This is definitely something that needs to have some light shined upon it.

I can't even imagine how tough it is for these people, who have the choice to leave their home for a place they know nothing about, or stay home & get caught up between a ruthless dictatorship and the brutal genocide being commited by ISIS. It must be absolutely terrifying.

RR529 commented on Review: Ninja Usagimaru - The Gem of Blessings...:

Yeah, I played the demo of this a while back & love it. Will definitely get it down the road.

BTW, what's with that art up in the banner, is it official? It doesn't look half as good as anything presented in the game itself, and kinda makes the game look cheap, if you didn't know any better.

RR529 commented on Nintendo Download: 11th June (North America):

I'll definitely be getting the demos for Japanese Rail Sim 3D, Ninja Usagimaru, & Swords & Darkness.

I've been a fan of the budget Japanese games I've played on the eShop so far, so these are up my alley.

RR529 commented on Review: Samurai Defender (3DS eShop):

Really confused on how a journalist for a Nintendo fan site could possibly confuse Samurai as Chinese... more than once.

Maybe because Circle Entertainment is based in China? (they only published the game though, and didn't develop it)

Anyhow, as for the actual game, I've never been a fan of tower defense games, and I doubt a decidedly average entry in the genre would have won me over (even if it has a cool theme), so I'll pass.

RR529 commented on Review: Pokémon Shuffle (3DS eShop):

Yeah, this is a pretty fun game.

I'm on level 150 (& have caught every Pokémon up to this point) and haven't spent a dime. Just space out your play sessions & you're good.

RR529 commented on Gallery: Help Yourself to Some Gorgeous Wii U ...:

These are cool, but a couple of problems.

1. My tablet can pull up the full picture when I click the images on this article (got the Hyrule Warriors one), but not when I go to the original site (it just blows up the thumbnails to ugly proportions).

2. As for the HW screen, while it'd fit perfectly & beautifully as is, my tablet won't let me set it as my wallpaper without cropping it (which zooms in to a particular part, making it more blurry).

Any ideas/solutions?

@Samuel-Flutter, for a different opinion, I happened to enjoy Bugs VS Tanks. It's not my favorite of the Guild series, as it does have issues (the biggest issues being the repetitive nature of the gameplay, and the fact that some tanks can only be unlocked in the local play only Co-Op missions), but I'd still say it's worth it at the sale price.

I'd say it has more content than maybe even Crimson Shroud, with 40 single player missions, 15 Co-Op missions (if you can find someone to play them with), and over 30 lovingly recreated real world tanks to mix, match, & collect. My possible favorite feature is the encyclopedia that lets you view models & read interesting facts about the tanks you've collected & bugs you've defeated.

Again, it's my least favorite of the Guild games (Crimson ShroudLiberation MaidenFriday MonstersStarship DamreyBugs VS Tanks), but still worth a look, IMO (especially at this price).

RR529 commented on December's Club Nintendo Rewards Aim to Bring ...:

@ricklongo, I don't think they should get rid of Wii VC games (and I hope they don't ever go away, at least for as long as they're going to do this). Rather, I'd wish they'd let you choose between a Wii U or Wii code, that way you could get it for whichever system you wanted.

I would have gotten Kirby's Dream Land 3 if it were available for Wii, but I can't since it's only for Wii U, and I don't have one. Maybe I'll go for Radar Mission...

RR529 commented on Review: Xeodrifter (3DS eShop):

I thought Mutant Mudds was alright, but nothing special, so I'm a bit apprehensive of RK's games, but I've grown to love the "Metroidvania" sub-genre over the past few years, so I'll keep my eye on this.

There's other games I want to get to first, though.

RR529 commented on Nintendo Wins Four At The Game Awards 2014, Wh...:

@mozie, I fail to see how you could have percieved it as a Sony event.

Sony only had as many appearances on stage as Nintendo in terms of new trailers (Bloodborne, MLB 15 the Show, & Order 1886 for PS, and Mario Maker, S.T.E.A.M, & Zelda U for Nintendo). If anything, since they both opened & closed the show, I'd say Nintendo had a slightly more prominent presence.

As for the ads, they have to pay for the event somehow, so I was fine with them (no different than watching commercials on TV, other than the fact that they were all gaming related). Neither Sony or MS won any awards either, meaning there can't possibly be any accusations of them "paying off the event" (not that I'm accusing you personally of saying such. It's just I don't really see how the ads were a problem).

RR529 commented on Nintendo Wins Four At The Game Awards 2014, Wh...:

To those wondering how Hearthstone beat Smash 3DS, it was obvious a mile away.

Hearthstone was nominated for overall GOTY. It would have been very inconsistent if it were to lose in a "lesser" category against titles not nominated for GOTY.

I'm not saying I agree or disagree (I haven't played the game, so I'm not about to judge), but it seemed fairly obvious because of my above point, IMO.

RR529 commented on Code Name: S.T.E.A.M Local and Online Multipla...:

To anyone else that watched the awards show:

Is it just me, or did it look like there were quickly vanishing spurts of blood whenever you shot someone else in multiplayer?

Not that it bothers me, but it looks slightly out of place in a first party game.

RR529 commented on Anniversary: The Nintendo DS is Now 10 Years Old:

I didn't get my DS until 2009 (red Lite model), but the time I spent with it will be fondly remembered.

Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword, Spirit Tracks, Kingdom Hearts: 365/2 Days, NSMB, Ace Attorney Investigations, Phantom Hourglass, Kirby Super Star Ultra, Kingdom Hearts: Re:Coded, and many, many more great games (good times).

RR529 commented on Rumour: Concept Work from Former Next Level Ga...:

That Samus design looks pretty darn ugly, IMO (though the monster designs look pretty good).

Also, given that he was in charge between 2007-2009, I doubt this is 3DS concept art (and certainly not Wii U). If it was indeed intended to be made into a game, the very angular design of Samus screams DS to me.

RR529 commented on Review: Toy Stunt Bike (3DS eShop):

I've played the demo & really like it, but will probably pick up Urban Trials Freestyle first, since it seems to be the better liked of the two, and is currently on sale dirt cheap.

RR529 commented on Review: Kirby & The Amazing Mirror (Wii U eShop):

Ooh, that's too bad, as I really liked this one.

I have it on my 3DS, and while I couldn't get into it at first (even deleted it), the second time I tried it I really enjoyed it.

Yeah, the map is pretty lame & not all that helpful, so it's not perfect, but I honestly didn't find exploring the world to be all that difficult, and I became addicted to finding all the alternate paths. Also, the backtracking isn't nearly as bad as the review made it out to be, because there are mirrors scattered throughout the world (2 in each area) that directly connect to the main hub room (a fact conveniently ignored in the review). Also, other than the first area, you can complete all the areas in any order you desire, making it one of the most non-linear games I've ever played (even moreso than some Metroid games), which is really cool.

RR529 commented on The Club Nintendo Rewards Are Confirmed for April:

There are some good choices this time, but nothing for me personally, unfortunately.

SMW would have been a definite pick up, but as it's Wii U only, it leaves me out. Mario Golf would be my second pick, but I don't have enough coins for it. The two DSiWare titles just aren't grabbing my attention either.

RR529 commented on Mario Kart Arcade GP DX Now Available To Play ...:

Yeah, as others have said, I've seen commercials for this for about a month. Seems like they're advertising it as their current core attraction.

Oh, and for those of you who don't have a local location, but are seeing the commercials anyway (like @SlayerG). It's probably because they're buying time on a national network (like FX or whatever), and anyone watching that channel will see the commercial, since it's aired nationally.

RR529 commented on Yumi's Odd Odyssey Casting Into North American...:

Don't really have the money (or space) to buy it, but it looks interesting, and the pricing is more than fair.

New, boxed 3DS games go for $40, so at only $30, it's digital only status has already given you a $10 discount.

RR529 commented on Review: Steel Diver: Sub Wars (3DS eShop):

Yeah, this is a really fun game, especially online.

They do need to fix the connection issues though, & I'd love a greater focus on the goofy maps like "Fish Tank", "Hot Springs", & "Swimming Pool" (the more realistic maps are pretty generic, and run together, IMO).

RR529 commented on Review: AeternoBlade (3DS eShop):

Demo seemed fun enough to me, but yeah, not at $15.

A 5 seems about right (which if some of you knew NL's rating policy, is actually "average" instead of "bad").

RR529 commented on UK Retailer GAME to Open Two Pre-Owned Only St...:

Good move for them, I suppose.

While I'm a proponent of buying games new when you have the means to do so, I don't have a problem with the used market, as it allows kids (who usually don't have much money) to get into gaming. In fact, if it weren't for the used market, I'd never have gotten into Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, or Ace Combat, for example.
