pdrydia commented on Review: Learning with the PooYoos - Episode 1 ...:

Good review--very informative. Out of curiosity, did you play this alone, or with a child? I'm curious as to whether or not someone who plays the game with a child would have any unique insights to add in addition to what you wrote.

pdrydia commented on Hudson Not Abandoning Virtual Console After All?:

I really want to play Princess Tomato in the Salad Kingdom & Parasol Stars. I'm also interested in the Super Bonk games & the remaining Ys games. Some of the platformers listed in the original article look pretty interesting, but there's not much point in reposting VCR's wishlist in its entirety. ;]

You say Hudson wants some input "so post away!"--do you mean the powers that be at Hudson will be reading this post?

Good review, Corbie. It sounds like the controls aren't as tight as I might like, but at $5, I'm pretty sure this is a game I want to try out.

Neat ideas. Hope they translate well into game form!

[edit] Oh! And nice interview, btw. Short questions, but interesting responses. And I'm not left wishing you'd have asked X or Y. I really enjoyed reading this one. ;]

pdrydia commented on Want a Castlevania Remake? Tough, You Get Cast...:

I'd like a remake of Super Castlevania 4 because the SNES version is /terrible/. Simon moves like molasses and...well, really, that's enough to make it unplayable for me. The subweapon system is terrible, too, but I could deal with that, easy, if Simon didn't take so long to react to my controller input. By the time he actually does what I want him to do, I could stand up and throw my TV--which is exactly what I want to do.

I'm sure the game was great for you folks who played it back when it was new--its music is still fantastic today!--but holy **, it raises my blood pressure. D=

pdrydia commented on Want a Castlevania Remake? Tough, You Get Cast...:

I like the very concept of Castlevania: Judgement. It's goofy and it pisses off fans who take their beloved franchise way too seriously. Will it be a good game? I dunno, but I'm going to read reviews with heavy skepticism. Fans have no idea how much bias they bring into reviews of games from their favorite series (see: every review of any Sonic game, ever).

The thing I don't get is why Konami isn't /also/ working on a remake. I'm sure they've got the resouces for it--if they haven't got enough employees themselves, then I imagine they've enough money to farm the work out another company (as Square Enix farmed its Final Fantasy remakes out to TOSE and Matrix Software). I can only imagine a well-executed remake of, say, Super Castlevania 4 as being an incredibly profitable proposition.

pdrydia commented on Mart Racer To Bring Supermarket Sweep Exciteme...:

It's been a while since I watched the game, but as I recall, no one threw any plungers at competitors to stun them and gank their goodies. This looks like it could be neat. Let's hope they don't screw up the power-ups like Major League Eating (supposedly) did.

pdrydia commented on Review: Plättchen: Twist 'n' Paint (WiiWare):

You know, I considered suggesting that WiiWare-World have 2 reviews per game, or a "2nd opinion" (a la Game Informer). But I figured the idea's already occurred to you folks, and if you had the staff, you'd do it.

I'm probably going to still give this game a try. I've enjoyed bad games before, and it helps that it's only 1000 points here in the states.

pdrydia commented on Updated Cave Story Artwork Causes Controversy:

I can kind of understand. But it's not like the "new" sprites are so excessively "modern" as to take away all "old-school"ness from the game. FFS, they're sprites.

[edit] So is this /actual/ controversy, or just people in another community discussing their opinions on the updates?

pdrydia commented on Art Style: Cubello:

The GBA game is fun, as far as falling block puzzlers go, and I'm glad I bought it--at $7.50, at least. There are games I like more on the whole, but Coloris's simplicity definitely has its own draw.

pdrydia commented on Review: Art Style: Orbient (WiiWare):

I expect this to sell well from price point alone. I'll be sure to pick it up, myself. I already imported a couple of the other bit Gen titles, and they're pretty cool. Here's hoping for a Dialhex WiiWare port.

pdrydia commented on Review: Strong Bad Episode 1 - Homestar Ruiner...:

I appreciate that the review doesn't assume the reader is familiar with Homestarrunner.com and makes an effort to educate the reader. As someone already familiar with the flash site, however, I felt like I had to dig through a lot of text to get to the "game review" part of the review. :[

7 out of 10 sounds about right. It's a good game, but not phenomenal. It's certainly likely to entertain any Strong Bad or point-&-click fans. But it's not going to change the mind of someone who dislikes of Homestarrunner.com's humor or the genre. And gamers looking for a stunningly presented game--something that really establishes itself as above and beyond the web cartoon--are going to be disappointed.

A plus of the "episodic" format is that Telltale games will have the opportunity to take some of this feedback into account for future episodes. I don't know how far along they are with the 2nd episode, but I can't imagine they are already done with the 3rd, 4th, and 5th--and one hopes they are capable enough of tweaking completed, unreleased games for really important things. Like, I dunno, that there freezing-on-widescreen-display issue.

pdrydia commented on Luc Bernard Quits Videogame Development:

I read the Destructoid reviews. The first one was especially polite. The second one was a bit more vulgar but also informative. Neither contained personal insults to Bernard, which leaves me baffled as to why so many people here felt the need to respond to the reviews with personal attacks on the reviewers.

BuzzDee said: "Unfortunately it will FAIL in Germany, because most Germans are lazy and don't like to read / listen to English."

I wouldn't call that lazy. I've studied Spanish since I was 11, and it's still an exhausting experience to immerse myself in the language.

Glad this game is out. :D

pdrydia commented on The Mascott speaks about the Virtual Console!:

@ Draygone:

Wouldn't the Super Game Boy have been able to handle GBC games? You know, like how the original Game Boy could play GBC games? Or do you mean "play them and display the proper colors"?

I agree, I think a lot of folks are taking this video too seriously. If it weren't a video, on the internets, about video games, it'd probably come off more ludicrous. Unfortunately, there's a lot of enthusiast gamers online, who make some--let's say--outlandish comments. It's very hard to tell when someone's being goofy and someone's being dumb.

pdrydia commented on Major League Eating: Kodiak Bear Unleashed:

Hahaha, oh wow. They certainly have their sense of humor, don't they? I hope the bear got to eat his fill of delicious salmon brains afterwards, looks like he was still hungry.

Peznaze: Does seem a bit strange, I guess, but whatever boost sales is good. Of course, this might have originally been written for something else (the Major League Eating Fan Club Monthly Mailing...or whatever :p), and simply forwarded to WWW.

pdrydia commented on Penny Arcade Adventures Too Big For WiiWare:

Peznaze: Really? I'd say that people should rather make a fun game before selling it. Coding it well is an important part of that, I'm sure, but you can have great code and still come out with a game (like Pong Toss?).

pdrydia commented on USA VC Update: Super Fantasy Zone and Gley Lancer:

@LunarX: Wow, name-calling much? I feel like I'm in middle school again.

@North99: If you want to enjoy the classics from when you were growing up, but the Wii's not doing it for you, I don't suggest the PS3 or Xbox360. You will not be getting your classics there. Try buying a second-hand SNES or N64.

@OP: It's good to be seeing all these imports. :] I was hoping we'd get a lot of these, back in the day.

pdrydia commented on Review: Major League Eating: The Game:

Wow, really nice review. Your introduction is short and flows smoothly into the information on the game. The information itself is ordered really well. I feel like I've got a very good idea of what this game is like.

I've got a question about power-ups. Do they have to be used? Say I'm playing with a friend, and we agree that power-ups are lame and we're not going to use them--will that work, or does the game force you to use them within a certain time limit?

pdrydia commented on Prepare To Eat Until You Belch On Monday:

"The Game uses the Wii Remote to simulate a variety of eating techniques including the cram, toss, and 'typewriter.' Burp-offs and Hot Potato challenges during the contests keep the competition intense and eaters on their toes."

Sounds vaguely WarioWare-esque.

pdrydia commented on Plättchen Will Be Twisting And Turning In July:

Yeah, My Life as a King is also $15...but I wouldn't draw immediate comparisons between it and Plättchen. The FFCC game hails from a recognizable developer (Square Enix) and is an installment (of sorts) in a very recognizable series of games (ahem, Final Fantasy/Crystal Chronicles).

I agree with XCWarrior, I think the price is really going to kill sales. I hope Bplus still manages to turn a profit, cuz this does look pretty neat.

pdrydia commented on Most Popular WiiWare Games in North America (2...:

You're right, Toki Tori is down dreadfully low, and that's just terrible. I wouldn't normally do this, but in the interests of boosting its standing on the Most Popular WiiWare Games in North America charts, I will generouslly allow one of you, my fellow WiiWare-World.com readers, to buy the game for me. It's the chance of this moment, don't let it slip away!

pdrydia commented on RUMOUR: PopCap Games To Develop For WiiWare?:

@ OP:
I'm surprised this is only at "rumor" status--I heard PopCap Games likes the money. Nintendo ought to be careful, though, or the WiiWare service will get overrun by puzzlers. Not that I don't love me some puzzlers, but I hear there are some crazy folks out there who don't.

@ Junichi:
I lol'ed. 4x multiplier for toilet humor + juvenile language + laughing at your own joke + punnery. High five!

pdrydia commented on Sunsoft To Bring Digital Comics To WiiWare In ...:

@ Tim:
Yeah. This has the potential to be awesome, or at least damn neat, if the comics are developed/edited for their format, but to be really disappointing if they just slap some scans up on the Wii.

I'm glad Japan is always the test market for this kind of stuff. I would hate to spend money on something and then find out it's so flawed as to be worthless. As far as I'm concerned, it's very nice of them to beta test games & services for us all the time.

pdrydia commented on Microsoft Befuddled by WiiWare:

So when Xiotex says Nintendo is excluding indies, it's time to take up the sword. (Damn you, Nintendo! That's not what you promised us!)

But when someone from Microsoft says Nintendo might ('possibly, maybe, I dunno, I'm a little confused by their strategy') be excluding indies, obviously he's fulla ...(like XBLA!).

Now I'm confused!
