Re: Guide: Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition - All Weapons And How To Unlock Them

rjejr

@Yosheel "The amiibo will give you weapons for their characters though, but only after you've unlocked them."

So, first you have to unlock them by playing, and only then the amiibo will give you more of them? That's odd, but something I guess. And I never did play the 3DS version so I have no idea how that game worked. Probably should have looked into it.

And yeah, I had a feeling those websites were a bit sketchy. Or at the very least outdated.

Re: Nintendo's E3 2018 Presentation Gets An Official Title

rjejr

@NEStalgia I dont' think it's a port for various reasons.

One, only really Nintneod gets to call it a port, and they won't. I'm not even sure they ever even called MK8 Deluxe a port of MK8, they called it MK8D. Well maybe they called it a port but I never heard it. They didn't call Spaltoon 2 a port of Spaltoon 1 but it looks like a port to me. And the more they add the more it looks like a port. Have they called HW a port? Captain Toad?

Ok lets say all of those are ports, except Spaltoon 2, it's just understood that they are, so next.

What's included. Or more precisely what isn't included. A port is usually the same game w/ some stuff added maybe. Here's what I think they'll drop.

1. amiibo support, b/c they don't sell them anymore. Why promote what people can't get? And that was a big part of SSBU promotion.
2. 8 player, b/c 8 player in tabletop mode is impossible. And how many people own 8 Joycon?
3. Mii fighters. And all of their 50c DLC.
4. Miiverse level. And anything else Miiverse related.

So before anything gets added, that's all cut. Can you cut that much and still call it a port? Half a port maybe.

Then there's stuff they'll add. We already know about the Inklings but there will be more new characters and levels as well. IT's just not going to look like the same game. Plus if they mix and match some stuff from the Wii U and 3DS versions it wont' be the same as either 1 of those. So it's not a port any more than those 3rd Pokemon games were, Crystal, Emerald, Platinum, back before they started making dual sequels. At least I've never heard of those 3rd games referred to as ports.

So you get cut stuff, added stuff, and stuff from 2 games mixed and matched. Not sure that's a port.

Now I used to think it was a port if it used the same engine, but apparently other games have used the same engine - Galaxy 1 & Galaxy 2, Zelda OoT and MM - so just using the same engine doesn't make it a port.

And after thinking about it more this week I fear for it being a subscription service game, w/ only a few characters, maybe 24, available day 1 w/ the rest being doled out 2 every 2 weeks or something. Works for Splatoon and ARMS and DB, why not SSB?

Now w/ all that said, I do think there are people who will call it a port anyway, just b/c, but I don't think Nintendo will be one of those people.

My real concern is will this question even be answered by the time E3 is over? I'd like to think so, btu we'll see.

One thing we do know for sure, w/ those 8 "Pro" players in the invitational, I'm sure they'll be able to say if it plays like the Wii U version or a new version. Even if SSBU isn't their thing and they play Brawl or Melee instead surely they know how the U game plays and this is a port or not. Unless Nitneod is paying them all to say it's anew game.

Re: Guide: Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition - All Weapons And How To Unlock Them

rjejr

While it's nice to not see amiibo required to unlock things in game, it would make a nice shortcut for people who already have the amiibo. Supposedly there was amiibo support in game - announced back in Februray - do amiibo unlock any of these early?

https://www.destructoid.com/hyrule-warriors-switch-will-have-updated-amiibo-support-486484.phtml

http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2018/02/05/hyrule-warriors-definitive-edition-supports-breath-of-the-wild-amiibo.aspx

Here's a supposed list, from back in March, of what amiibo unlock which weapon but honestly I've never heard of the site before now so who knows how accurate it is.

https://www.imore.com/every-amiibo-you-want-hyrule-warriors-nintendo-switch

If there are amiibo weapons in game then this article should have at least mentioned that's an option. And it not, well mention that too.

Super sayian god super saiyan Goku?

I appreciate the idea of free characters, but the concept doesn't really work for a game we finished in 6 hours and have little reason to go back to. If Nintendo wants to do ongoing free characters right hopefully they'll implement them into a game where they belong, like SSB.

That's so Nitnedo, even the name of their pre-made game trailer montage has to be a secret.

I still can't believe they're calling it "SS Bros." though. They already have a game w/ that exact name, it's on the N64. Not that "SSB Switch" is the stuff of legend, but try something. I liked both Melee and Brawl, why move away from that? Did their dictionary run out of verbs or adjectives or whatever?

Re: Get In The Holiday Mood With Bandai Namco's Go Vacation For Switch

rjejr

Had this on Wii. Played it a bit multiplayer with the family, it was a fun 4 player game that let each player go off and explore on their own split screen and build and decorate their own house. When 1 of the 4 came across a minigame all 4 players would join in.

The thing I most remember about it though was the listing on Amazon and elsewhere said "online play" so I preordered it so my kids could play with their distant cousins, but it didn't have online anything. Amazon eventually took that line out but it left a bad taste in my mouth none the less.

Don't know what the price will be, or if Miis will still be in it, but if you want a fun little minigame collection for the kids it's not bad. Who knows, it might even motivate them to go outside.

Re: Nintendo's E3 2018 Presentation Gets An Official Title

rjejr

NDE318 makes a nice license plate. ‚ėļ

I'm glad it has a name so we can all refer to it by the same name, unlike SSB which currently gets listed differently all the time, w/o the Super in this article, though it's most frequently used name is that of an N64 game. Which didn't work out too poorly for GoW which goes by the name of a PS2 game. Hopefully Nintendo makes it official at E3, whatever it is.

Re: Video: Adventure Awaits In This Latest Mario Tennis Aces Trailer

@BezBot Just wanted to say thanks again. I checked my games and got another 100 gold points today, 60 for Kirby, 40 for Sonic Forces, so I'm up to 260 now. Which would only be $2.60 if I spent it but I'm going to hold out hope that by years end, after the online service kicks in, we'll get some good discounts or DLC to purchase on Switch. I'd take a theme.

Re: Okami HD Release Date Revealed For Japan

rjejr

@sinalefa "GOTY awards back in the day."

So did Mario 64 and Zelda OoT but I'm not spending any time playing either of them today when I could be playing Odyssey and BotW instead. Or even Galaxy and TP. Okami was strange and unusual enough for me to be timeless, RE4 had many games before and after. Not saying it shoudln't be ported or played, just don't view it as classic as Okami. I'd rather see Parasite Eve get the longevity treatment. It was a RE clone w/ some flaws but it had some great early use of CGI and a very unusual story. Though I am biased b/c it's the first "modern" game I played, not counting my misspent adolescent years playing Pacman and Joust, and it takes place in NY. The sequel was a straight up RE clone, and it was horrible. I just pretend it doesn't exist.

Re: Okami HD Release Date Revealed For Japan

rjejr

@sinalefa "Both are classics and deserve it. Kamiya was on a roll back then."

We'll I'd agree Okami is a "Classic" b/c it is still to this day 1 of a kind, but RE4? It may be the last good RE or the best RE, but there are so many RE games, and so many clones, does 4 really stand out that much to be considered a "Classic"? I only played the first 15 minutes or so, could never get past that first mob rush in the village. I was told years later I needed to ring a bell, or stay alive until a bell wrung, or something, but I never stayed alive for more than 5 minutes. Maybe if it gets a Switch port I should play it.

@chardir "little Linktocat is smiling"

Really? I don't think so, all I see is sad lost puppy anime eyes. Though I suppose if I saw a larger version first and he was smiling in it then maybe I could see a happy kid playing dress up being a knight, but all I see in this pic is a sad lost boy.

Sorry, no offense meant, that's just what I see. But what do I know, I have a frog playing a banjo.

Re: You Can Reserve Your Chance To Play Smash Bros. Switch At This Year's E3

rjejr

This will probably be the first year w/ a significant number of Switch at E3, couldn't have been too many last year so soon after launch. I know there have always been Nintnedo and Sony handhelds there but Switch is closer to a portable home console than any of those, could add an extra dimension to the expo.

Theoretically Nintneod could let every Switch owner download the SSB demo and play on their own console, build in a 3 day self-destruct time limit like a lot of their other demos have had. Why wait in line at all?

@Phin68 "Test Smash before launch"

Test Smash about a week after paid Nintendo Switch Online goes live seems like an easy way for Nintendo to get people to pay up. Otherwise it's possible they don't get too many people to sign up until SSB releases later in the year. Well except in Japan where they will all sign up day 1 to continue playing Spaltoon 2.

Re: Chill Out And Unwind With The Joy-Con Flipping Power Of Zen Bound 2

rjejr

@ThanosReXXX "crossing/closing off sections"

Yeah I remember games like that too, always fun, but your names are different than my names. Mine usually involved trucks or outer space alien beetles moving along the lines or some such, having to gain 80% of the area or something.

But that said, neither the bird nor the turtle has areas filled in between the string, the color is simply below the lines. If the area filled in when string crossed to make an area that would work for my brain though, but like this it doesn't. If they just colored the string, that's all I ask.

Re: Rumour: Pokémon Switch News Could Be Coming In The Next Few Weeks

rjejr

@westman98 Well can I at least hope you are wrong, just on the basis of those names - as registered in the other thread, which I actually thought we were in - being horrible. Not that red & green or B&W are all that original, but having main games named after a 2 year old mobile game is pretty pathetic. Even if it were Pokemon I Choose Piakachu or Pokemon I Choose Eevee, as bad as those sound, that would be better and more in keeping with the brand.

Well anyway, I do feel we wont' have long to wait, Gamefreak will say something before the month is out, I don't think they ever wait until E3.

Re: Rumour: Pokémon Switch News Could Be Coming In The Next Few Weeks

rjejr

@westman98 "The game will be a core Pokemon RPG from GameFreak, not some spinoff."

That's pretty sure sounding based on a rumour. Not that I don't make wild predictions all of the time, but do you know something we dont' know?

For all we know it's a 2D riding smashing game like Gamefreak's Tembo, only with Pikachu and Eevee.

Re: Chill Out And Unwind With The Joy-Con Flipping Power Of Zen Bound 2

rjejr

@ThanosReXXX oops, missed you, or you ninja'd me, sorry. But as I just said to the other person, I don't see any beads or pins on the bird or turtle, just string.

The bird at 0:12 it's hard to see any color being added at all honestly, it's just there under the string, but for the turtle starting at 0:30 you can clearly see near the end at 0:33 the string touching the turtle and color being added, and it looks like the color is simply coming from the string touching it, nothing else.

Now maybe there is a reason this is happening, like the string is wet and the objects change color when they get wet, but that doesn't keep my eyes from seeing what looks like a dry brown twine changing a dry brown wood turtle into white paint appearing out of thin air.

Re: Chill Out And Unwind With The Joy-Con Flipping Power Of Zen Bound 2

rjejr

@KoopaTheGamer "it's pretty obvious"

Well I think that's what is supposed to be happening, but I don't think it's obvious. Go back and watch the beginning again. I can't see any pins or anything on the bird, the color just seems to appear under the string. Same for the turtle a little later in. No pins, no beads, just string and color.

The pins do pop, that is obvious, and the beads on the string pop as well on the duck, but on the bird and turtle the color just seems to appear under the string.

Apologies, I probably could have been clearer about that in my initial post.

Re: Random: Ariana Grande Has Recreated Her Single 'No Tears Left To Cry' Using Nintendo Labo

rjejr

@Sir_JBizzle Thanks for all of that, never did find it, probably b/c I never looked, but that sounds fair enough to me. It's a show airing 'round midnight, it's not like they are trying to pull one over on kids during Sesame Street or something. Sounds like he said about what I expected him to say, he was basically doing a promo spot for Labo, and his audience knows that.

Not sure how much it was his idea and how much it was Nintnedo's but I believe he's an actual Nintendo fanboi so he had no qualms about doing it either way. A lot of his childlike enthusiasm has to be fake, nobody is that happy, cheerful and enthusiastic all of the time, but I do think he has a soft spot for Ntinedo and was excited to do the skit.

Re: Chill Out And Unwind With The Joy-Con Flipping Power Of Zen Bound 2

rjejr

You know, watching that trailer that's actually not as stupid as I thought it was going to be. It's actually not a bad concept at all. Not a fan of how the actual game works though. It's like playing Spaltoon and pointing your weapon and making pew pew noises and then ink just appears on the ground. The color isn't even the same color as the string. It just makes no sense. Even if the color is coming out of the pin and not the string, which it may be, you can't tell.

I know it's just a mobile game, so you can't expect much, but I think it could be an enjoyable puzzler if the physics looked like what my brain wants to see.

Re: Super Smash Bros. Switch Is Playable At Special Events In Japan Next Month

rjejr

Had a discussion with my kids in the car about how many characters would be available at release, how many available later.

If this were a port, that's 58 day 1. Maybe some locked behind challenges but all there for the taking. That's a lot of characters day 1 in the time of DLC.

I guessed 12 day 1, like the original game, b/c so far this game has the same name, and gives them plenty to add later, maybe in a season pass, maybe free, maybe with amiibo, or maybe a little all of the above.

My kid guessed 40. I guess he figured that was a good day 1 number based on SSBU with a little room to grow.

We talked about it and compromised on 24 as a number that would make people happy day 1 yet give them plenty to look forward to as DLC.

The more I hear about this game being playable and ready in 2018 the smaller I think the release day roster is, the more DLC there will be. And I already think some will be dropped anyway, like the Miifighters, those are gone.

So I really don't think this game is a port, as some people seem to think based on the turnaround time, to me the turnaround time means it's a small game day 1, the rest to follow. See SSBU, Spaltoon and ARMS. Even MK8 took awhile to be finished.

So the good news is - it's not a port - the bad news it - it's not going to be a full game day 1. Which will be great for a lot of you who like that kind of thing, but doesn't seem right for a fighting game if your main only gets added later, you'll have to git gud real fast and play catch up. But that's the way this is starting to feel to me, slow drip. And that's what fighters do these days - see DBXV and DBFZ.

To be fair the 15 characters in Mario Tennis Aces is clouding my judgement at the moment. Seeing that bracket of 16 w/ Mario repeated at 1 and 16 kind of stuck w/ me. Hopefully SSB is 40, but 24 seems likely with what I know right now. Why only 8 people for SSB Tournament at E3, why not make a huge 64 player tournament out of it? Or at least 16 or 32. Not enough playable characters perhaps?

Re: Domains For Pokémon Let's Go Pikachu And Pokémon Let's Go Eevee Appeared!

rjejr

@MrGawain Yesterday, not 3 years ago, maybe you are reading the dates wrong?

My guess would be the names were jumped on by trolls responding to the rumours but @FragRed seems to think CSC is Nintneod' go to for domain registration so that's good enough for me.

I think these are real spin-off games set for this year, not the mainline games. May even be on 3DS, not Switch. Having another game named Pokemon Go on mobile would be kind of stupid.

I think these are going to be the equivalent of licensed kids games like Hello Kitty Kart Racing if those names hold up.

Re: Rumour: Pokémon Switch News Could Be Coming In The Next Few Weeks

rjejr

I can understand why people might jump to the conclusion of "Pokemon Go" b/c of that "Go" in the title but there are still so many other things it can be, Pokemon is not just main line games and or Go, it's not either or by a wide margin.

My first thought was a 2D sidescroller on the 3DS b/c of the ! like "Hey! Pikmin". Chibi-Robo had a similar 2D sidescroller. As are most 3DS Kirby games. So I think a 2D side scroler, or even a pair of them, that started on the 3DS but have bene moved to the Switch is/are possible.

Also, I've been waiting for Pokepark 3 since finishing Pokepark 2 on the Wii. Pokepark was really a boring basic game but Pokepark 2 got a lot right. IT was a fun JRPG like game that had a nice after game. So I'm good if this is Poekpark 3.

There have also been the series of Rumble games. This doesn't feel like those, but it could be an offshoot of those as they were more actiony than turn based.

Then of course there are the Ranger and Mystery Dungeon games. I've never played those and honestly can't say much about them other than they aren't considered mainline but there are several of them, so this could be like those.

So I think jumping to the conclusion that it's Poekomon Go on Switch is missing out on a lot of other game types Pokemon have already appeared in.

Re: Video: Adventure Awaits In This Latest Mario Tennis Aces Trailer

rjejr

@BezBot Well I didn't miss it entirely, just somehow missed the gold point change. I knew about the 1c per point, didn't realize they raised the physical purchase. Which I should have known when we registered the physical copy of Kirby Star Allies, but I think I missed it b/c we were too busy playing it. The MyNintnedo points history lists the date of all of my gold point additions, as few as they are, but it doesn't list the game name. It does list if it's physical or digital, so I should be able to figure it out, but we got a bunch of games for Christmas so I wasn't sure which points went to what game, and ARMS in January.

Funny, I just finished asking someone were the MyNintendo Channel or subchannel was in the forums b/c I coudlnt' find one. Maybe if I had I would have figured this out before now.

Thanks again for all your help. Who knows, now with all of those gold points piling up maybe we will get something good to spend them on. Well at least the people who buy digitally should be able to rack up some points in no time. I'm looking at 160 w/ 6 or 7 games on cart. Maybe I forgot more than just Kirby though, I'll check in the morning, maybe it will be a windfall?

Re: Video: Adventure Awaits In This Latest Mario Tennis Aces Trailer

rjejr

@patbacknitro18 "God I miss Club Nintendo"

You and me both. Maybe they'll start selling Mario Tennis Aces DLC characters for 300 gold points each. I got 60 gold points today from Labo, only another $240 worth of games to go.

Wow, I just realized I got 60 gold points for a $70 retail game, it should have only been about 12 gold points for physical, that's what we got for ARMS. I guess Nintneod values cardboard more than carts. Or maybe just b/c it isn't available digitally. Still I'll take it. Thanks for the Club Nintendo reminder of better days.

Re: Video: Adventure Awaits In This Latest Mario Tennis Aces Trailer

rjejr

@BezBot Ahhh. Well thank you for the clarification of my misunderstanding.

I do think you are right about it being a little late for an amiibo announcement, only E3 being a week before release makes me hesitant to rule it out completely, though I do think it is very unlikely at this point. You know, the way Nintendo handles amiibo it's going to be hard to know when the last ones are, unless they really come out and say - "no more amiibo after this, these are the last ones". Not that I think they are done yet, but it's hard to know, after the SSB line finished there really hasn't been a definable pattern. I do think we'll get more amiibo though. I was surprised Kirby Star Allies didn't get any. I do think Yoshi could get more, even though the last game got them as well. Or maybe Pikmin or Pokemon on Switch when those games are fully announced. But it is probably too late for Mario tennis.

Re: Random: Ariana Grande Has Recreated Her Single 'No Tears Left To Cry' Using Nintendo Labo

rjejr

@NEStalgia "And neglected to mention the sponsor status of Labo to make it look like it wasn't a promotion."

But did you see the actual episode to come to that conclusion? I looked online for it but can't find the entire segment. I suspect he started this segment with - "Nintneod gave us this to show you" which to me would qualify as a disclaimer, but this vid only starts after that. It may even continue with "thanks again to Ntinedo for giving us these Labo kits and showing us how to use them". I'll find the full segment eventually.

Re: Video: Adventure Awaits In This Latest Mario Tennis Aces Trailer

rjejr

@N1ntendodo "Why would we pay an "entry fee" just to compete for those things?"

I don't know, I just know a lot of games come with paid DLC these days, and some of them come with free DLC. And Nintendo seems to like to wait until just before a game releases before they announce the paid DLC. So it's possible Ntinedo would have some characters you earn for free in tournaments and some you buy. And as they've shown with both Mario Kart and SSB they are willing to add in non-Mario characters. And with only 15 characters in the game to start that leaves plenty to sell later on and give some away free in torunaments.

And if our rackets are going to break in game and we lose the game if we don't have enough, well I seriously doubt Ntinedo would charge us by the racket, that would be pay-to-win in a $60 game, but they could sell racket skins to put on those extra racket lives.

They also haven't mentioned any amiibo for this game, and most Mario related games do seem to get amiibo - Odyssey, Mario Maker, Mario Party. Mario Sports on 3DS got amibo cards. It's easy fro me to envision a Mario amiibo holding a tennis racket. So I could see them announcing the paid DLC and the amiibo at the same time. Though ti better be soon if there are amiibo, game is out in a month.

Oh, this is the ND video I watched, you may have been referring to a different one.

Re: Video: Adventure Awaits In This Latest Mario Tennis Aces Trailer

rjejr

Any word yet on a season pass or DLC? I can imagine free ongoing racket skins like in ARMS or Splatoon, or paid DLC characters like SSB or a season pass like Mario + Rabbids with a new playable Luigi's Story.

If on release day there's still no word of paid DLC maybe we'll pick it up.

Story mode has a Subspace Emissary feel, maybe it will be a crossover w/ SSB? Would be interesting if all of their compilation character games had a crossover story mode.
