I think the reason that a lot of people remember the original as looking sharper (and indeed most older games) is that they used to be played on CRT televisions which had a much lower definition but due to the nature of a cathode ray tube, also smoothed out pixels due to a blurriness. That's not to say that it actually made the visuals sharper but you just tended not to notice it as much. That's why if you play older games on a current LCD HD TV, they look so much worse than most people remember them. Of course rose tinted glasses also play a part...

Tom, I wouldn't be too surprised if your £220 estimate for a Wii U deluxe is almost spot on. Amazon are currently selling the deluxe model for £247 and I understand the price cut is going to equate to approx. £30 in the UK meaning that amazon (if they follow the recommendation anyway) could potentially sell it for £217

I don't know why everyone is being so insecure saying 'consoles aren't going anywhere' etc... He's not saying they are, he's simply stating that he doesn't think the market can support three major consoles in the future. Given how more and more people are treating consoles as an expensive proposition next to other devices, I'd have to agree. You'll always have the hardcore crowd who want to play games on a dedicated console, but if only those kind of people buy proper games consoles, are they enough to sustain the cost of three major consoles? Probably not.

Sorry to nitpick but my geeky nature just won't let it pass...That is one awful graph, it tells you absolutely nothing. I assume it's total sales on the y-axis and time on the x-axis but one is not labelled and the other doesn't specify the units. Also a source for those figures would be good. I appreciate it must seem like I'm being a total jerk but I assure you it's just as I feel compelled to point it out...good data presentation and citing is important if you want to keep people accurately informed
