norwichred commented on Review: Guitar Hero Live (Wii U):

I have an Xbox one and love my rhythm games so I have both this and Rock Band 4 band in a box.

Although I am talking about Xbox one, my experience may be salient so I'm posting it here.

My experience of buying Guitar Hero Live today was as follows :

Well this is where we're at at the moment

1) go to GAME
2) Buy GH Live
3) return Home
4) find disc is faulty and won't load.
5) spend 45 minutes rebooting console and trying to fix
6) return to GAME and swap for new copy
7) Return Home
8 find this disc won't load either
9) return to GAME
10) swap for new copy
11) get home.
12) find disc works
13) set up guitar
14) find guitar doesn't work
15) return and get working copy.

That said, both games are actually very poor. RB4 is the Pro Evo of the Rhythm game world. It lacks any kind of polish at all, has clearly been pushed out the door with no attention paid to it whatsoever. However it plays like an absolute dream.

GH : Live stinks in comparison. The guitar absolutely sucks and creaks and clicks to distraction. The six button control scheme is genius, but the charting is NOT good (it was ever thus with GH games) so it only rarely feels like you are playing a real guitar. That said, the dreadful over charting from previous instalments isn't present this time.

I also fear that the average player will find the six button control system too difficult. I'm struggling with it and I play real guitar and these games usually on expert.

If I had no choice (ie I only owned a wii u) then I would not hesitate to get this if I liked rhythm games. However you cannot rate it Taking into account it's the only game of its type on the system. And as a rhythm game I'd give it a six and a half maybe with rock band 4 getting a seven and a half.

Sorry if that was long!

norwichred commented on Fresh European Trademark for Diddy Kong Cranks...:

I would LOVE a new DKR game. Just started playing through the original, again on my JDS and it still holds up today. Sadly, though, I can't see this being a Wii U game as MK8 and DLC is dominating that market and they wouldn't want to dilute that.

At a pinch maybe a 3DS game.

norwichred commented on Video: Mario Kart 8 Isn't The Only New Mario K...:

I played a Mario kart arcade game for the first time this summer. Dunno which one it was, but the handling was awful, and the graphics excruciatingly bad. I put a quid in, played one track, won, and then was asked to put another quid in to continue!

norwichred commented on Guide: The Biggest Wii U and 3DS Retail Games ...:

Can honestly, and sadly, say that there is not a single title there on either format that interests me more than happy with what I have to be going on with, toad I might pick up if the price and reviews are good, and hoping for a SNES remix to tide me over.

norwichred commented on Nintendo Download: 29th May (Europe):

Is it confirmed that Mario Kart 8 is £49.99 download in the UK? I am downloading it - the first time I have ever downloaded a full price retail game on any system. Got £50 credit from GAME so I still get reward points.

My rationale is that I am never going to want to trade it in, and i tend to only have one disc game going at once. I am STILL battling my way through SMB 3D World (up to champions run), and Donkey Kong country is still in cellophane waiting to be played.

So MK8 download it is (and Zelda Windwaker HD as the second game, as I haven't played that).

norwichred commented on Super Mario 3D World Struggles Against PS4 Tit...:

I made THREE separate attempts to pick up my preordered, prepaid copy of SM3DWorld from my local GAME store here in Norwich before I finally managed to get it. My first attempt was 9am, I finally got it at 5pm. Why? The queues for PS4 and Black Friday deals. Each time the queue was over half an hour from door to checkouts and I only had half an hour parking. Not everyone would have had the staying power I did.
It was MADNESS to launch on that day!
