@Windy I agree with you. This has been mentioned before by many people. I think the next Nintendo console should really be a handheld that has an HDMI adapter similar to Chromecast or Amazon TV. No need for two consoles going forward if you can make one that can serve as a home console and portable.

Nintendo has been spreading themselves too thin with development and they could release more games much faster only having to program for one console.

@sinalefa I have the original 2GB 3DS and that's exactly what I did, went out and bought a 32GB SD card. Unfortunately that is what I'll have to do again if I want to upgrade.

I like the smaller version 3DS so I will keep my fingers crossed that it will eventually get a North American release.

@sinalefa You're correct, I thought the Wii U was using an SD Card for storage but it is internal.

Either way my point was more about the lack of storage the portable has compared to the home console. You'd think the 3DS would have more storage to make the portability easier. 16GB to start would be great but I don't think 8GB is asking too much. 4GB is barely enough for two decent sized games.

So the Wii U comes with a 32 GB SD card and the 3DS still only comes with a 4GB SD card? Is the consumer more likely to download games on a stationary console or a portable one?

This maybe a minor gripe to most people but this is my biggest issue since I like my portable to be portable and I don't like swapping out games or carrying games around. Now I will need to upgrade the SD card again if I want to transfer from my original 3DS.

Nintendo should've kept the WiiU VC exclusive to past home consoles and kept the 3DS VC exclusive to past handheld consoles...OR release all the games for both consoles at the exact same time. Right now it's anyone's guess what is coming out on what console.

...and who do I need to speak with about getting a Metroid game (other than the original) on the 3DS VC?! How about an old Fire Emblem too?!

@jmax You're right, by anomaly I don't mean to imply that Nintendo was lucky, they read the landscape put out a console that had widespread appeal and it sold ridiculously well...heck...my 70 year old parents even bought one. I guess by anomaly I mean not traditional. So my point is if you look at the sales and exclude the Wii, the sales trend for Wii U is line with what previous traditional Nintendo home consoles have done...a 30% decrease in users from the previous console.

The Wii was a sales anomaly. Nintendo had been losing approximately 30% of its traditional gaming customers with each new home console release and the Wii U is right inline with this trend when comparing it to the Gamecube. Wii U will probably end up selling 10-15 million consoles in it's lifetime.

Also the underpowered argument irks me. If the game looks great in HD and the gameplay is terrific why does it matter what's going on inside the actual box. I can understand a developer caring but some gamers get too hung up on horsepower.

I own a Wii U and love it, from a gaming stand point it's terrific...but from a business stand point the console has to be considered a failure. Gamer loyalty is admirable but if you refuse to come to terms with this after Nintendo all but admitted it today than you really do have your head buried in the sand.

Drastic times! When Mario Kart 8 launches slash the price to $199 and take the hit, and create another Ambassador program for early adopters (eShop credit, free games...etc.) and hope for the best! Otherwise we might be getting introduced to a new console very soon.

@StarDust Out of the countless Nintendo doom and gloom articles I've been reading over the last few months and the 300+ comments on this article you had a good take!

Usually I see the same old rhetoric and tired arguments about Nintendo and third party support. I think people are ignoring game style preference. They could be giving COD away for free and I still wouldn't play it because I don't like that style of game. Again, i believe the 14-40 crowd who play Xbox and PS are just different than the 14-40 crowd that play Nintendo games. You may own one of each console but you still have go to console...mine is my 3DS. :)

@StarDust Totally agree with you. I think the Nintendo consumer is just a different type of gamer than a person who buys Sony & Microsoft consoles. Certainly not everyone, but most people, which is why third parties struggle even with a huge install base like Wii.

Having said that, I'm really loving Phoenix Wright and Monster Hunter on my 3DS but if you only buy a Nintendo console for first and second party games you will never go wrong...Super Mario 3D World puts on a clinic in game design. Too bad so many people are going to miss out on it. :(

I'm glad I pre-ordered Bravely Default. Based on the poll and comments it sounds like there's a lot of interest in this game. Hopefully Nintendo produced enough...don't want another shortage at launch like they had with Fire Emblem.
