When I originally completed the game I didn't even take any special note that the hospital prices were increasing, I virtually always had enough money to pay them anyway, and when lacking cash I just killed some easy enemies for a while until I had enough, so it was literally a non issue for me.

Big surprise, as usual anything released on a non Nintendo console gets automatically deducted 1 point, this game getting an 8 is to be frank a complete joke, it represents the pinnacle of 8-bit games from that period, clever, fun, rewarding, and with some of the best graphics of the time.

I'd give it a 10 (on par with Mario 3) but seeing as the TG-16 version is around I guess it'd have to be knocked down a point as it has slightly lower quality sound and sprites, though to be honest where it comes to the TG-16 game I have as much interest in playing a Wonder Boy game...without Wonder Boy as I do of playing a classic Mario game with the Mario sprite replaced by a janitor wearing a baseball cap.

And I don't see you guys deducting points from the NES game Adventure Island, even though it is FAR inferior to the same game on the Master System

2D_Dreamer: The Master System most certainly did not sell "about the same as the NES" in the UK, it absolutely obliterated it, the NES only started to make inroads during the last year or two of it's life here, whilst the Master System sold consistantly for the early years and then had an upsurge when the budget Master System II was released, the console lasted well into the mid 90s, years after the NES had disappeared from the shelves.

6 is too low for this game, I doubt you've even played it enough to review it, the best thing about the gameplay is getting adept at pushing the force pod type thing into the bosses allowing you to kill them much faster, if you want to bring up reviews Mean Machines Sega rated this game 88% when it came out way higher than they rated Steel Empire and only 1% lower than Gynoug (which came out earlier)

What a worthless review of a classic game, supremely well-designed levels, tons and tons of depth with all the different costumes, secrets and tricks, a grim and foreboding atmosphere, masses of variety, and a proper challenge that lasts, it's a total classic, maybe it doesn't quite stack up to Mario 3 and World specifically but how many games do? and this game has a real feel and style of it's own that sets it apart anyway.

I've been thinking, is it actually possible for Mayhem in Monsterland to run on NTSC anyway? the game was PAL only and Nintendo don't seem willing to muck about with NTSC games to get them running properly for Europe so they probably won't do the opposite either, maybe thats the reason why the C64 on VC will never go to the US.

Great Game, absolutely nothing like Gauntlet at all, it's very strategy orientated and has a kind of pokemon "gotta catch em all" feel to it with all the different collectable characters. Trying out a new character is never "dull" at any stage, everytime you pick a new guy up to join your army you want to find out what he can do. This is actually the worst review I've read on the site so far.

jesus_666 commented on EU VC Releases: Master System Sonic & Two C64 ...:

No they're not. But i'll admit they are pretty decent games, Last Ninja 2 was actually one of the first games I ever bought for my C64 (along with Saint Dragon), and I did get some enjoyment from it over the years, also Uridium is pretty good too, they are just both very low on my priorities list compared to other C64 games.

I'm starting to lose hope that they'll ever release any good C64 games on the VC. Wheres the Rainbow Arts games?!! where's the Thalamus games?!? where are the Codemasters games?!?! where's the Ocean games?!!?!?!? The C64 Virtual Console is an utter joke :@

When I play Double Dragon on the C64 I feel mildly bored, when I play Cybernoid I feel as though a seven year old is making me punch myself weakly whilst repeating "stop hitting yourself" over and over for half hour whilst Joe Pasquale is doing a rendition of "I know a song that'll get on your nerves"

Don't believe the hype, this was always a truely abysmal game that relied more on the high quality graphics and sound (for it's time) than any kind of merit gameplay wise. The game is basicaly a flick screen shooter, where you travel from screen to screen shooting enemies and dodging dangers, there is no difficulty curve to speak of, and surviving many of the screens is completely reliant on luck.
