RetroGBHippie92 commented on Poll: Do You Follow and Watch Rival Console Re...:

I'm with everyone who's sticking with Nintendo, it just goes to show you have to take a risk when it comes to buying and owning a new games system, whether it has a good or bad outcome is dependant all on the software and the support.
I've never really cared about Xbox one bit, I know they cater to a specific audience, but that audience can sometimes be the most obnoxious group of people you'll ever meet because they won't care about your PS4, your Nintendo 3DS or even your Wii U, so really I've got nothing to lose with this console reveal, in fact I've got everything to gain.
I bet you Nintendo will take advantage of this and bring out the big guns because they have so many good games they've already announced and so many more to be revealed, PLUS they ain't doing all the reveals at E3, yeah they'll have a presence there, but they have Nintendo Directs now and E3 is almost irrelevant, good luck Microsoft (you're gonna need it).

@P-Gamer-C Your opinion is valid, but I think people who like Nintendo are gonna be happy with a Wii U, you're saying it's a paper weight right? Well wrong, it's a paper weight that can play mother-loving SUPER METROID, not to mention this paper weight is getting 3-5 Nintendo Directs before, during and after E3 and we are getting some serious news on great games. So I'd be careful to accuse the Wii U of being an office product, it may just make the Xbox One look like a fancy painted brick.

I don't understand why Australia doesn't have Shantae: Risky's Revenge, Europe has it but Wayforward didn't bother releasing it simutaneously here. i know you can just change eshop regions and download it, but I don't really wanna have to do that. Now wayforward wants to bring the original out on the VC, WTF Wayforward??

@BossBattles makes a fair point, I'm with him on having fun, for example I'm playing both my DSi and 3DS at the moment, but despite the "performance" of the DSi compared to the 3DS, I'm having a lot more fun with my DSi.
But then again I love my 3DS and it's the latest Nintendo handheld, but I can't not be blamed for comparing apples and apples and not apples and oranges.

I've been holding out to try Game Gear games, I never owned one and I don't think they sold them in my country, either that or they were just like the PSP (not as popular or well supported). I of course opted for Gameboy because it was the first handheld I saw, speaking of gameboy, why hasn't nintendo been so quiet with those releases, maybe we have all the good titles, anyone think of a reason?

@Rawk_Hawk Yeah I'm with you, I just Loooooooove my Metroid!! I bet that game without a walkthrough first time, it wasn't that hard, now If I played Contra, I'm sure with a bit of practice i could beat it without the Konami Code.
@younglink1990 You're right, it ain't hard.
@HeatBombastic Wow jokes on you dude, sounds like you use walkthroughs, at least more often than I do, don't deny it. No really, my 15 year old brother is part of the same generation that everyone here is complaining about, I know what I'm talking about. Also get back under your bridge, troll.

RetroGBHippie92 commented on Miiverse: Super Metroid - Too Taxing For Today...:

On my first playthough of Super Metroid, I figured out Wall Jumping all on my own. I've never used Walkthroughs unless I can't use my noggin to figure it out first, most of the time if there's a problem I'll spend at least 1/2 an hour trying everything, If there isn't anything that isn't blatantly obvious, then THAT is when I'll use one. Fortunately, most of the time I figure whatever it is out and therefore no walkthrough or hand-holding required.

Now the problem I see here is, is that todays kids are stupid and lazy. They've never been challenged because all they play is Halo and Call of Duty, I've never played those games, if at all no great amount of mind-numbing time, so the difference? I'm a better player because I play games that allow thinking it over instead of just tapping and shooting. The people who make games like COD or Halo generally don't want you to think, everything has to be violent to be fun and I'm ashamed to be near people who call themselves gamers who dislike games just because the graphics suck or the level is to hard (or whatever lame excuse that is just full of plain laziness).

OK so TL:DR, long story short, I know I wasn't born in the 80s or grew up along the NES/SNES, but even a guy like me can sit down and figure it out and show some initiative. I'm not a teenager any more, but even when I was that age I could figure puzzles and s**t out, so I guess kids are a bit thick, if only there was a way....

I'm always excited for Nintendo Directs, but isn't E3 next month? I thought they were going to do them around E3, it seems a little premature if you ask me. But then again, the Wii U is in need of rescuing, lets hope that Nintendo at least makes Earthbound available on the Virtual Console either after these Nintendo Directs, or during E3.

RetroGBHippie92 commented on UK Mainstream Newspaper Declares 3DS The "Best...:

@Placlu I invested heavily in the 3DS when it came out, but many of the launch titles weren't particularly up to the standard we know today. Super Street Fighter IV wan't a perfect port, but it was good for the on-the-go SF fan, Nintendogs+cats was ok, but there weren't that many changes from the original version other than the addition of cats and Rayman 3D was just an enhanced port of the Dreamcast version of Rayman 2 (which I enjoyed but got mediocre reviews due to being a port-of-a-port). These are the titles I got at launch obviously, but it goes to show your opinion can change dramatically once the good titles are all continuously being released, each a month at a time.

Today, I am far happier with the quality and we are continually getting better with Nintendo First Party titles, but still not quite with most third party games.

@domdom87 Yes, I believe so, talk about being hypocritical, now it seems they actually favour it over the Vita. I guess this can all be seen as a good thing, but I don't know...

RetroGBHippie92 commented on UK Mainstream Newspaper Declares 3DS The "Best...:

@ferthepoet Yes and No. I love the DS, it's one of my favourite systems, but the 3DS is terrible at playing DS titles IMO, I don't like how Nintendo didn't get the resolution correct when the original 3DS came out and wasn't surprised when I got my XL. The one thing I hate is the resolution because it makes it blurry, if they had got that right in the first place, I'd be more inclined to agree with you.

RetroGBHippie92 commented on UK Mainstream Newspaper Declares 3DS The "Best...:

I'm not quite sure the 3DS has attained this kind of level JUST yet, but I do have to admit the 3DS has many great games, most notably first-party offerings.
The 3DS hasn't become the machine I'd had hoped it'd be by now, as I had hoped we would've had more RPGs in the second year of it's life, too bad we haven't had much news on Square Enix's release schedule, hopefully E3 will generate more on this side of the 3DS' library.
As for Tabloids, I don't trust 'em, I've never read one in my life but I'm not starting now, isn't The Sun responible for that phone hacking scandal? Yeah I wouldn't take to kindly to them either way though.

@MeWario I thought the same thing too, it's a lose-lose situation, If we download from our own server we have very little choice and in turn no one cares to download much because of it and if we download from the Europe server, we risk games making it to our own region. The whole situation around the Australian Ratings is still brassing me off and the fact that both AU and NZ have Taxes surrounding video game sale etc annoys the hell outta me. Make it Stop!!! :(

RetroGBHippie92 commented on Australia rejoice! Mighty Switch Force! Hyper ...:

@lazyinsu We share the same problem, I can't believe devs decide to do this to our region all the time. The rest of the world doesn't know or care when we don't get certain games localised and we suffer quietly because devs can't be bothered taking the risk or the same effort to release games on time or at all.
If devs care more about Europe and America, then I'll just import and download from those regions.

RetroGBHippie92 commented on Review: Super Mario World (Wii U eShop / Super...:

@Moshugan There is already a remake of Super Mario 64 dude, It's called Super Mario 64 DS and I think you can still get it. While it improves on the graphics department and being able to play as luigi, wario and yoshi, the controls aren't as perfect because you have to play with a D-pad instead of an analog stick, but if you can ignore that, then it's a good game.
As for an HD remake, they're making a new 3D mario for the Wii U, I think that'll be enough of an excuse for a HD mario game instead of just a remake of Super Mario 64, who knows they may make two like they did on the Wii.

I hope one of these new titles is an RPG, maybe Wonderflick or Rare Drop Adventurer Note? We need more eShop RPGS to be honest, I'll last a long time playing The Denpamen 2, but it would be awesome is some other devs pitched in, like level 5.

@andreoni79 No we can't use American NTSC games on our 3DS', we can however play european PAL games, cause we are the same region as Europe.
This is why I'm importing or buying online, retailers here put the games up to ridiculous prices.
I'm happy to pay whatever for downloadable games on the eshop, unless they're cheaper on the European eshop that is. I prefer not to change the region on my 3DS, but if there's a game I seriously want, I'll do it.

RetroGBHippie92 commented on Smartphones And Tablets To Be "Primary Screen ...:

@ollietaro I don't want an all-in-one device, in fact i'm not gonna support smartphones in general, i'll stick to the standard, old fashioned keypad. Touch screens are generally terrible, talking on a smartphone is ok, but texting is a horrible business with some phones.
Anyway, speak for yourself, not everyone wants smartphones to be the only source of video games, I for one don't consider smartphone games "video games", that's my opinion, but i'm sure i'm not the only one who thinks that.

RetroGBHippie92 commented on The Denpa Men 2: Beyond the Waves Diving Onto ...:

Why aren't there many people excited about this title?? The first was pretty great IMO, the sequel is set to have dramatic improvements on the first, with a huge overworld, animal crossing-like activities like fishing and crop growing and streetpass functionality, to name a few.
This is a definite day one purchase for me and I am set to get the demo as soon as it arrives, you guys that are complaining about the price obviously haven't done any research into this title. If you didn't know, some of the devs that worked on the old SNES Dragon Quest titles like DQVI are on the Genius Sonority team and they even likened this sequel to Dragon Quest II, where this sequel to They Came by Wave has a lot more going for it then the last game did. trust me come May 30th you should consider getting it, because apparently they've upped the difficulty from 'fairly easy- normal' difficulty, to normal-hard strategic' difficulty.

RetroGBHippie92 commented on Smartphones And Tablets To Be "Primary Screen ...:

I hate analysts comparing apples and oranges, seriously how can you compare a dedicated handheld to a smartphone in terms of gaming? also how can you compare a gaming device to a phone anyway? the average smartphone gamer doesn't know what a full length game is like and when they ask for Nintendo to port their games over, they literally have no clue whatsoever when they start talking about the prospect. Nintendo will never officially support smartphones, it doesn't fit their strategy and imagine being asked to buy a phone just to play the next mario, zelda, metroid or fire emblem, cause that's what they would tell us if they were in the smartphone business, yep "upgrade to iPhone 5,5s, 6, 7 Window 8 mobile, yaddah yaddah yaddah...."

RetroGBHippie92 commented on Smartphones And Tablets To Be "Primary Screen ...:

@TheRealThanos It's too bad younger people don't generally have much taste when it comes to video games. Don't forget they have traditional handheld gaming, just as we did 20 or so years ago, it's just helluva harder to get them interested in non-smartphone tech.

Personally I think that whole study is bullsh*t, how can you attest to saying all gaming will be mostly on smartphones and tablets by 2017? you know how far that is away? also the 3DS has only been out for 2 years, I think the 3DS will still be pumping out great games by then, the 3DS won't die out, the Wii U will continue I betcha. So really this research company is just pulling facts outta their a**, you do know how long console/handheld cycles are right?

RetroGBHippie92 commented on Out Today: Fire Emblem: Awakening (Europe):

@Thexare I understand the whole weapon triangle, is it easy to get a hang of once you understand that? I've never been brilliant at SRPGs to be honest.
@Bluezealand Already played the demo, I thought it was pretty good but the last time I attempted a FE game was when we got The Sacred Stones from the ambassador program, never completed it because I couldn't get past that chapter with the spiders and rescuing the children.

What do you think? should I pick this game up? I might play normal mode but with the option of not permanently losing characters, then I might play through it again but with that option off. It's hard to decide since i've never really played much of this genre, I guess they're an acquired taste, but however that comes about is a mystery to me...

RetroGBHippie92 commented on The Denpa Men 2: Beyond The Waves Gets Austral...:

@Geonjaha Have you actually seen the japanese trailer? I saw it ages ago, it does more than just use some of the assets of the previous game, in fact this game looks to be way more of a vast improvement over the original as it actually has an entitre overworld and not just dungeon crawling! In fact, This game has more in common with dragon quest this time than the last game.

Apparently in Denpamen 2, you will be able to capture more Denpamen types, equip more armour, gain new abilities, go fishing, visit villages, grow crops, take pictures of your team of denpamen and save to your SD card and battle other teams of denpamen, from either other people over the internet or what seems to be more like streetpass, which is a fantastic new addition (i highly doubt this game connects to the internet though).
Besides this game is self published by Genius Sonority not by Nintendo, so it simply isn't just using the same assets as last time, however of course it still runs on the same graphical engine and retains the same style, but we can forgive that because this is how denpamen are supposed to look.

Let me just take some time out to say I can not wait to see this game on the eshop, it looks brilliant and I got all that info about Denpamen 2 by looking at the trailer, despite it being in japanese.

@deathlysneer I didn't know any of that, thanks for bringing that up. Well I guess the only reason why we haven't got MSF is because of Australia, there really isn't any need to split the eshop just for our country, so I guess we're just forced to wait.
I still feel your pain because we're both on the same wavelength, I don't want to import or change eshop regions, but looks like for the sake of things we're gonna have to until Australia plays catch up.

RetroGBHippie92 commented on Nnooo: Australian Ratings System Prevents Indi...:

I've been thinking about this problem for ages, literally. Why do smaller nations HAVE to pay more? is it just that the classifications boards think they won't make enough money? Hey think about it, if they'd lower the price of classification, that'd mean more games being localised here, meaning more choice, happier gamers, more advertising dollars (perhaps?? I mean seriously nintendo never advertises any products here). I don't really know, I'm just guessing, but at the moment or really should I say, for the last 5-10 years, nobody BUT Nintendo has managed to fail to impress me on the advertisement side of things, I mean the Wii comes out (1-2 commercials of it's release), the 3DS arrives (barely even one commericial, maybe two or three), then the WiiU (???????????). Come on, if the classifcations boards stop charging viciously up the wall for classifying games, then we'd have more choice and not have to import our games from Europe. I'm done here, but seriously nothing's changed in 10 years, believe me I thought after Australia getting changes to it's system we'd also get some bonuses out of it, but seems like both countries have lucked out, poor us....

Oh I'm sooo getting this game, after playing FFIII, IV and FHOL (the spiritual predecessor to Bravely Default) I think I'm more than likely to buy this game. I think having seen Matrix Software work on the remakes and the original title has led them to make an even better game because I've heard that Bravely Default got really great reviews and even though i'm not to phased about reviews, having what looks like a brilliant battle system, story and art style reminesent of The Four Heroes of Light, looks to be a treat!
I Know FHOL wasn't well recieved, but to honest despite the flaws in the battle system, it was still a pretty good game IMO.

@Hunter-D Whoa! you don't know how long I've been waiting for an eshop/retail release! I've been waiting for at least over 2 years, ever since they announced Cave Story for DSiware (which never came to EU and AU, grrrrrrr!!!!). They said the 3DS download version was meant to be out back in december, they specifically mentioned that it'd be coming to Australia and New Zealand too, so I have no idea what's been keeping them.
Also I've pestered them about it for the last year or so, for an indie dev they sure know how to respond to fans (with silence * sarcasm *).
@Linkstrikesback You're right, but you forgot to mention that the eShop updates on friday in AU&NZ, common mistake I know.

RetroGBHippie92 commented on Rockstar Has "Nothing New" To Report On Grand ...:

I've never liked any Grand Theft Auto, I don't like how the series drew in Bro gamers and other such people because of the instense amount of sex and violence and also how the series glorified these aspects. I understand that this is a Mature rated series, but I've seen kids, way, way under the recommnded age play these games. Don't get me wrong I have no real deal with people being able to play violent games, but these games severely narrow the options new gamers have, especially the casual types like Bro gamers and as usual, parents have no real control or don't bother to control what their children play, thus when a child picks this game out, they might be exposed to all sorts of stuff.

But anyway, If this game is able to draw in more consumers to buy the WiiU, then go ahead and develop/publish this title for the system, just be aware that the media may attack Nintendo, rather than Microsoft or Sony, about the violence in video games.
