Rocky commented on Nintendo Download: 13th June (North America):

Good week of new releases for me. I've got 25 hours on MSF on my 3DS, so I'm sure I'll be happy with the sequel. I've got 31 hours on MM on my 3DS, so I'm sure I'll be happy with the sequel on the Wii U. I've got 7 hours on Mario Picross on my 3DS so I'm pretty sure Picross e will keep me busy as well. Can't go wrong with that trifecta of downloads.

Rocky commented on Talking Point: When StreetPass Reunites Old Fr...:

I love the street pass feature of the 3DS. I've carried mine with me every where since launch day. I don't think I'm going to be able to give it up when the Vita arrives next week. I'll probably end up just carrying my 3DS with me and never playing the Vita because of the street pass feature alone. I can't see myself carrying two portable systems with me all the time (plus a cell phone). Unless the street passes dry up, the 3DS has me hooked.

Rocky commented on Review: Frogger 3D (3DS):

I am really enjoying this game. I was pleasantly surprised by it and expected it to have a lot less depth. It has a ton of levels and each world has a new "skill" to be learned to get through the levels in that world. So, if you are an old-time gamer like me, and you've enjoyed Frogger in the past, you will probably want to give this game a try.

Rocky commented on Review: Tennis (Game Boy):

This is harder than I remember. I just lost 6-0, 6-0 to my opponent on level 1. I don't think I ever even had a lead more than 15-0 at any time in the match.

Rocky commented on Review: Pilotwings Resort (3DS):

@msephton I agree with you, but we've approached it differently. I'm over 5 hours in and have spent a lot of time in free flight mode but struggle with the missions. The missions are a little too hard for my taste, but still the game is a blast. If I ever make it through the missions, I'll probably be up over 20 hours in play time.

Rocky commented on 2011 Release for 3DS is a Move to Avoid Stock ...:

We should have just allowed only Game Informer magazine to review the 3DS. Nintendo would have set the price at $49, with GI giving Nintendo it's usual 3/10 review. And then in 5 years when Microsoft/Sony copy the 3DS design, Game Informer would then give their versions a 10/10 review and the competition can overprice their "new" 5 year-old technology at that time.

Rocky commented on Review: Arcade Hoops Basketball (DSiWare):

This game along with arcade bowling are two of my favorite DSi download games. The progressive mode on both games is addictive and fun. Quick and easy diversions are great on a portable system.

Rocky commented on Review: Robot Rescue (DSiWare):

I love puzzle games and this one is a lot of fun. It makes a nice pair with Mario vs. Donkey Kong, two games that are kind of based on the same concept. Mario is more polished, but also costs 800 points vs. 200 points for this one. But if you love this style of game, a great way to spend 1000 points is on these two games.

Rocky commented on Review: Wii Sports: Resort (Wii):

This is a great game. I just can't understand why Nintendo can release gaming perfection like this, but other developers can't seem to match it. I play a lot of other casual style games on the Wii, but whenever I pop in a new release by Nintendo, it's like I'm playing on a whole different system. The graphics are 100x better, the controls are probably 300x better and the replay value is 500x better. Why can't other developers get this right? I'd give this game a 10/10 after a few days with this game. I'm that gamer that doesn't care about online play, leaderboards, etc. I just want a fun game that doesn't have a lot of flaws. It doesn't get much more fun than this.

Rocky commented on Telltale Games: 'Wii Audience Is Perfect For Us":

The Monkey Island series is not a perfect match for casual gamers. The first chapter, at least, was way too hard and gave no tutorial or prompting for how to progress in the game. You play it and get stuck and never want to go back. That is the opposite definition of a casual game. There have been so many great WiiWare releases for the casual gamer, but this is just not one of them.

Rocky commented on Review: Tales of Monkey Island: Chapter 1 (Wii...:

This game is ridiculously hard. I downloaded it at 5:30pm last night and played it until 10:30pm and got nowhere in the game. 5 hours and I am still in chapter one and feel as though I've made no progress. If someone can play through this game in 3-4 hours without following along with an online help guide, I'd be amazed. This game just seems to be puzzles on top of other puzzles with no story (or logic) to tie the puzzles together. The game "hint" system (worthless) tells you to try "exploring". Duh. I am trying to explore, but every direction is blocked waiting for you to solve another puzzle. Want to talk to more islanders? You guessed it, gotta solve a puzzle ("what's the secret word?"). This is actually fun for some people? This is more frustrating than a final exam in a graduate level calculus class. The bad news is I can't get my 1000 points back, but the good news is my Wii, Remote, and TV are all still working this morning and I didn't bash them all into the sidewalk out in front of my house like I wanted to do last night after "playing" this game.

Rocky commented on Take on Doc Louis in a Club Nintendo Exclusive...:

Before complaining too much about that calendar, consider this: the calendar could very well sell for high dollar on eBay. Most Nintendo maniacs are going to be platinum members and not eligible for the calendar, and yet that will be exactly the target market that will be interested in buying the calendar. Honestly, if Nintendo had given me a choice of all three items, I would have selected the calendar.

Rocky commented on Take on Doc Louis in a Club Nintendo Exclusive...:

I chose the download. I will be buying the hat on eBay in the future and figured I would have a better chance of finding the hat on eBay than finding the download code on eBay (the code is probably a one-time use only code). I will also be buying that calendar on eBay, so any Gold members that don't want the calendar, be sure to order it anyway so you can put it up on eBay and sell it! With the price you'll get on eBay you'll be able to buy at least two of those Maxim calendars.

Rocky commented on Review: Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 (Wii):

@Fleeman - the disc golf absolutely does not suck. It is worth the $50 alone just for the disc golf. Do you even know how to throw the disc? It is a perfect emulation of throwing a frisbee. Probably the best add-on feature for any Wii game I've seen to date.

Rocky commented on Groovin' Blocks Coming To Europe Soon:

TV Show King made this jump to retail and has sold 155,000 retail copies in the US. Not sure if that is considered successful or not, but not a bad number for a retail package that was also offered on WiiWare.

Rocky commented on Review: Groovin' Blocks (WiiWare):

They are actually coming out with a Wii disc version of this game, so if you haven't purchased it yet on WiiWare, you may want to wait for the enhanced version to be released on disc.

Rocky commented on Review: Guitar Hero Metallica (Wii):

I completely agree with this review. This game is packed with lots of extra material and interesting tidbits. Almost like a bonus DVD included with the game, but it is all included on one disc. Song lists are always subject to personal taste, but this GH track list is by far my favorite of any of the releases. Even the non-Metallica tracks offer a good variety of musical style from the past 30 years. I've picked up all of the GH releases to date, and for me, this one has been the best all-around and most fun release so far.

Rocky commented on Excitebots Crashes Out At Retail:

I'm hesitant to buy any new release right now because the prices are dropping so quickly on new releases. If there is a game that I really want, I just wait 2-3 months and pick it up at a discounted price. I will eventually buy ExciteBots, but just not right now.

Rocky commented on Review: Animal Crossing Clock (DSiWare):

I downloaded it. 200 points is nothing, and I can't believe how much complaining is going on over a 200 point download. If you are a fan of Animal Crossing, get the clock, if not, pass on it. I don't understand the Nintendo conspiracy theories over a 200 point download.

Rocky commented on Review: Animal Crossing Calculator (DSiWare):

I think the 5 score is a little tough on it for being what it is. As you described it is a very slick little application and at only 200 points I would call it a must-have for any DSi owner that is a dedicated AC fan.

Rocky commented on Need Some Tetris Lessons?:

I seriously need this for Guitar Hero / Rock Band. I don't think I've ever put that many hours into one game and not really improved much at all. But I still love playing the game. I watch YouTube and wonder HOW are they doing that?!?!

Rocky commented on Review: Magnetica (DS):

I put in way too many hours on this game. It was so addictive. I actually ended up playing it all the way through and completing all of the various play modes. Fortunately, the DS doesn't track hours played on a game like the Wii does. If it did, it would probably be over 50 hours on this game alone. One of my top 10 DS games.

Rocky commented on WiiWare Games Now Available On Amazon:

I don't see a downside to this. The great thing is that Amazon always has sales and specials. I am sure we will soon see a WiiWare special that includes free points or bonus dollars applied to Amazon account for future downloads. Also, if you happen to use the trade-in games feature on Amazon, you can now apply that balance to WiiWare games (assuming they add more than just World of Goo to the catalog).

Rocky commented on Review: Arkanoid DS (DS):

I'm addicted to this game. To be fair, I have always been a fan of breakout style games and this one includes a ton of unlockables, which keep me coming back for more. Lately I haven't been able to put this game down. I also enjoy the strategy side of this game on deciding which power-ups to use and which to avoid depending on what type of "structure" you are trying to destroy. As mentioned, the music is great, and you can unlock a whole slew of different songs and sound effects. Enjoyed the review, glad to see Arkanoid DS getting some attention, even if it isn't the greatest score.

Rocky commented on Review: Fun! Fun! Minigolf (WiiWare):

Carnival Games Mini-Golf is a blast. We play that game all of the time at our house. I'm surprised to hear people bashing it. I was hoping to get this mini-golf game as well, but the review is disappointing and I certainly don't want my mini-golf game to be frustrating. Frustrating does not equal fun, fun!

Rocky commented on Review: Niki – Rock 'n' Ball (WiiWare):

Just from the description, this sounds a lot like a Stafi style game. The Stafi games are some of my all-time favorites, so I'll have to give this a try when it comes to the US.

Rocky commented on Review: Alien Crush Returns (WiiWare):

So there are now three difficulty levels for Story Mode? Normal, Hard, and Insane? Obviously I would have preferred a new stage, but I was hoping for a new difficulty level, so hopefully there is a noticeable difference between hard and insane.

Rocky commented on Review: Alien Crush Returns (WiiWare):

This quote from the ACR web page makes me think we are only getting extra Story Mode stages and not extra Arcade Mode stages:

'" "STORY MODE" has a total of 6 stages, including the bonus stage.
Extra stages are available through Wi-Fi download!
Defeat the aliens that stand in your way to complete every stage!

Three stages are available in ARCADE MODE.
Aim for the High Score and the Top Ranking!"

Rocky commented on Review: Alien Crush Returns (WiiWare):

If they allow you to download the new level to Arcade Mode, they will have to update their online rankings to include level 4. They would probably also have to update vs. mode to include this level. Keeping my fingers crossed!!

Rocky commented on Top 20 WiiWare Games in USA (10th Dec):

I am once again addicted to AC. I actually find the new AC more like the GCN AC and less like AC:WW. I have been addicted to all three of these versions of AC. No predictions on how long I'll be addicted to this one. The only WW game that has been able to pull me away from AC is ACR. Love that game!!
