@ricklongo, I don't think they should get rid of Wii VC games (and I hope they don't ever go away, at least for as long as they're going to do this). Rather, I'd wish they'd let you choose between a Wii U or Wii code, that way you could get it for whichever system you wanted.

I would have gotten Kirby's Dream Land 3 if it were available for Wii, but I can't since it's only for Wii U, and I don't have one. Maybe I'll go for Radar Mission...

I thought Mutant Mudds was alright, but nothing special, so I'm a bit apprehensive of RK's games, but I've grown to love the "Metroidvania" sub-genre over the past few years, so I'll keep my eye on this.

There's other games I want to get to first, though.

RR529 commented on Nintendo Wins Four At The Game Awards 2014, Wh...:

@mozie, I fail to see how you could have percieved it as a Sony event.

Sony only had as many appearances on stage as Nintendo in terms of new trailers (Bloodborne, MLB 15 the Show, & Order 1886 for PS, and Mario Maker, S.T.E.A.M, & Zelda U for Nintendo). If anything, since they both opened & closed the show, I'd say Nintendo had a slightly more prominent presence.

As for the ads, they have to pay for the event somehow, so I was fine with them (no different than watching commercials on TV, other than the fact that they were all gaming related). Neither Sony or MS won any awards either, meaning there can't possibly be any accusations of them "paying off the event" (not that I'm accusing you personally of saying such. It's just I don't really see how the ads were a problem).

To those wondering how Hearthstone beat Smash 3DS, it was obvious a mile away.

Hearthstone was nominated for overall GOTY. It would have been very inconsistent if it were to lose in a "lesser" category against titles not nominated for GOTY.

I'm not saying I agree or disagree (I haven't played the game, so I'm not about to judge), but it seemed fairly obvious because of my above point, IMO.

To anyone else that watched the awards show:

Is it just me, or did it look like there were quickly vanishing spurts of blood whenever you shot someone else in multiplayer?

Not that it bothers me, but it looks slightly out of place in a first party game.

I didn't get my DS until 2009 (red Lite model), but the time I spent with it will be fondly remembered.

Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword, Spirit Tracks, Kingdom Hearts: 365/2 Days, NSMB, Ace Attorney Investigations, Phantom Hourglass, Kirby Super Star Ultra, Kingdom Hearts: Re:Coded, and many, many more great games (good times).

That Samus design looks pretty darn ugly, IMO (though the monster designs look pretty good).

Also, given that he was in charge between 2007-2009, I doubt this is 3DS concept art (and certainly not Wii U). If it was indeed intended to be made into a game, the very angular design of Samus screams DS to me.

I've played the demo & really like it, but will probably pick up Urban Trials Freestyle first, since it seems to be the better liked of the two, and is currently on sale dirt cheap.

RR529 commented on Review: Kirby & The Amazing Mirror (Wii U eShop):

Ooh, that's too bad, as I really liked this one.

I have it on my 3DS, and while I couldn't get into it at first (even deleted it), the second time I tried it I really enjoyed it.

Yeah, the map is pretty lame & not all that helpful, so it's not perfect, but I honestly didn't find exploring the world to be all that difficult, and I became addicted to finding all the alternate paths. Also, the backtracking isn't nearly as bad as the review made it out to be, because there are mirrors scattered throughout the world (2 in each area) that directly connect to the main hub room (a fact conveniently ignored in the review). Also, other than the first area, you can complete all the areas in any order you desire, making it one of the most non-linear games I've ever played (even moreso than some Metroid games), which is really cool.

RR529 commented on The Club Nintendo Rewards Are Confirmed for April:

There are some good choices this time, but nothing for me personally, unfortunately.

SMW would have been a definite pick up, but as it's Wii U only, it leaves me out. Mario Golf would be my second pick, but I don't have enough coins for it. The two DSiWare titles just aren't grabbing my attention either.

RR529 commented on Mario Kart Arcade GP DX Now Available To Play ...:

Yeah, as others have said, I've seen commercials for this for about a month. Seems like they're advertising it as their current core attraction.

Oh, and for those of you who don't have a local location, but are seeing the commercials anyway (like @SlayerG). It's probably because they're buying time on a national network (like FX or whatever), and anyone watching that channel will see the commercial, since it's aired nationally.

Don't really have the money (or space) to buy it, but it looks interesting, and the pricing is more than fair.

New, boxed 3DS games go for $40, so at only $30, it's digital only status has already given you a $10 discount.

RR529 commented on Review: Steel Diver: Sub Wars (3DS eShop):

Yeah, this is a really fun game, especially online.

They do need to fix the connection issues though, & I'd love a greater focus on the goofy maps like "Fish Tank", "Hot Springs", & "Swimming Pool" (the more realistic maps are pretty generic, and run together, IMO).

RR529 commented on Review: AeternoBlade (3DS eShop):

Demo seemed fun enough to me, but yeah, not at $15.

A 5 seems about right (which if some of you knew NL's rating policy, is actually "average" instead of "bad").

Good move for them, I suppose.

While I'm a proponent of buying games new when you have the means to do so, I don't have a problem with the used market, as it allows kids (who usually don't have much money) to get into gaming. In fact, if it weren't for the used market, I'd never have gotten into Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, or Ace Combat, for example.

New things this game will have:

  • Giant Enemies/Eggs.
  • Some sort of "binocular booth" that will let you see ahead in the level.
  • Truck Yoshi (which almost seems similar to the DKC minecart segments in a way).
  • While as Helicopter Yoshi, the world will now tilt around you as you turn.

It looks like there's more to it than just a rehash of the old formula, and there's probably more new stuff we don't know about as well.

RR529 commented on Club Nintendo Rewards Updated for January:

@Capt_N, spending coins doesn't affect your chances of hitting Gold or Platinum.

You just have to redeem a total of 300 coins in a year to get Gold. Let's say you earn 200 coins, spend 100, and earn another 100 in a year. Even though you'd end up with 200 coins in your account at the end of the year, since you redeemed a total of 300, you'd still get Gold, despite spending 100 of them.

Nothing for me this time. Oh well, these are nothing but free extras, so it's not that big a deal.

To those complaining, Nintendo is not obligated whatsoever to offer free games. You should be glad they're even doing this at all. If you're not particularly interested in the month's offerings, that's fine, but Nintendo isn't obligated (and shouldn't be expected) to give out the game(s) you want.

Yeah, I only had the money to buy one retail 3DS game this year, and I'm glad it was this.

I love the myriad of characters, beautiful art direction, and stiff challenge (especially later on). Heck, I haven't even gotten any of the DLC, yet I play it regularly.

I'd say it's tied with Tales of the Abyss as my favorite 3DS title.

RR529 commented on Genius Sonority Reconsidering Denpa Men Direct...:

I really enjoyed the first game as it was a very solid (and even challenging later on) JRPG, and it had a ton to offer (I personally think the 40 hours I got out of it was worth the $10).

Despite that I can understand why it didn't sell well. While the RPG gameplay is solid, it won't win over anyone who isn't a fan of the genre already, especially with the divisive (and deceiving) art style. Also, while it undoubtedly has the content to make that $10 worth it, I can understand people not wanting to spend that kind of money on a game they're not sure of.

Haven't played the second yet.

Yep, saw the American one TWICE last night during South Park.

Nintendo must put a lot of advertising into Comedy Central, because I always see at least one Nintendo commercial every time I turn it there (also see the occasional one on Adult Swim).
