayer. Both control methods have their pros and cons, and the competition only grew in intensity because of Move's integration.

Slapshot commented on Talking Point: The Critical Importance of Blac...:
@hydeks Last time I checked, cancer kills, not drawing in more money than any other genre in the gaming industry.
If Nintendo truly desires to obtain the core gamers with Wii U, then they'll do everything in their power to get every major third party multiplatform title on Wii U with exclusive control features that aren't possible on other systems. Wii U is a current gen system that is releases years behind the others, but they've got enough creative technology in the system, that if they push hard enough, they could pull in the core gamers by the droves.
Call of Duty: Black Ops II, with dual analogue controls, but exclusive touch screen item slots and mapping interface, etc. would do the series great, and very well could pull in the core gaming crowd once again — Microsoft is losing faith with its core base, and if Nintendo doesn't grab them up, Sony will!
Nintendo actually has the opportunity to draw in the masses with Wii U, its just a matter of if they're willing to make the sacrifices they've held onto for so long now to actually get them. Friends Codes have to absolutely abolished, or no Call of Duty title will ever reach the success of other systems... ever!

Slapshot commented on Talking Point: The Critical Importance of Blac...:
I had absolutely no interest in Call of Duty: Black Ops II until yesterday, when I was literally forced to watch the trailer from a good gamer friend of mine, who's also tired of the series somewhat.
Treyarch is throwing out all the stops with Black Ops II, bringing a futuristic sci-fi shooter that's more in the vein of Halo and Killzone 3, instead of the same small changes that we've previously seen with previous CoD titles. They've even scored David Goyer as a writer, who co-develop the story of Batman movie titles: The Dark Knight and Batman Begins! I'm actually quite excited for this new CoD now!
If Nintendo truly want Wii U to be taken seriously, which is something that it isn't from all of my personal core gamer friends, they need to do any and everything that they can to make dang sure that Call of Duty: Black Ops II lands on Wii U!

Slapshot commented on Interview: Trent Oster - WiiWare from a Develo...:
Great interview. I'm glad to see that you guys have found an understanding with his frustrations. It's always hard to see behind the curtains as a fan, or gamer, but for Beamdog, their game's selling is how they feed their families, and allows their company to move forward onto following projects.

Slapshot commented on Talking Point: Why Skyward Sword Sales Failed ...:
I honestly didn't realize that the game hadn't shifted more copies. I, for one, have yet to pick up Skyward Sword. I played through a few earlier Zelda titles on my 3DS earlier in the year and I burned myself out on the series. I'm taking a long break from it, and then I'm going to grab Skyward Sword when I'm in need of a fantastic Zelda fix.

I refuse to purchase a full retail title that's locked to any system, that's just the bottom line.
This is, again, another baby step from Nintendo forward, but they still have a long way to go.

Slapshot commented on Nintendo Posts First Annual Loss in 30 Years:
@cfgk24 A half-billion loss isn't bad? I don't care how much money you have in the bank, or what company it is, this is a massive loss for any company!
The difference with Nintendo is that they don't have other sectors to cover their losses, so they've got to turn things around pretty quickly or their looking at a serious problem, which I'm sure won't be an issue.

Slapshot commented on Nintendo Reveals New Super Mario Bros. 2 for 3DS:
@Krimbatize Thanks for visiting the site! I don't think that it's that people are upset that there's a new Mario title coming, it's more that they are afraid of Nintendo overusing the actual platforming Mario titles to keep their systems selling, at the risk of the game's losing their magic/appeal that makes each and every release special.
As for the negative/unreasonable comments, well, it's best to simply ignore and keep on reading.

Slapshot commented on Nintendo Reveals New Super Mario Bros. 2 for 3DS:
I got really excited when I first thought that it was a game in the same vein as Super Mario Bros. 2, but it isn't.
I did enjoy the DS NSMB, but I really didn't care for the Wii iteration, but with that said, I think a 2D Mario in 3D will do just fine. Hopefully, we will get another off-beat Mario title... hopefully.

Slapshot commented on Talking Point: Lessons to be Learned from WiiW...:
@SethNintendo It's been awhile since I saw those numbers, so I'm sure they've gained a bit since then. But I do want to say that the 10% number was an estimate for Wii owners who've purchased something off of the WiiWare service (not free services/updates), but of course, these types of things are always taken with a grain of salt with Nintendo, as they refuse to release sales data on their digital services.
#41
Slapshot commented on Talking Point: Lessons to be Learned from WiiW...:
@SethNintendo The last numbers I recall seeing has the Wii at about a 10-20% online connectivity, compared to the HD consoles 70+% connectivity rate.

Slapshot commented on Talking Point: Lessons to be Learned from WiiW...:
@Betagam7 I don't think, or better yet, I truly hope that isn't the reason there aren't sales on Nintendo's digital storefronts, but that does raise a very interesting question too: Wouldn't weekly price drops increase sales and help the developers to make some money on their games? This is an angle that I hadn't thought about, and honestly, it's one that doesn't help the situation one bit.
@NeoShinobi Actually, if they had gotten their game approved earlier, which they clearly understand isn't all Nintendo's fault, they would have landed in a string of decent WiiWare titles that have sold pretty well. I'm sure it would have likely helped them to gain a few more sales.
MDK and MDKII are both great titles that are truly worth playing through!

Slapshot commented on Talking Point: Lessons to be Learned from WiiW...:
For those who've stated that the 6k limit is nothing, it's been highly publicized that the majority of Wii owners' have never even connected their system to the internet. On PSN/XBLA, this limit is a walk in the park to achieve, but on WiiWare, there's not enough systems connected, and there's little to no coverage of the games releases outside of Nintendo oriented websites. This creates a huge risk to the developer and I'm surprised that anyone has worked on games for the system. Developing games cost real money to the developer and having to potential to sell thousands of copies of your game and not receive a dime for it is poor business standards, there's just no way around it.
Both Microsoft and Sony have programs in place that will fund these small developers projects and publish their games for them, or allow for self publishing. I know that Sony's PubFund program will even pay the developer, regardless if their game sales or not, which is hardly ever on either of the systems, because of the amount of daily users.
3DS is a small step forward to achieving where Nintendo needs to be in the digital market. If they really want to stand even with their competition in this realm and keep the third party developers around, they've got a lot of work to do. Otherwise, things will stay just as they are now — which isn't bad, as they're doing great — but they're a long way from getting core gamers solely on their console(s).

Slapshot commented on Review: Pandora's Tower (Wii):
@CapedGodot Just to add a small bit to what @Mickeymac already stated, the Wii is really starting to show it's age in both processing power and graphics, and the competition these days is incredibly tough. With that said, the fact that these games have the scores they have on a dated console is quite impressive in my book.
