Prof_Clayton commented on Feature: The Poor Career Choice of Super Sm...:

@Neko_Rukiafan Did you even read it or do you follow Smash at all? Because you obviously haven't done either. Smash Bros is one of the most underpaid competitive esports, with little funding coming from a bunch of places, but not really any major funding from anywhere. Its because the community is quite literally run by fans, even most of the major tournaments are. There is no 'rich' person helping sponsor, most sponsors are online stores like PlayAsia or other Smash teams. A tournament pot would be large for Smash if it hit $500. That'd draw a fairly large crowd. Since the tournaments are all smaller with no larger ones, the best players have to go to small ones, so they win everything, leaving no real room for mediocre players to win and profit, making it all a bad choice to go pro in unless you can win.

In this comments section: people who don't understand how copyright, trademarks or court proceedings work.

This will be left up because its a parody. Those are allowed. And its not actually a terrible one either, minus the flappy bird gameplay.

Prof_Clayton commented on Renegade Kid Twice Pitched Silent Hill DS Proj...:

@ChibiJib @andjahiam @Quorthon Actually I have had contact with them before, personal through emails in fact, so don't call people out on things you don't know about.

They do make some unique and fun games; I'll admit to playing through Mutant Mudds on 3DS twice even. Its just their personal attitude that ticks me off for some reason. They come off as almost a, well, spammy company, but please don't take that out of context and let me explain.
The process is as follows. They announce a game. They try to hype the game up. If the game doesn't pass its goal, isn't funded or doesn't sell well, they literally blame the consumers. They go on a small rant about how nobody wants creativity or unique experiences and its all the consumers fault. I'm not even making stuff up, if you haven't seen it you haven't been looking.

Saying sales are bad is one thing. But blaming the consumers for not buying your game is another all together. And if all your games sell well, and you still act like you're literally the best and only unique indie developer on the eShop, it comes across as annoying.

Prof_Clayton commented on Renegade Kid Twice Pitched Silent Hill DS Proj...:

Renegade Kid annoys me. They think they're all that but honestly they're not any bigger than most other indie developers, and shouldn't act like it.
Everyone keeps putting them in their place, such as Konami here, and the consumers by not Kickstarting their desert killing simulator mess. Which they then complained to the fans about because nobody paid for it. Seriously you don't have a huge loyal following that bends to your will and idolizes you, please stop acting like it.
I'm by no means saying they're a bad company as some of their games are really fun. But man for whatever reason this attitude of theirs is rubbing me the wrong way.

Prof_Clayton commented on Exclusive: Theatre Musical 'The Legend of Zeld...:

I didn't find it believeable at all as soon as I saw the headline. Nice work went into the writing and images, but choose something a bit more realistic next year guys.
(by realistic I don't mean boring- something like "Leaked Nintendo Direct broadcast" with an old ND opening would be amazing)

Prof_Clayton commented on RCMADIAX Takes to Twitter to Outline New Strat...:

@RCMADIAX As someone who has followed your games since the beginning, it is sad to see you go. I hope you realize that people would buy more copies of your games if they were more fleshed out, despite your name being attatched. People just want good games for a decent price- sacrificing everything in terms of gameplay and depth just to hit a low price is never the ideal solution. I hope one of these days you decide to make one game at a time- and make it right.

Prof_Clayton commented on Animal Crossing, Yoshi and Dragon Z Bring Star...:

I personally wouldn't get any of these, I like my Zelda selection at the moment.

But I absolutely know that the DBZ one would sell more copies than most other themes if it came out of Japan. There are a lot of people who love Dragon Ball Z.

Prof_Clayton commented on Next Level Games Employee Suggests He's Workin...:

I can be patient, because whatever games they're making I know I will enjoy them when they come. (Or game, if its some ambitious project, but after this long I'd imagine they could be working on two games in different stages).

Prof_Clayton commented on Review: Blek (Wii U eShop):

Played through this, enjoyed the whole thing immensely. Great design, simple and fun. Only real drawback is there wasn't anything cool like a death tally or a speedrun option with leaderboards, that would have made me want to replay it. As it is though, I did replay it once which I never do, great game.

Prof_Clayton commented on Super Smash Bros. Pros Explain Competitive The...:

I've been following these videos since the first one, as they come out I keep eating them up. I already knew a lot of the techniques mentioned, but they make it interesting for both newcomers and veterans. The coolest part by far is the play by play they do at the ends, they need to just do that for competitive matchups. I know I'd love to see what goes through a competitive player's mind and how they react.

Prof_Clayton commented on Nintendo Provides a Handy Quick Guide to Compl...:

Why the heck is this so complex?

Just let me take my 3DS, connect to WiFi, have it do a dump of info into the cloud, turn on my New 3DS, and have it redownload the data. It might take longer, but hey, I could actually sell my current 3DS to put towards the New one.

Prof_Clayton commented on Free-to-Play Denpa Men Sequel Hits 1.8 Million...:

Denpa Men is one of those series that just costs too much for me to get into, when I have other games I can try out for less money. A free to play version might even entice me to go back and buy 1-3, so I hope it arrives over here!

Prof_Clayton commented on More Details Emerge on Mutant Mudds Super Chal...:

Only if you get a discount for owning the original. Renegade Kid titles are overpriced anyway... I'm not paying the original full price for DLC.
Not sure why they're shooting themselves in the foot by offering absolutely nothing new, that's basically saying you don't care if it scores badly.

Prof_Clayton commented on Live: Apex 2015 Prepares to Crown Its Champion...:

The Salty Suite set of PC Chrus vs Ken was amazing. For anyone not watching but wants to see some hype matches... watch that and the Chillin vs Leffen set (and be sure to watch Mango's reaction afterwards as well).
For Smash WiiU sets, I think today will be better though I may have missed anything hype yesterday.

Prof_Clayton commented on Weirdness: According To McDonald's, Mario And ...:

@FLUX_CAPACITOR Parody can be defined as like you said, but also like this: "parody … is imitation, not always at the expense of the parodied text." This is by a relatively important person in the world of theories and criticism.

As for your arguments, you say using a different art style isn't changing the character. Well, duh. They did this and changed the characters in their proportions and sizes. They didn't use Nintendo's characters. Honestly just look at the screen. The 'Bowser' has less spikes on his shell than Bowser. 'Mario' has a brown moustache instead of a black one. 'Bowser' has no toes when Bowser does. This could be proven in court if taken this far as simple imitation, and if you don't think so you're sadly mistaken.

I'm not trying to be mean or ruin your day or anything, but what you're saying just doesn't make sense.

Prof_Clayton commented on Weirdness: According To McDonald's, Mario And ...:

@FLUX_CAPACITOR But they didn't use any of Nintendo's character models or art styles. Or say it was Mario or Bowser. They just drew their own characters which tend to remind us of famous icons. How do you think companies can use characters that look near exactly like, say, Angry Birds and not get sued?
They didn't draw Mario. They drew a character that resembles Mario. And can't be sued for that.
If you don't think so, that's fine, but that's the law at least in the USA.

Prof_Clayton commented on Weirdness: According To McDonald's, Mario And ...:

This is actually from a recent commercial they've been running everywhere, where they take cartoon versions of famous rivals and make them friends due to McDonalds food. Its actually really adorable and the full commercial is right here.

They are allowed to do this without copyright as well. They are drawing their own characters, not the exact Nintendo characters, or referencing them by name. But just by drawing characters who remind us of Mario and Bowser, Grumpy Cat etc they manage to get their commercial across to everyone without having to pay a bunch of money to play it.

Really genius move on McDonald's part, and their other commercials in this series are also some of their best in years in my opinion.

Prof_Clayton commented on Capcom Offers 5 Beginner Tips On How To Become...:

I find every MH tutorial to be really confusing as a newcomer. Capcom's are no different. Finally someone on Reddit found the best, in my eyes, MH beginner's tutorial. Its a 3 video series on Youtube, about 25 minutes, definitely worth a watch for everyone. Here's the Reddit post with the videos linked inside of it.

Prof_Clayton commented on Video: TreeFall Studios Releases Its First Eve...:

I hope this guy goes the @RCMADIAX route and stops making games soon, only to restart with a new focus on one solid title at a time. The way I see it, right now he's building up a lot of experience with games and how to make them, and he should take advantage of that knowledge. No point making tiny games forever, but I can see the strategy in it if a dev chooses to then go bigger.

Prof_Clayton commented on Cube Life: Island Survival is Another Minecraf...:

Man look at the ending of the site.

"Anyway, we will not disappoint the Nintendo community like the UCraft developers did. Every decision we make and every new feature we plan to include, we will consult with Nintendo directly to avoid a big mess and empty promises to our players. We know how to provide updates, we know the Wii U and the eShop limits, and we know what is possible to do. UCraft developers prefer to blame Nintendo for its policies, but we think this is more about their inexperience rather than Nintendo's policies. Nintendo has created great hardware and has provided perfect support for their developers and we will not make similar mistakes"

Shots fired.

Prof_Clayton commented on YouTube Update Spruces Up Wii U App:

I feel the internet browser is easiest for Youtube on the system because of the multiple tabs and multiple video players to choose from. I can actually read NL news while a Smash livestream goes on in the background.

Also, protip: For Twitch on Wii U, type " /popout " after the stream url, you'll lose the chat but can watch the stream with ease.

Prof_Clayton commented on Review: Chariot (Wii U eShop):

Sorry, but what? 7/10? I'm playing through this and it is definitely not a 7/10 game, I was expecting an 8/10 if not a 9. The controls aren't confsuing or take getting used to at all, they all felt very natural and I instantly knew what buttons did what because they made such sense. The level design is really good and the only drawback is that there is a leaning towards two player mode... but I know I'm having just as much fun when I play by myself as I am with another player. The little looters aren't too annoying either, as they are easy to disperse and help to stop you from rushing through the game.

There are also items to collect and purchase in the shop as well as a time trial mode for each level with online leaderboards. There are also collectables to gather in form of silver skulls hidden in each level.

I'm just confused as to why so much was left out of this review. Its almost like the reviewer had a chip on their shoulder or something. Regardless, I personally can't recommend Chariot enough. It needs to score much higher than it currently is and is one of my favorite games on the eShop.

Prof_Clayton commented on Review: Sumico (3DS eShop):

I'm still terrified of numbers after the Brain Age assist trophy in Super Smash Bros... but this looks like it could turn that around.

I'm a little confused as to why this got a 9/10 though- was that mainly because the gameplay is that much fun & the low price? Definitely not saying the review is wrong, I'm just curious to know if I'm missing something.

Prof_Clayton commented on Review: Shantae And The Pirate's Curse (Wii U ...:

Shantae is such a risky (pun not intended) series to try and get into. I feel all the games are priced very highly and if I end up disliking it, that's a lot of money to waste.
I really wish the series would have a cheap sale or a demo at least.

Regardless, nice review and you definitely made me interested in the series that much more.

Prof_Clayton commented on Super Smash Bros. Pro Players Tackle the Probl...:

Diddy is good but this OP rant was only caused by a stupid joke post a pro player made in passing, and everybody else started freaking out. There's really no issue to be honest- combos are still being found and this is just gameplay, imo. I view Diddy as the best, yes, but nobody is very far below.

Prof_Clayton commented on Poll: Which is the Best Mario Kart Game?:

I've been running a poll like this for a while on my site, though mine put each game against another, bracket style. Saw nearly the exact same results as well, with Mario Kart 8 about to win with a huge lead over Double Dash!! in the finals.

Prof_Clayton commented on Game of the Year: Nintendo Life's Staff Awards...:

I agree with Smash U below MK8, but only because of Smash 3DS. I feel the handheld version took away from the Wii U one in that some of the Wii U parts are different just to be different from 3DS, and aren't as good.

As it stands, MK8 is just the overall more original and enticing package for me.

Also, I really think VC should come back next year, it feels a little bit empty right now.

Prof_Clayton commented on Review: Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy (...:

I have them on DS and played through them all in the past year. Sadly I lost the original, somewhere along the line. I'd rather spend $30 to get three games with remastered graphics than $20 for the same game.

Great deal here, easily longer than most games I've played lately. Though I still might wait for a sale as Capcom does them so often...

Prof_Clayton commented on Review: Fairune (3DS eShop):

I enjoyed this one a little more than the review, though I found the puzzles more challenging than Nintendo Life so that may be why.
I'm surprised that the puzzles were all described as easy though... some of the hidden paths and items can be hidden pretty well.

Prof_Clayton commented on Review: Hazumi (3DS eShop):

Won a copy in a giveaway, was completely blown away by the quality. For such a small team they really put in a lot of effort, something all developers should pride themselves on.
Probably my favorite eShop puzzle game, along with Tappingo 2.
