Linkstrikesback commented on Shenmue 3 Could Happen Via A Kickstarter Campa...:

No, it couldn't happen via kickstarter. There is no way they could EVER raise nearly enough money, the dream cast game alone cost 20 million dollars. And of course a current gen game would cost more.
And only 59 kickstarters have ever got over $1million, let alone 20.

Whats with all the blatant clickbait articles nintendolife

Linkstrikesback commented on Video: What Could Super Mario Galaxy Look Like...:

"What could it look like" vs "what will it look like if it happens" are two very different things.

1) is what we've been seeing for years on dolphin, and is glorious. 2) is the nintendo approach where they put BLOOM EVERYWHERE for no reason (thanks WWHD).

@Knux

He actually said a few days ago that kickstarter probably won't work. Presumably VLR cost a ridiculous amount of money. Very few games hit more than a few 100k, which, with VLRs full voice acting, models, 30+hour single player and excellent OST almost certainly cost more.

I hope it happens someday though.

Linkstrikesback commented on Rumour: 2015 Sonic Title To Hit Wii U Alongsid...:

"Sonic Adventure 3" already happened, twice. They called them "Sonic heroes" and then "Sonic the hedgehog" (a.k.a Sonic 06).
They were both horrible games (just like the originals are by todays standards, they aged terribly).

The only sequels sega should be considering even slightly are "Sonic Colours 2" or "Sonic Generations 2".

I'd be excited for DS virtual console on wii u, except for the fact that Nintendo has done an absolutely terrible job with Virtual Console on both the 3DS and Wii U.

At the absolute very best, we get a slightly better slow trickle of games. At worst, this means we get even fewer SNES games. (And we're unlikely to get many of the games I really want, like pokemon/ the world ends with you)

@ikki5
Yeah.
We can get free wii points. At the low low price of 4000 stars, i.e. 16 full wii u games/20 full 3ds games, you can get 1000 wii points, i.e. enough for a single N64 game, and they only apply to wii vc or wiiware games. Nothing on 3ds.

Whereas you can get 70 or so coins if you do all the extra things per game, and the downloads cost 150-200 coins, i.e. somewhere between 2 and 3 games.

It's not even close to equal.

Wow, that's enough spin to keep the galaxy orbitting.

A 40% increase yoy for the wii u is absolutely terrible news, given it was on the market for nearly 12 times as long this year. (It launched on the last day of novermber in 2013 in the uk).

And only a 4% increase for 3ds when they dropped the pokebomb (As well as all the other amazing titles this year) isn't reassuring either,

Wow, Metroid Prime IV is winning the "favourite from this list" poll at the moment.

Shame it's not going to happen in 2014. Retro took 2 years to put out metroid prime 2 and that was when they already had everything left over from Metroid prime 1 ready to speed up development.

They can't possibly made a Metroid prime 4 properly in around a year after finishing DK Tropical freeze. (Though I would dearly love to be wrong)

I presume this is a mistake and that it should be £2.79 like the wii u version, and not that there is no discount on the 3DS version for UK people.

@3wdiisu
A no name site, with no source or proof is your argument?

Lol. So anyone who can make a webpage and put stuff on it is automatically telling the truth. Yeah, no. Show a big site or an interview with a sony employee where they said it, because that is trolling, pulled right out of the arse of that webpage maker to get hits.

@darkgamer001
Sony announced a ton of stuff long before Microsoft. For those with short memories, they absolutely blindsided Microsoft with the PS4 announcements months before microsoft had anything to say about the xbone. At the time, they said that the strategy they were going to take would be the "one that does right by gamers", or something along those lines. I find it very hard to imagine translating that into restrictive DRM.

@ LDXD

Then explain why people aren't buying the Wii U. Either you think Nintendo games have gotten significantly less desirable (i.e. worse), or they have competition. Pick one. Or give a valid third option, but that would contradict what you're already saying.

Linkstrikesback commented on Poll: As the PS4 Arrives, What Do You Think of...:

@ LDXD
People are buying PS3/4, Xbox 360/ones and smartphones/tablets instead of Nintendo consoles. Therefore Nintendo has competition.

Unless you're suggesting the reason Nintendo sales have fallen through the floor (And are nearly coming out the other side of the planet...) is because Nintendo games have gotten worse, hence no-one wanting to buy them?

Well, sony has officially sold more PS4s in a single day just in North America than nintendo has wii u worldwide this entire year.

That about says it all really on how this is going to go down.

If they have the stock, it's quite possible Sony outsells the Wii U by the end of the year

Linkstrikesback commented on Pokémon Bank Pricing Emerges For Europe:

I'm not happy with any pricing over £0 for transferring pokemon. They had better give a 30 day free trial with every new pokemon game that comes out if they do intend this to permanently replace in game generation transfers.

And £4.50 is too much for such a meager amount of storage, but whatever. A fool and his money and all that.

Linkstrikesback commented on Poll: As the PS4 Arrives, What Do You Think of...:

All I'm going to say is, if the PS4 doesn't do significantly better than the Wii U is going to, the entire industry is in some serious, serious trouble. If all 3 did about what the wii u is likely to do (say 30m , and that's very generous, since it's more likely to be ~20m) it would mean that roughly 2/3rds of the market just vanished in the course of a single generation.

At least, those are only US numbers, but it's pretty similar everywhere.

@Einjhar

"But if that is your general situation, you should consider changing it."

I should consider dropping out of getting a successful career because of videogames and nintendo being incompetent? I moved to a new university to begin getting a Ph.D last month and everyone I knew went their separate ways. I would dearly love to play New Super Mario Bros U/2 with my friends, but Nintendo won't let me.

"mario game 3+ times and tell me, if there is any challenge left that would make you say "i need to play that game online again" "

It's a little something called "fun". There is something inately fun in being able to play video games with friends, even if you've played it through before. Yes. I would like to "play that game online again" if I was doing it with friends. It's the same as sports: I sure as heck didn't give up playing football because "we've done it before 3+ times".

Coincidentally, This is part of the reason I know no-one else who has bought a wii u. They'd have jumped on it if that meant they could continue to play multiplayer games over the internet, but nintendo is still stuck in the early 90's in regard to the super scary internets.

Linkstrikesback commented on Shigeru Miyamoto Clarifies That Local Multipla...:

@Einherjar That's not a fact, that is something you just made up on the spot.

You must be moderately young still, as real life clearly hasn't hit you yet with the reality that everyone has responsibilities that mean they will eventually be forced to move away from people that they would like to play games with.

I know tens, maybe even a hundred + people I have met that I would LOE to be able to play Mario Multiplayer with. But almost all of them live hundreds of miles away now.

If you really think that "Onlne MP degraded itself to foul mouthing, smack talking, and elitist sub groups and is in no way compareable to a local MP round." I can only presume that your friends don't have an internet connection? Otherwise, either you and your friends are already in one of those groups, or you are wrong.

(Hint, it's probably the fact that you are a short sighted fool, like the people at nintendo making these decisions).

@Jared1984

"They'll buy it anyway".

Right, that's exactly why wii u is currently on track to being the biggest failure of a console launch outside of the virtual boy that Nintendo has ever had.

I personally expect Nintendo to try and ride out this generation with the wii u (They can't get rid of it this early, that WOULD be a disaster), but there isn't much they can do to reinvigorate the console if this winter season doesn't work.

I then assume they'll do away with having two lines and have only the 3DS follow up but complete with the ability to stream to a tv.

Except, if you want to use the pokemon transfer feature, for this or any further generations, which has been free for the last 10 years, you DO have to buy it.

Linkstrikesback commented on Nintendo Launching Cloud-Based Pokémon Bank S...:

To be honest, I don't think anyone would be upset if it was JUST cloud storage.

It's another thing entirely that they felt the need to pull out a feature from previous games and make it pay (especially when it is virtually necessary to 100% the pokedex)

Linkstrikesback

#38

Linkstrikesback commented on Nintendo Launching Cloud-Based Pokémon Bank S...:

So they should factor that into the cost of the software we're buying then. Or leave in the ability to transfer from old games with 2 consoles.

Or build an app that moves pokemon from a DS pokemon game to storage on an SD card memory, then from that SD card memory to X/Y.

They had plenty of ways they could do it for minimal cost to them, they chose the one that they thought they would be able to use to gouge more money out of players.

@mumof3kids82
You're not wrong, the pokemon transfer App is part of pokemon bank and only works if you're subscribed.

Linkstrikesback

Linkstrikesback commented on Nintendo Launching Cloud-Based Pokémon Bank S...:

Christ, no it isn't.

We've already been through this. You're not getting "1-2GB of cloud storage". You're getting like, a few megabytes at most. Do you have any idea just how many variables you can store in a 1-2 gb file? Don't answer, as you obviously do not. Because it's in the MILLIONS at the very minimum, not thousands. A single pokemon takes up no more than a few kb unless the company is hilariously terrible at programming.

Linkstrikesback

#40

Linkstrikesback commented on Nintendo Launching Cloud-Based Pokémon Bank S...:

@SphericalCrusher

All that is possibly unique about a pokemon is all that would need to be stored.
That is, IVs, EVs, Trainer ID, pokemon nickname, location of capture, gender, moves, nature, so on.

Case in point : if you go to any of the pokemon generation websites (that allow you to copy everything important about a pokemnon and troublingly, can actually be compatiable with the DS games if you're playing roms) only take up 136 BYTES for a single pokemon, storing everything unique about it.

Just in case you're not aware, 136 bytes is 0.0001297 of a megabyte. For a single pokemon. So about 0.4megabytes for 3000 pokemon. Even being generous like I was earlier and saying 20mb was apparently an overshoot. Of course, you have to allow that there might be some new variables added to X/Y that we aren't yet aware of, so it might be a tiny little bit bigger. It's still a negligiblely small size.

It's not 1.7GB of space to save. It's 1.7GB for EVERYTHING IN THE GAME, including all music, models and everything, none of which would ever be uploaded.

Linkstrikesback

#41

Linkstrikesback commented on Nintendo Launching Cloud-Based Pokémon Bank S...:

Then you're insane. $5/ year or whatever it is for ~20mb is a huge rip off.

Even going by other gaming comparisions, PS+ gives you a entire GB of storage for your save data, and just ignoring everything else you get from PS+ (such as you know, essentially free games and huge discounts) would mean they're charging around $1 for 20mb of storage, and that gives you complete storage for every game that ever releases on PS3/Vita, not just one single series.

Linkstrikesback

Linkstrikesback commented on Nintendo Launching Cloud-Based Pokémon Bank S...:

Yes they are. I have a complete pokedex on B2/W2. I want to transfer them to X/Y.

Not going to happen. Yes I know about the free "trial". But that's only good for one gen, because as soon as gen 7 comes round, they'll be expecting you to pay then.

@Jazzer94

@C-Olimar

The reason it's so much cheaper on iOS is because there was a 6+ year gap between the english DS and iOS releases.

Releases drop in price over time: it has nothing to do with capcom what it retails at now as that is determined completely by the market (As they haven't printed copies in forever)
