rdenton85 commented on Mario History: Mario Kart Wii - 2008:

I never got into this one. I couldn't enjoy the motion controls but the wavebird was perfect. But it felt like far too much of a lack of balance between luck and skill. DS and now 8 have a better balance but this one had far too much luck involved and being pelted by items repeatedly didn't do it for me.

rdenton85 commented on Feature: A Fit-To-Burst History Of Kirby Games:

Power Paintbrush all the way, although I do have a soft spot for Pinball Land. But Power Paintbrush was so unique and a real challenge. A real shame they returned to standard Kirby games after that, although Epic Yarn was incredible.

rdenton85 commented on The Legend of Zelda for Wii U No Longer Set fo...:

I have no problem with waiting. Zelda seems to be the franchise Nintendo are most careful not to rush anyway, but this is seriously bad news for Nintendo. I imagine Starfox is gonna be coming out around November now but they badly need a killer app. A discount on the X1 or PS4 and it's gonna be hard for Nintendo to get new customers on board. This could end very badly.

rdenton85 commented on Poll: Should Nintendo Follow Microsoft's Lead ...:

I just bought one. While a price cut would help, I think they need to focus on advertising it more, and bringing out a better range of bundles.
The standard console with Bayonetta is a great start but I think they should include it with the premium.
I actually bought the premium console with Mario and Luigi U a week ago, and I'm very happy with those games but if they could offer more bundles as well, perhaps focus on promoting other games with the console like Donkey Kong and Sonic and even Rayman then that could help.

It all comes down to the games, and while Nintendo are in a far better position than they were two years ago, they should really let people know what's out there.

rdenton85 commented on The Game Boy Color is Now 16 Years Old:

I loved this console. I was asked to choose between this and a GBA for my birthday in 2000 but I picked the GBC. I had no regrets and bought a GBA in 2004. Super Mario Deluxe may be the best game I ever received with a console

rdenton85 commented on Nintendo UK Executive Says Wii U Has Had "Quit...:

And I'm finally getting one tomorrow. My main reason for holding off were two things, all linked to one thing

First of all I wanted a price cut, mainly because of (number 2) the lack of games. There were only really ten games I wanted, which in nearly two years wasn't good enough.

But that one price cut we had is unlikely to go any lower so I'm happy with Amazon's price of £239 with a game. It will probably be around £10 more in shops but that's a small price to pay to be able to take it home on the day

So now there are finally enough amazing games and plenty more on the way, it's finally time to get one.

PS It's the Super Mario and Luigi U bundle I'm getting. I'd have gone with Wind Waker but would rather own it on disc.

So long live nintendo

rdenton85 commented on Nintendo 64x64: Paper Mario:

It probably suffered a little as I played Thousand Year Door first, but I still loved this game. TYD is my favourite in the series (not played Sticker Star yet) but the original is still brilliant. I was so happy when it came to the Virtual Console years ago

rdenton85 commented on Capcom Won't Greenlight Sequels If A Game Does...:

Reminds me of how Square expected the Tomb Raider reboot to sell something like 7 million in less than a month. I wonder what they thought Okami would sell despite the lack of advertising and promotion of that game.

It's terrible but it takes something like CoD or FIFA to get a guaranteed 10-20 million sales. The days of experimental quirky games are going. Thank god for indie and, dare I say it, Nintendo platforms lol

rdenton85 commented on Poll: Which Is The Best Super Mario Platformer?:

Still Super Mario World for me. It used to be Mario Bros 3, especially after completing it in its NES form (albeit on Wii with save states ) but as soon as I completed the Star Road, I realised how much more I enjoyed World.

I absolutely adore the Galaxy games as well as Mario 64 but I had much more fun with Mario World. I love 2D gaming too much

rdenton85 commented on Talking Point: Nintendo Direct Pointed to Anot...:

I'm amazed how its taking so long to get the VC going. Is it the PAL game issue or something but the Wii had games like Super Metroid, Streets of Rage 3, Link to the Past and so many more in its first year.

Is there something different about the Wii-U's VC that makes it harder to programme for?

rdenton85 commented on Talking Point: Nintendo Direct Pointed to Anot...:

@SahashraLA Woops by 4 games when I mentioned RPGS, I also meant Final Fantasy X and X2. Its sequel gets some abuse but X is a fantastic game.
for some reason I can't edit anything

Yes good point unrandom, I totally forgot about Arcadia. I remembered Fire Emblem but that was more of a strategy RPG I wonder why Advance Wars has never had a console version, unless Batallion Wars is effectively the console franchise.

rdenton85 commented on Talking Point: Nintendo Direct Pointed to Anot...:

Firstly, @rdenton85, you seem to be suggesting the Wii U is physically incapable of producing the same visual output as the PS3 / 360, which are getting the same titles as PS4 / XBOne. Which is ridiculous. Sonic Lost World, AC 4, Mario 3D World, Rayman Legends and Wonderful 101 all look amazing on Wii U.

No, actually I said the Wii couldn't produce the graphics that the 360 and ps3 had which cost it too many games. As nice as ones like Mario Galaxy, Prime 1-3, Wario Land, Klonoa, etc looked, the weaker graphics meant it'd never get a game like Oblivion or Borderlands, and poor level ports such as Dead Rising. This sort of thing made it very clear that the Wii would be a second console if you wanted those games.

Secondly, with all the focus being on boxed games for the other 2 (which are now starting at 70$ instead of 60$ for regular editions and 80-200$ for the 'hyper deluxe editions') Nintendo's 'drought' is heavily offset by a plethora of high quality indies, many of which WON'T be on Steam.

Okay true but do you really think having sweet games like Retro City Rampage and Doctor Luigi will be advertised well enough in game stores, online, etc to convince people wanting a new console that the Wii-U is the one to get? It needs boxed games sitting on the shelves, no matter what the prices are to get people's interests. Even if companies would just re-release their Wii games with a Wii-U case or something, it'd show what is on offer and every console needs that to survive.

Did Microsoft advertise Fez? Illomilo? Or did they spend milions making sure we all knew Halo was out.. again.

Nintendo have done a terrible job with the advertising. It started fine but then really drifted off. It kills a lot of chances of sales. Where were the adverts for Pikmin 3, New Luigi U. We got Mario World regularly in UK but now the ads have disappeared.
Other companies are guilty of this too. Okami could have sold far better if Capcom would have put more adverts out but they didn't and the game deserved better. Its just that unlike Capcom, Nintendo have a console and a lot more money to do this.

Point: less boxed competition means more quality indies. Means Nintendo pushes harder, in game, to get the best games possible. And really, better games means happier gamers.
Lords of Shadow 2 is bland and uninspired. MGSV is short and riddled with DLC. Thief is poorly optimized. South Park's dev cycle looks like Duke Nukem Forever or Aliens Colonial Marines (both bullets dodged).

Okay so these games aren't your thing (I admit Aliens is a horror show and should never have ended up like that), but those games are what people want. I cannot wait for the South Park game. So what if development took years. So did Ocarina of Time.

March and April look packed with the kind of cheap yet packed games I'll be playing before the heavy hitters start rolling out, but if glitzy, glamorous FPS games, pedophilia infested RPGs and monotonous sports games are your fancy here's my suggestion:

Come on. Seriously? Tales of Symphonia was the only major JPG the Gamecube got. That its gotten a PS3 remake along with the sequel is incredible. I don't know if you are into RPGS but I assume you're now, but those four games are gonna be big sellers and worthy of being on any console. I do wonder if Nintendo are gutted that Tales isn't on the Wii-U since the two games were on the cube and Wii.

Buy one of those other systems and stop complaining about the Wii U.

I did buy another system. I picked up a PS3 at xmas. I didn't want a next gen console that wouldn't play current-gen games and would be too expensive and possibly unreliable early on, but I could not justify getting a Wii-U. There just aren't enough games worth getting and why would I want a console that seems unable to guarantee a solid list of releases this year.

And I think you'll find these complaints are justified. You may be happy with say 5 quality games this year but that is not enough when spending hundreds of pounds on a gaming machine. It needs more than Nintendo games and downloads. Simple as that.

rdenton85 commented on Talking Point: Nintendo Direct Pointed to Anot...:

It's just wrong. Look at the Wii. Companies like Sega and Capcom were releasing games for it and the console was selling not solely based on Nintendo's own games. That the Wii-U is going that way is insane.

I always hated that the Wii was doomed to be a second console. By having weaker graphics, games like Mario Galaxy still looked incredible, but games like Red Dead Redemption, Eternal Sonata and FFXIII just weren't possible, meaning you had to buy a ps3 or 360 as well to get the best possible games.

The same thing is happening again, but without the great third party titles like Resident Evil 4 and Red Steel 2 out there, the console is worryingly even more Nintendo dependant.
What's worse is that the consoles cost much more now and it's just not fair to expect people to buy two consoles. It was wrong that Nintendo did this with the Wii, but the prices are making this even worse

rdenton85 commented on Talking Point: Nintendo Direct Pointed to Anot...:

I just really don't get why N either don't have anything to show, or refuse to show any of their upcoming Wii-U games. Surely ever since Skyward Sword and Mario Galaxy 2 were finished, they were working on more.

Something has to be out there for the next Metroid, Starfox, Zelda and more. I know Nintendo don't like to show off games early but it is amazing that we aren't seeing anything yet of games we don't know about. Even a teaser or tech demo like the Zelda one would be enough but it is completely insane that nothing is being shown other than the games we already know about

rdenton85 commented on Talking Point: The Watch_Dogs Wii U Delay Demo...:

Yep, I love the Prime games although I preferred 2 with its horrible difficulty, but while I owned a PS2 at the time, I remember how Prime was delayed in Europe and didn't come out at Christmas. A big shame as I don't think enough people knew of it with its spring release. A shame as to me Metroid Prime and Wind Waker were the two games that really showed off what the console could do.

Mario Kart and Smash Bros were great games but I think those two were the best early ones. I just never enjoyed Mario Sunshine though

rdenton85 commented on Talking Point: The Watch_Dogs Wii U Delay Demo...:

@MC808 Oh the Gamecube in no way deserved to die the death it did. That machine had some incredible titles And I'm pretty sure it is the only machine to have 3 Zelda games. GBA is a grey area as 4 Swords was on the same cartridge as Link to the Past, which was a transfer.

Gamecube had three original Zelda games, 7 all together if you remember the NES and N64 games on that collectors disc , and arguably the best version of Twilight Princess.
And it had my favourite Paper Mario game, three Resident Evil games, the revival of the Metroid franchise, Sonic games on a Nintendo machine for the first time, and many new franchises such as Viewtiful Joe and Wario Ware.

It looks so doubtful that the Wii-U is gonna hit those levels, but I wouldn't mind something, although if I buy one one day, Pikmin 3, Wind Waker HD and Mario 3D Land would be bought on day 1

rdenton85 commented on Talking Point: The Watch_Dogs Wii U Delay Demo...:

I really hope Nintendo aren't gonna push their console as a second console in the same way the Wii was. Yes the Wii probably was a lot of people's second console. I started with a Wii but when games like Borderlands and Red Dead Redemption came out, getting a 360 as well as the only option.

But it really isn't fair to expect people to buy two consoles. It should never be like that and Nintendo really need to do something to make theirs be the best it can.

But sadly this has not happened and Nintendo at this rate will be lucky to sell more consoles than the Gamecube

rdenton85 commented on Recently Departed Official Nintendo Magazine E...:

Awesome news. Nintendo Official Magazine was a complete joke by the end. I liked it as it was the first mag I was really into but the problems were obvious. Official Nintendo Mag with Chandra in charge, gave some real credibility back.

Best of luck.

rdenton85 commented on Feature: 10 Nintendo DS Games We Want To See O...:

I've owned Meteos ever since it's day of release and it was the game I was waiting for before buying my DS. It is a superb game and I remember how obsessed the original Nintendo Official Mag was with it

Oh and Kirby Power Paintbrush (Canvas Curse) and Sonic Rush would be fine games to have.

rdenton85 commented on Guide: How To Become The Ultimate Monster Bree...:

I love the egg move system. Getting Dragon Dance on Tyranitar was no easy feat but so rewarding. And the simple ones like Thunder Punch on Magmar make the game so much better.

But letting the mother pass moves down will help loads.

Amongst my friends, I was the Brock of the trio due to my love of breeding and raising pokemon

rdenton85 commented on Iwata: We Are To Blame For Poor Wii U Sales:

Agreed. I remember how the failure to get Metroid Prime 1 out in time for christmas in europe for the Gamecube's second christmas really damaged its chances of outselling the competition.

Fortunately this is not the case with the 3DS but the Wii-U is struggling here.

rdenton85 commented on Iwata: We Are To Blame For Poor Wii U Sales:

Blimey. Well I'm still amazed that they didn't have more quality games ready for launch period. With so few amazing Wii games in its final years, why were there not more games out straight away. Games like Pikmin 3 and Mario 3D World should have been ready immediately as there was a very long period of so few amazing games.

rdenton85 commented on Retro Chose Donkey Kong Over Metroid as Its Fi...:

Forget Metroid. They pretty much perfected 3D Metroid immediately. It's enough for now as I'd much rather see Metroid 5 either on 3DS or Wii-U as a 2D game. It's been far too long since Fusion came out and I'd like to see a genuine sequel after all this time.

I thought the rumours were that Retro were working on Starfox or a different series. Wasn't it meant to be one that everyone wants.
As much as I love DK and 2D platformers, it's been too long since a game like Starfox, 2D Metroid and FZero.

rdenton85 commented on Nintendo Download: 16th May (Europe):

damn I want Zelda on GBC.

Also I'm thinking of getting a Wii-U nearer xmas. By paying the extra 30p to get Super Metroid upgraded, will the save data no longer work? I don't mind starting again but I'd like to keep my original save file there if possible.

rdenton85 commented on This Is What A New Streets Of Rage And ESWAT C...:

I don't get why Sega are so eager to forget their past. The Mega Drive was their best console. Games series like Phantasy Star, Shining Force, Shinobi and Alex Kidd, plus the single releases like Kid Chameleon, Ristar, Decap Attack, and even Sonic deserve better.

rdenton85 commented on Feature: Celebrating Ten Years of The Wind Waker:

I was a complete idiot in 2005 when I owned a Gamecube and wanted another Zelda after completing Four Swords Adventures, which was my first GC Zelda. I didn't like the graphics. Obviously I was completely wrong as when I recommended my Aunt buy this for her Gamecube, I immediately fell for the game.

It was so perfect. Ignoring that I found it to be a better game than Twilight Princess based on gameplay, the graphics are actually better, because they won't age. TP already looks a bit blurry and out of date, while Wind Waker still looks incredible. Games like Eternal Sonata are prettier, but this art style is ideal.
And it helps that the game is amazing, although I always dread sneaking around the Forsaken Fortress. Ah well roll on this Autumn. Hopefully it's coming in a Wii-U bundle.
