@ChuJelly You're right, that the new adaptive brightness feature, the screen will get darker in dark environment. Actually I noticed this feature several times, but each time I tried to summarize all the features of new 3ds, I always forgot it -_-. So I can understand why nobody talk about it (no, I can't).

For the new exclusive games, I think most of games will not be in this category. No matter what, game developer and publisher still want to earn as much as possible, so there is not way they exclude the large install base that already there. The only possible reason that there's exclusive game is that they game really need extra power, like Xenoblade. I also think it's possible that Nintendo may release some other Wii games as new 3DS exclusive, since it will not cost a lot to port the game and they usually require more power. But other games, either 1st party new titles, or 3rd party games, should still be playable on old 3DS as that's the only way to earn more.
However, I also think it's possible that new games will have something exclusive on new 3DS. For example, maybe next Pokemon will be able to be 3D all the time on new model, but still partial 3D on old model.

@Jazzer94 I think nobody answered your question yet. According to official website, the camera's resolution is still the same. However, the performance in dark environment is improved a bit
Untitled
Another change is the front camera, there is a infrared LED next to it, which can help the camera recognize the position of player's face in dark environment (but I think it will not be helpful for the image quality)

@KodyDawg As far as I understand, there are some free themes and you need to pay for more themes.
Edit: watched the Nintendo Direct again, as far as I can hear, Iwata said there are basic themes for free download, and there is a theme shop as well.

I personally don't mind this DLC. Actually I like it. However, I still want to say I can understand other players who may against it if Nintendo can't do it right (since at this time, we don't know how exactly it works). 1. Is this DLC really optional, or this DLC is bundled with many other improvements? If that's the latter case, you can't say it's optional because all the improvement are important. In the worst case, you must have it to play online. 2. Can you optionally block this DLC when playing online, or if your opponent use this car, you have no way but accept that? If it's the latter case, that means not only the DLC is not optional but also not avoidable. I hope Nintendo does the former case for both my questions. Once again, I don't mind real world cars at all, and I probably will use that car, but I can full understand that there are players that don't want them, and I hope Nintendo do the right thing that doesn't bother them.

272 apps currently on my JP 3DS. I hope Nintendo can announce a new 3DS model soon so I can buy another one before the number reaches 300.
(Btw, 198 of them are demos... However, I assume since NOJ release more and more demos every week and they provide 5 club coins for each demo, there should be more and more Japanese 3DS players face such issue recently. Maybe NOJ will notice that and try to fix it through a firmware update, and NOA and NOE will benefit from that as well).

@SonataAndante But one thing make Japan's club great: you can earn 5 coins for each demo (within 10 days since the demo available), and there are already nearly 200 3DS game demos so far, which mean 1000 Japan coins, or roughly 2000 US coins. There's no problem to become platinum only by demos.
Not to say they have much better selections of rewards.

Now Yokai Watch 2 already sales more than Yokai Watch, and there is no doubt that Pokemon ORAS, Monster Hunter 4g and Super Smash Bros. will book their positions in the second half year. I think 3DS will continue dominating the top 10 at the end of this year, but the question is how many Wii U titles left (MK8 probably can still be the top 10 for the whole 2014 ranking, but not sure if SSB Wii U version can be one of the top 10)

FYI, I think (as far as I know) the comic workshop's tutorial is just about how to use its tools, not about how to draw comic.
Please correct me if I'm wrong, because if it also teach you how to draw comic, similar to art academy, I will definitely buy it.

@PvtOttobot Totally agree with you. Less than 2.5 years and there are 4 Denpa Men games, RPG games. Even if each game had significant improvement, it's still too many and fast, not to say that the improvement is trivial.
That's how to destroy a good game brand. I liked this game initially, but now I'm tired of it.

Use a lot of coins -> beat one stage -> wait several days for the coins -> repeat.
Thanks to yesterday's new panel, I have to wait more days for the coins to play the next stage.
Since you can have at most 334 pokemons for each type during the battle, and without streetpass you can only have 1 type, it's clearly that there's no way to complete this game without lots of streetpass.

That's why Nintendo should continue working on their 3DS or following consoles and not release their new games on mobile platform. There are tons of such cheap imitations, and Nintendo has no effective way (except so called "law" which doesn't always work) to defend their IPs and ideas on others' platform, and no way to attract customers to choose their games if the low quality imitations are much cheaper (because most customers can't really tell the difference before purchasing)

I saw this game on JP eShop today, as well as the upcoming island days. Something really disappointed me is that both games don't support 3D display. I think the game will visually much more interesting and appealing if they support 3D display, even if that's only simple 3D like different layers. (at least for me).

I know some players may not care about that, but in fact that's very popular, and a better way to advertise a video game if that game is really good (much better than TV commercial or demo video because you can watch some real fans play the real game, actually SM3DW and Pikmin 3 failed to attracted me by all types of commercial or review until I saw gameplay in this way). I know it's not a feature that everyone want to use: more than 99% players don't want to board cast their gameplay. However, I think some players really want to watch others play, especially if they play really well or their commentary is really fun. (and I like the niconico style live)
I'm not saying that WiiU needs such function which may sacrifice the performance: the gamers who want to board cast may already bought the necessary device for them. I just want to say don't simply say it's not fun: that's actually fun.

These commercials are bad because they give 2 wrong hints: 1. the game is only for young children, and 2. you should only put your real life friend in the game. Those are totally wrong, and limits both the potential players and the potential play ways.
I still remember that Japanese Nintendo Direct told a interesting love story by this game. Also their other TV commercials for this game are humorous. However, probably, that's the culture difference.

Already played the game for more than 1 year, so I don't really care about it (Whatever, I'm far from platinum this year). However, I think for a new game, it's important to let all players know that, instead of just randomly choose few of top players. I mean, what's the purpose of this type of lottery?
Or, maybe, based on the feedback of this small scale test, another updated demo will be available later?

I'm waiting for the following Animal Crossing and Pikmin versions. I already bought the 6 Japanese version Mario cards for $180 (which only worth $120 as eShop points, but I can't find any other cheaper way to buy those cards in US at that time). Now $10 for 3 cards is much cheaper for me, and I don't think I can easily spend another $120 for Japanese eShop titles. (But on the other hand, if that's $30 eShop creadit for 3 cards, I'll be in trouble again, because I already have more than $100 creadit in US eShop. I still prefer physical game cards except games like tomodachi life or animal crossing).

Anyone who is familiar with this program should expect no more than what just happened. Well, maybe next time, when posting the news about upcoming Pokemon Get TV, explain the program more and lower audience expectation.

mullen commented on Talking Point: What We Want To See From Ninten...:

I like what you said at the beginning: to prove that smartphones and tablets are not implicitly designed for gaming. However, I don't like your other ideas, because almost all of them just say Nintendo should follow smartphone and tablet's way: no 3D, no game card, mobile chipset, multi touch, cheaper games, social network. None of these ideas are something new and exciting, and all of them are just from smartphones and tablets. If Nintendo just follow these way, they just make another PSV, and then doomed. I don't mean Nintendo should do none of them, but 1), what Nintendo needs to think about for next hardware should be far beyond than those. Those should be just some ignorable details compared to the real big ideas. 2), should not simply copy ideas from smartphones and tablets: 3D is still amazing, instead of dropping that, why don't make it even amazing, e.g., from all viewpoints, or even holography; physical card means too much for real gamers, and also means that it's still possible to play your old ds/3ds games on new generation, it can be less important, but don't remove them (at least during the first half of next generation); multi touch is good, but if the price is that you can no longer use an accurate pen, it harms: I have several games that accurate pen input is required and that's the reason these games are interesting compared to smartphone ones; mobile chipset seems to be powerful, but nNidia and AMD may abondon Nintendo for a larger profits at any time and Nintendo will be in huge trouble (it's very unlikely that Nintendo can get a strong partnership with an U.S. company).
I hope that there can be some unexpected huge breakthrough for the next generation. However, if everything is just follow the smartphone's rule, there's no doubt that next generation will be a big failure simply because you throw away all the unique points and can't catch up with smartphone's yearly based pace.

@DinoFett The prize is ... basically saying, no prize. You can get a Ninja suit after a Ninja dream, or get a balloon after the dropping dream, but that's not anything valuable (the only thing you can do with a balloon is to sell it for few money). Tomodachi Life is basically not a game, at least not a game for any purpose or goal. It's just an interactive show to muse the player and share with friends, a type of game to let you relax and laugh.
I love this game, but I can't say it for everyone. I can understand NOA because this localization must be the most challenge one in its history. But on the other hand, it's also like a gamble to make players have too high anticipation. I mean, unless players really play it for a extended length of time (and maybe discuss with friends in real life), it may be difficult to find the joy of the game. The first title of this serious (DS version) actually had a extremely low rating and selling number at the beginning, but after few weeks, players eventually thought that game was really good, and introduced the game to their friends. Eventually, it became one of the best selling games.
Btw, for this game, unless you can make sure you keep clearing all tags everyday, ten tags per day is not helpful at all (It's not like pokemon that each tag is just a counter. Here every tag is a unique Mii, moving (not copying) from other's 3DS to yours, so please be serious to him/her). I'd rather to have 1~3 per week.

I think that's not a pair of figures. The subtitled version is not very accuracy. According to my understanding, both the founder and the ancestor (forefather) are related to Naruhodou Ryuunosuke (0:30 in the video). Possibly the founder means he is the founder of the law or attorney in Japan (considering the background), or turnabout, and ancestor means the ancestor of Ryuuichi.

mullen commented on First Impressions: Tomodachi Life:

@Klunk23 The upper limit is 100, as each Mii needs one room in the Mansion, and there are at most 100 rooms (it starts with 24 rooms, and you will eventually get more rooms as more Miis move in).

mullen commented on First Impressions: Tomodachi Life:

@mystman12 That's the main function of the streetpass in Japanese version. However, since I live in US, I am really pissed off by this function as all my kids eventually "dead", I mean, streetpassed with someone who may not play this game anymore or couldn't streetpass my kid to a 3rd 3DS or turned of the spotpass function. Thus my kid would be in his/her 3DS forever and not send me any postcard or visit back or update travel information.
So if western versions keep the same manner, I really hope that everyone takes care of others' kids by regularly check and clear streetpass tags and enable the spotpass function of this game.
Btw, another function of the streetpass is to import goods from another islands, including cloths, hats, or even treasures, which are unavailable through regular play.

Let me talk about one other aspect. If you're straight, and while you're playing this game, your Mii asks you whether he should fall in love with a boy (or she with a girl), what do you think? You may say to avoid this, each Mii can have one additional property about whether he/she loves boy/girl, but still, many people will not happy when seeing such option every time you created a new Mii.
One fact that I'm sure most players who never played this game misunderstand is that this game is different from animal crossing or the Sims, which you give commands to your character(s). In this game, you can only influence Miis. For example, you can't ask or help one Mii fall in love with another particular Mii. That is totally random, and the only thing you can do is when asked, you can say yes and give some suggestion, or say no can give your reason.

I created the following pictures to list all the differences between different versions (NA, EU, JP) that I noticed.
I saw some comments above talking about some differences, but you know, everything in this game is random or customizable, and 10 min can't cover everything, so I don't really consider all of them as different. What in my list are those significantly different from JP version.

As far as I know, this series, different from what was mentioned above (fsn, lb, clannad, etc.), is a really PURE novel: you don't need to make any decision or play any mini-games, just read. I can see something different from Japanese version according to these screenshots: BBQ is something new, as well as one new spot on the map (the ship or island southeast to the main island), the salesperson has a totally different hat (or mask? head?). Also, I didn't see any Asia food or cloth from these screenshots, which is very common in Japanese version. I'd say this localization is really a localization than a translation.

I agree. AA4 should be a start of a new series, just like AAI, AA5 is the worst of all 7 games (excluding Layton one, which I have not played yet), because the game itself doesn't know what's its direction. mullen commented on Less Than 5% of Those Polled by the Game Devel...:

At the beginning I was surprised the low number 3DS got. But think about it more, I think it's reasonable. Why? (In addition to that someone already pointed out the porting difficulty) Because large company in US can earn more from other systems, and small developers / indie developers can't survive on 3DS totally due to NOA! I mean, does any of you really notice most of the 3rd-party/indie eShop games on 3DS? I know you may be able to name some of them, but still very likely to ignore most of others, not because their quality, but because they have no way to be exposed. They are hide deeply in the eShop, not being recommended in anyway; it's possible that the only way you can locate them is directly searching their names, unless they're just released and you check the recently released channel regularly (I don't know how many of you do that every week; it takes several seconds or even up to minutes loading). Everything you can easily find in eShop are 1st-party or from other large companies. The reason I blame NOA is because JP eShop is much better. They also advertise games from small companies or indie games. There are much more demos (almost more than 3 demos every week) and encourage you to play demos by providing 5 club coins for each demo. There's a release note every week in eShop to let you know the updates (open instantly, no need to wait for loading), not only the newly released games, but also any game info updates before or after it released. You could also notice more channels for such games. To sum up, if a small developer put a game on NA eShop, it's more likely that no one even know its existing. That also explains why there're more developers for PSV in US, which system has poor sales number.
Hope NOA can notice that and do more for those developers and titles.
