Re: My Nintendo Discussion!

rjejr

Well this thread seems dead, but I got 60 gold coins for Labo yesterday, bringing my total to 160, so I thought I'd come to visit. MyNintnedo is 90% mobile focused right now but hoping the NSO service makes it a little more Switch focused somehow.

@Octane "To add to the confusion, there's a few games that are digital-only in Europe, but have a physical edition in North America."

Ok, forgot about that, so I'll give you that one.

My 2nd option would be "Nintnedo Switch" and "Switch Indie" if you don't like "Switch eShop" since Indie is pretty synonymous w/ eShop anyway, but then you have to deal with games like "Child of Light" by Ubisoft so that wouldn't be a very smooth division either. But Switch should have more than 1 Channel, the optics are wrong.

Thanks for the MyNintneod link. I was confused yesterday b/c I got 60 gold points for Labo, physical obviously, when I thought it should only be 12 like under the old model, I knew about the 1 cent per 1 gold point change but not about the point increase for physical.

Hopefully at some point MyNintnedo will get Switch worthy. It actually isn't a bad little free side story for people who only play mobile games, the hidden treasures on the DK and FE websites were a fun distraction for a couple of minutes, and Nintendo is really into mobile now w/ SMR, FEH and AC, with more on the way. But they should have called it My Mobile Nintendo and left the switch out of it, it's still insulting to Switch owners. But maybe they'll tie it into NSO and it will get better. Can't get worse.

Thanks again, have fun w/ poor Anti's eyesight, I'm not sure how that guy can even survive on the internet at all to get to NL. Though I do feel him, as a dad I once complained to Ant for having ads for some horrible reality show on the site, some southern redneck version of Jersey Shore, may have been Party Down South. And I don't know if it was him or just coincidence, but a few days later those ads were gone. Then Trump ran for President and I realized I couldn't protect my kids no more. Sad.

Re: Ideas for the site

@Octane Is there a forum subchannel for MyNintendo? I know it's a horrible mess and 90% of the posts would be negative, but I was looking for something about it and wasn't sure where to go.

And sort of related - I agree w/ monkeyboy about Switch getting more Forum Channels. Obviously not a "VC" channel, but splitting up the games into physical and eShop would be nice. There are a dozen or so new eShop games every week, and I don't care about 95% of them, so just having a forum for physical games might appeal to people. (Don't do it for me, I'm not in here that often.) So make it 2, the current Channel "Nintendo Switch" and add a new one "Switch eShop". Hopefully after E3 the Switch one will have more to write about.

Also, as to my earlier question, maybe make a combined Channel for Nintendo Account, MyNintendo and Nintendo Switch Online. You can call it "Tres Nintendos". Or not.

Re: 2018 Switch games

rjejr

I hope we don't have to wait until E3 to get some more game news, I'm ready for a Nintendo Direct in early March. I was in Gamestop yesterday trading in my copy of GT Sport that came with my PSVR headset and I got $20 store credit but I wasn't sure what to use it on. We've already pre-ordered Kirby on Amazon, 20% discount with Prime and my kids each had a $25 GC which basically covered the rest, so it looks like Labo, which we won't get until June when schools out and it's nice enough to build and play with outside since you can't use the TV with the variety pack anyway.

We had company over Saturday and the kids played SSB4U for 6 hours - it was raining all day. My son and I have been playing Horizon: Zero Dawn and PSVR stuff. So we have a Switch which is currently not getting much use except 30 minutes of SMO Luigi's Balloon World and my other son is playing ARMS.

So a ND would be nice. After Kirby it's still three full months until E3, that's too long with no major games to talk about. They could spend all of April talking about Nintendo Labo, and maybe that's the plan, but that's still a limited market it seems. Not sure if waiting until E3 to show off Yoshi, a SSB port and the long completed Pikmin 4 is the way to go.

Now there are still games coming for Switch, DQ11 is still due to be ported and come West, Y's 8 is due out this summer, but I'll probably get it on PS4 as it will be half price by then, Gamefreak will probably announce Pokemon Switch before E3, they usually due stuff on their own in the spring not in an ND, XC2 still has at least 1 big DLC coming, and I believe Mario+Rabbids still has 1 as well - there's some ND filler right there, DLC - and I need to get both of those games when they're done. So Switch isn't barren, it just feels that way for the second half of 2018.

Nintendo might be the #2 publisher behind Bethesda as far as games, but they must be dead last in marketing, advertising and building hype for future games. Though I did see a Switch commercial before Black Panther in a theater on Friday, that was nice, but that was for current games, not future, they aren't terrible on current game marketing, just hyping anything more than a month out.

@Samus7Killer LouieVatton of glass protection

Thanks, I'm more of a Target clearance of glass protection kind of guy though. If Nintneod ever decides to introduce Super Mario Run and other touch focused games on the Switch I might have to consider an upgrade. Well after my 2nd cheap glass screen breaks. Two for $6.85, that'll do nicely.

@Nintendoforlife "the Beilom screen protector"

Thank you for the Amazon link. (I know it was awhile ago, even Prime takes a couple of days.) Got the screen protector in the mail yesterday and it's very nice. I've had a lot of screen protectors in the past but this is my first glass one, I usually get the $1 + $5 shipping really cheap plastic ones. For $6.85 for 2 it's a steal. And I'm sure at some point, when Pokemon releases, we'll have another Switch. And it's just for peace of mind. Not too much use for the touchscreen on the system but watching my 2 kids putting it in and out of the dock, well it hadn't scratched yet, just smudged in a couple of spots, but even without using the touchscreen it still gets touched a lot.

A good investment, if for nothing else than peace of mind, and I place a high value on that.

@Nintendoforlife Hey thanks for that. I'll give it a try later. But between the stupid gold points I'll never use and the screen protector I don't have, well I really need to move on. But first I need like a 2 hour nap. And lunch. And to be ready to set up my 2 sons accounts when they get home from school. More passwords and random letter names to try and recall.

@Nintendoforlife We'll use the case, but it's not that great, it's just red. The normal SMO case is way better. And it was $15 at Target.

No, dont' assume that. I looked all over the MyNintneod website for a link that said "Enter code here" or something along those lines, but I coudlnt' find anything. Ran a Google search, nothing. Checked Nintnedo Account and everything was linked. The code worked, the game downloaded, I played it for 2 ours.

The whole MyNintneod website is kind of lame when it comes to Switch. Here are all the bonus coins I have on Wii U after I signed into a Switch. Shoudln't we get some points for buying a $300 system? Or at least linking to it our NA to it? Viewing the News Channel? It's almost as if MyNintnedo doesn't know the Switch exists. Smart device apps are everywhere.

Ok, so this thread isn't a 1 trick pony -

Used the code to download Mario just after midnight last night, but no gold coins on My Nintendo. It is the same account linked up, the website even says I signed into my account on Switch last night. Is Nintendo penalizing us for paying $60 for the game in a bundle, no gold coins? That would seem really rotten of them, the game obviously cost me $60 b/c it was bundled w/ a $300 system and a $20 case for $380, there was zero savings, the game was $60. Not sure what I would do with the gold coins, but still.

@Nintendoforlife Thanks, I'll probably pick one up eventually, I'm sharing the console with my 2 sons so it's going to be in and out of the dock and passed around a lot. I was kind of torn on the bundle or the system, game and case separalty, would ahve saved me $20 at least, but the screen protector cost made me lean towards the bundle.

@Tasuki Well it is multiplatform, but $20 Snake Pass is on sale for $10 until Monday.

@Octane - Is there a "Switch games on sale" forum thread in here somewhere or is that against site policy? I looked but couldn't find one. The weekly updates always just have a link as it posts before the sales are announced. Would be nice to have them all in 1 place.

@JaxonH New day, new power adaptor on clearance at Target you aren't going to approve of.

https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LZHRYL4/ref=ask_ql_qh_...

Here's the only #'s I could find. 12V @ 1.67a would be around that 18-19watt number I keep reading for the Switch.

Power Output Maximum: 27.5 W
USB Type-C: 5.1 VDC, 3 A / 5.5 VDC, 3 A / 12 VDC, 1.67 A
USB Type-A: 5.1 VDC, 1.5 A

Re: Nintendo Switch: USB-C and Portable Battery Recommendations

@JaxonH Thanks for all that. I put the Aukey charger and 9' cable - I figure 9' for $10 is better than 6' for $8 - on my Amazon wishlist. My kids will hold it, no tripod, they've managed all these years w/ DS and 3DS.

Do you own your own meter like this?

https://www.amazon.com/Soondar%C2%AE-USB-Voltage-Current-Mult...

I'm thinking about buying a tester now just out of curiosity. We have 4 of those plug adaptors plugged into a power bar - my phone, my wife's phone, my tablet, my wife's tablet - b/c I've always been afraid I'd mess up a device by using the wrong one, they are all 5v but a little different in amps .85, 1.0, 1.0 and 1.55. If you think my new charger is only going to get 1.5ax5v=7.5w maybe my 1.55a phone charger will do the same slow 8 hour Switch charge at 7.5w?

I checked my Target receipt and I have until Nov 12 to return the charger, so I think I'll get a tester - for science - get my Switch on the 27th and see how it all goes. Maybe I can replace all 4 of my current phone/tablet charger w/ the new one, it was on clearance for $8.38 and came w/ the 2 cables, I figure it's almost worth the price for the two 6' cables alone, the Amazon Fire tablet came w/ a 3' cord, it's too short to use it while it charges.

Thanks again for everything. When I check everything out w/ the tester I'll let ya know how it all went.

@JaxonH Soooooo, I just bought a 5v - 3amp USB charger at Target -

https://www.target.com/p/type-c-micro-usb-quick-charge-3-0-2-...

Since it's USB A to C should I worry about frying the Switch? The adapter itself is weird, it says:
Output - 3.6v-6v = 3a or 6v-9v=2a or 9v-12v=1.5 amp. Which is weird if USB A isn't capable of doing 3A.

There is a Qualcom 3 stamp on the bottom, so it is 2 year old tech.

https://www.qualcomm.com/news/releases/2015/09/15/qualcomm-in...

You think I'm gonna burn out the Switch? Or will it just take longer to charge while my kids are playing it? I bacialy bought it just for my kids to be able to play while ti's plugged in in handheld mode, I'll mostly be playing in the dock. My car has built in 1amp USB which I dotn' think will charge it at all but I'm hoping will let my kids play it in the car. We have a few trips coming up and I'm ntoplannign on bringing the dock.

Somebody actually tested Qualcomm 3.0 quick charger, looks harmless I guess.

@JaxonH Thanks. Will probably get 64GB, I think that will last us awhile. Hopefully it's easy to transfer over if we need a bigger card in a few years, though I'm also thinking my kids get their own Switch in a year or two when it hits $199 for some type of portable version, so I won't need a bigger card, they will. Re: The Nintendo Switch Thread

@JaxonH Funny timing, I was reading over your thread yesterday about the portable power bricks, very informative. My car has USB but it's only 1amp which is kinda useless for the Switch, and I've blown out the fuses in my cigarette lights twice now, so something's up with the wiring there but I'm not paying to fix it. You ever come across a car holder like the one in the first Switch ad so my kids can set it up between them in the car? I found one for $59 on Amazon but that's not happening. Don't see the point in 1 on a headrest, kids can just hold it.

Have you been telling people to pick up a microSD card? I'm sure you're not pointing them to your $200 one, that would scare off a few customers. I'm probably going 32GB, whatever I find at clearance on Target, they always have a few. We buy most games on cart, so 64GB total should hold us over for awhile.

Your going to be bored at Swtichworld once everyone owns a Switch, you'll have nobody left to sell them too.

Re: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

@shadow-wolf The story was typical - let's get everybody together across dimensions to fight the common enemy - trope but I liked it better than the other Dynasty Warriors type games which to me dont' even have a story. At least this one had the Zelda aesthetic w/ music and such. So it was't a good story, but it moved stuff along w/ some cut scenes scattered here and there. I like a cut scene every now and again.

Re: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

rjejr

@shadow-wolf Can't recall what I said about Hyrule Warriors but it is 1 of my favorite games on Wii U. Some caveats I'd like to make - I don't like Zelda games normally and I don't like difficult games, I like games that let me kick butt on everything in my path. I also like story driven straight forward games w/ branching paths more than just kicking butt for no reason. And HW did have a lot of options for the money, besides the story w/ branching paths it had all of those little maps and some challenges. I did buy the season pass but I can't recall how much use I got out of it. Playing as a huge monstrous Ganon was fun for a bit, that might have been only in the DLC. Game also had options in that different players w/ different weapons played differently but it wasn't overwhelming, I don't like micromanagement, just variety. I do think it played pretty well too, but then again I like simple button mashing, I'm not one for quick time events and rhythm games, I'm not quick and I have no rhythm. But there was a little variety along w/ the constant button mashing to mix things up a little bit. It wasn't deep and it wasn't complicated, it was just fun and a little interesting.

@JaxonH I saw the Splatoon 2 bundle get restocked at Walmart - shows up on Twitter occasionally - but I'm waiting on Mario. Got my $50 Gamestop credit card bill statement in the mail today. And while you probably can't take all the credit, we both know you got the ball rolling. If you hadn't brought the Switch in in the first place it's possible nobody else there would have purchased one yet. So you may not have twisted any arms, but you showed them the light. You should dress up as a Joycon for the office Halloween party. Just make sure it's the left one, the right one puts the joystick in an awkward spot.

Re: The PlayStation 4 fan thread.

rjejr

@JaxonH Well if ya don't need it then you don't need it. I don't play online at all, but I got it for my kid mostly for DBXV and whatever else he plays online. I'm not even sure I know what he needs it for, he doesn't play anything I follow, mostly Rocket League and Overwatch. I'm guessing you need it for Overwatch. I think I make most of my money back on PS+ sales discounts though, saving a few $ here and there since I was about 3 years behind launch. And we still have 2 PS3 going, so I'm not losing out.

And if everyone you know is going to be playing on XBox, well there ya go. What website do you use for Xbox info? I've been using XboxAcheivments but I don't really post or read comments, just do it for the news. Won't matter in a month anyway.

Re: The PlayStation 4 fan thread.

@JaxonH Well I can't argue with any of that reasoning. And you know I certainly would if I could. Funny, last night I was on Xbox watching tv and saw you logged in playing Marvel vs Capcom, then I played AC: Freedom Cry - well I tried, really steep learning curve for somebody who has never played an AC game before - and you were on the PS4 too. I tried to figure out what you were doing but if there is a way I'm not sure what it is.

So, do you not have PS+ then? I know Live is always on sale, and a better service then PS+, but you seem like somebody who would always be a PS+ sub anyway so the price difference really wouldn't matter. Also, don't you think the MH:World online community would be better on PS4? Has Xbox ever had a MH game before? Will anybody who owns an Xbox even buy it? That's not me arguing, just simply asking questions.
