Hotfusion commented on The Legend of Zelda for Wii U No Longer Set fo...:

I am disappointed as it was one of the two Wii u games that I am getting ( or planned on getting ) this year. The others don't really interest me.

If Nintendo has no plans of showing this at E3, that is a major curiosity. They did a Direct about Zelda Wii U before so why the sudden halt in info?

I cannot help but think this game is being redeveloped for the NX, which I think will arrive in 2016.

The five year console release cycle doesn't mean anything when a console's sales are worst than even the Dreamcast after almost a two and a half years.

Best to dump it and try to get back to making serious profits ( even if only a percentage of the kind they were making in the late 2000s ) with a new console sooner, rather than hanging on to a console that will never accomplish anything near that.

It's all about the money, after all. It's business.

Hotfusion commented on Iwata: Nintendo NX Will Surprise People And Ch...:

Nintendo need to appeal to the masses to be successful. Fanboys going on about "I don't care, I will buy it regardless" are not going to bring in the wii era profits. Ultimately as a business this is all Nintendo cares about, huge profits, not the relative loose change they are picking up in 2015 - compared to cash machine of the latter part of the last decade.

If this is yet another underpowered gimmicky console then only the fanboys will be buying it and going from the Wii U sales they aren't going to be many of those left in the wild.

I agree with Iwata about its more that just boosting the hardware power and leaving it at that. But my thinking is whatever it is you are planning to do, significantly boosting the hardware power must be a major part of it.

Hotfusion commented on Review: Mario Party 10 (Wii U):

Never cared for this game but that didn't mean I wouldn't get it if it turned out to be something I can enjoy. Unfortunately, it hasn't.

I live with my fiancée who cares little for console gaming. My friends have probably never seen a Wii U, besides they wouldn't want to play "kiddy" games. It is not like the console is popular in the UK.

For someone in my sad predicament not having online is a no buy.

Hotfusion commented on Sonic Team Boss States That There Are No Plans...:

Srga has been losing money for a while now or so I have read. I don't think any Sonic game can revitalise the franchise.

Sonic is overplayed and needs to retire more so on consoles. I doubt they are enough people that care about Sonic anymore ( except those on this site ) to make another game profitable.

I read this as: "No plans to drop Sonic on home consoles" really means "We are seriously thinking of dropping Sonic on home consoles".

Dude, I am with you 100%. I don't care which company or product it is (maybe not entirely product).

If a company can't be bother to get a product that is basically a freakin' basic plastic toy with basic technology to markets - even after so much time, they don't deserve getting my hard earned cash. They are not making enough effort to warrant that.
I understand the initial "out of stock" rubbish to garner hype but this is becoming ridiculous.

"I Regardless of how often I do or do not mention Sony or Microsoft, or Steam or Android or Apple, or Sega--why does that even matter? Why should that upset you?"

It doesn't upset me as much as annoys me. Like the same annoying people that post on my football club's forum about other clubs over and over again.

For example, (if you are an American) say you support the Giants and post on a fans forum but one guy is always going on about the greatness of the Raiders or Bears.

This is a Nintendo specific forum and constantly throwing up the marvels of PS4 and Xbox every two minutes in EVERY argument is something I do find annoying.

As I clearly stated, sometimes this is necessary but every fool knows that the Wii U is NOT as successful as the competition because of Nintendo, hardware, third party support, marketing or any such matter relative to any or all of the four. It doesn't need to be repeated every other post in different words.

But man, this is not my site. Do whatever you want, I was just putting that out there.

Carry on doing your job promoting the Xbox, it doesn't annoy THAT much, only in the confines of this forum.

As for SOME fanboys you are wasting your time. If Nintendo put bird poo in a box and said it was the best thing ever SOME fans would support it.
This goes for that peculiar group MS and Sony fanatics too.

Dealing with facts and reality is one thing, dealing with some fans is another.
Does God exist? Is there life on other planets? Republic or Democrat?
These are easier to discuss.

My views on Nintendo: Few years ago they were printing money, now they are collecting loose change (relatively speaking). This is an earthquake of a change.

It doesn't matter how much "fun" Iwata keeps saying he wants in Nintendo games. If only a few people care about them Nintendo will never return to its former glory or financial worth. I personally think there is a much darker side to this QoL.

Hotfusion commented on Iwata Remains Positive on the Future of the Wi...:

I never said that in every post you mention MS or Sony, I said in every thread.
Regardless of the topic, if you post ten comments at least one.. maybe two..god forbid, even three, would be singing the praises of MS mostly and Sony.

What's funny is that you are telling one of Nintendo's biggest, that there is more to life than Nintendo.

Maybe I should buy that 3DS thing, put away my PS4, redundant my X360 and spend more time on my pitifully few Nintendo games and see if this is true.

To be honest I agree with you on a whole lot of things and respect your reasoning in most cases. Sometimes your delivery, however, can be condescending.

Hotfusion commented on Nintendo Held Back Western Launch Of New 3DS D...:

According to Iwata "in hindsight it would have been better to launch the console before christmas in the west".

Gezus!! It must take a degree at Nintendo's business school to figure that one out.

EVERYONE want their brand new shiny consoles out in time for christmas in the west these days... but not Nintendo.

Stock should have been no issue with intelligent planning.

All I hear from Nintendo these days is stock issues. Yet the new 3DS hasn't broken any sales records and amiibo is not exactly selling like iphones.

Hotfusion commented on Iwata Remains Positive on the Future of the Wi...:

Nintendo is not doomed.. the Wii U is. Until the day Nintendo gives a financial breakdown of all their products assuming, the Wii U makes money is speculation. Most likely the Gameboy covered the GameCube's rear end the same way the 3DS is covering the Wii U's. The same way MS other products like Office, Surface, patents, etc., covered up the Xbox division losses.

Making a profit is the very base denominator of running a business. Making significant profits is the difference between company A and company B.
Most won't invest in companies that is going to make a basic profit. They try to invest in companies that is going to make huge profits.

The day you comment on a thread without ever mentioning the MS, Xbox or PS is the day that won't come. And yes, I mentioned MS in this post to get a point across, but rarely ever do.

So yes, there are times when the comparison is necessary, but not every damn time. Are you being paid?

Hotfusion commented on Nintendo is Not Moving Away From Games For QoL...:

Apple (maybe Android) is also getting "health conscious". I already have an phone app that monitors my sleep pattern call "Sleep Cycle".. or something of the sorts. Hardly ever use it.

The Apple watch is promoting health strongly before it's launch.

I am not saying what Nintendo are doing is wrong, there is not that much detail out there about this QoL. It just seems to me that in this day and age when smart phones can fetch you a can a beer, that anything Nintendo can come up with regarding this QoL can easily be replicated with a smart phone that every already has.

If there are many peripherals involved then that's a different matter. After the flop of Wii Fit U I wish them all the best.

I understand Nintendo must diversify and I am all for it but this seems strange.

Hotfusion commented on The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D Tops Jap...:

Now that the software is coming the PS4 has finally found its feet.

Kirby is disappointing. I really don't see it doing very well in the west either.
Wii U sales normal, which is a good thing.

Is it actually worth MS being in Japan? XB1 will be in the double digits soon.
That massive ad campaign I read about was definitely a waste of money.

Hotfusion commented on Splatoon Developers Give a Splash of Informati...:

I remember when this game was announced at E3 last year, the reception was mixed. Nintendo forums around the globe (at least the English speaking ones) where not overly impress, at least that is the impression I got.

Yet this game was the best thing of Nintendo E3 for me. It was the only game across all platforms that made me think to myself "now that's different".
Not different in genre, but unique in style and character. It's hard to be different in a field where "everything has already been done" and we simply get a repainted (no pun) version of games over and over again.

I know it wouldn't appeal to the XB1 gun ho yank types or the PS4 blood and guts type. But Nintendo should more than ever now release new IPs over the next couple years that would appeal to their Wii U fanbase.

Nothing is going to make those gamers who like powerful consoles buy a Wii U. Nothing is going make most of those who love the 3rd party games buy a Wii U.
Nothing is going to make those who were disappointed in the Wii buy a Wii U nor those fed up with an overdose of Mario.

It's all about rebuilding for Nintendo and this E3 is the perfect opportunity to do that. Many more new IPs, please.

Hotfusion commented on Satoru Iwata Highlights Growth of Wii U Sales ...:

All home consoles are having rather crappy sales in Japan, not just the Wii U.

However I don't see the Wii U getting anywhere near 20m. What we are seeing is the after effects of MK8 and more recently SSB.

Not saying VGCharts is the most reliable (but its better than nothing and they have done a good job tracking the Wii u to within a few thousand over the last two years) but it seems Febuary going into March is going to show Wii U back into dreaded 30k a week WorldWide region again.

Nintendo need to pull off another super E3 and even that will probably only appeal to its fanboys rather than drive hardware sales. I do believe milking the fanboys is the only way to sustain the Wii U because few outside of them are interested in the console. Amiibo is a good start.

Hotfusion commented on Reaction: Satoru Iwata Holds Off on Major Anno...:

Yes, Nintendo made very good money during the GC era but if you think much of that money was made by a rubbish selling GameCube you are mistaken. The huge success of the Gameboy and Pokemon etc., easily covered the liabilities of the GC.
That's why Nintendo won't do a Sega, because unlike Sega Nintendo has a top selling portable to cover the Wii U which is selling worst than the Dreamcast did.

The Wonderful 101 was a major flop and very unlikely to ever make a comeback. Platinum was all talk about a sequel before the game even launched worldwide.
After the bomb that followed such talk was quickly put to bed.

However, I really enjoyed the game. It was on sale at half price not long after release.

I just think that games like Bayonetta are meant to be short.

Not really into handhelds but thought I would give the N3DS a try and planned to get one soon after launch.... until I found out it uses old 2003 wifi technology that I want no where near my home network.

Shame but hopefully I will get the next revision, or the one after, or the one after the one after...

Hotfusion commented on January NPD Results Bring Improvement for Wii ...:

Sports games may "suck" for some but they are a guaranteed money printer every year. Business is about giving the buying public what they want... though to be honest a very good business can get people to buy what they don't really want. I won't mention any names.

According to two sources the Wii FIFA 15 sold between 360k and 400k.
To be honest that's not bad given the state of the Wii. I don't know the maths but surely that should repay EA the investment.

The question is would it have even sold that on the Wii U?

Hotfusion commented on Satoru Iwata Shares Confidence in Hitting Targ...:

I hear you, man. Some people really don't care for PS4 etc., games. They just like Nintendo games. Yes, there are not many of them going from the poor sales of the Wii U, but they exist none the less.

For example nothing exclusive on the Xbone interest me at all. Couldn't care less for it.
MS won't miss my money.

The Wii U on the other hand is viewed exactly the same way by many gamers.

On Topic:
Unless Nintendo makes a sudden change and develope games that cater to the much larger majority PS4 and XB1 gamers, they only have their fans to work with. I don't think it is currently in their capacity to change their gaming genre.

The only growth that I can conceive Iwata is talking about is mainly software, and having to totally support the consoles themselves I don't see that much growth there either.

Iwata can say what he wants but he has said all sort of things in the past that never materialised. E3 will give a much clearer indication of the Wii U's future.

If it's sales fall sharply this year there is little chance of significant growth and all chance of a new console sooner rather than later.

Hotfusion commented on Talking Point: The New Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo ...:

I am not that keen on handheld consoles. Yes, I owned a gameboy all those centuries ago but since that time they do not appeal to me. I won a PSP at a work Christmas raffle but gave it to my younger brother.

The new 3DS seemed like a good console to try out handhelds again at a reasonable price. However (according to Wikipedia) the new 3DS comes with ancient wifi technology, namely 801.11 b/g at 54 Mb/s. I recently upgraded my router to 801.11ac at 500Mb/s. The dual band 801.11n runs at 300Mb/s to match my PC's wifi. The Wii U is wired via a usb network adapter.

To put a slow outdated NEW 3DS wifi on my network will slow everything down to 54Mb/s. This will never do based on the network traffic generated in my household.

This is what I find frustrating about Nintendo today. Their love for cheap, outdated technology mixed with new innovation.

Of course this matters little to some people but to each their own.

Over the weekend it took damn near three hours just to copy 28 GB of data from the system to a new external hard drive.

I love their games and all that but I can no longer claim their hardware as quality.

Hotfusion commented on Talking Point: Limitations on Stock and Advert...:

A weak Yen is the major thing making Nintendo Finances look respectable. People that think it is Nintendos genius alone is way off the mark.

They also had a stellar year with their biggest selling franchises out on the Wii U and 3DS.

Now with fears of a rising Yen, no MK8 or SSB, this year will give a clearer indication of where Nintendo's finances really are.

Don't get me wrong, I am sure Nintendo are doing their best to make the most of a bad situation.

I actually agree with them not wasting money on massive TV ad campaigns, for example. The Wii u is NOT a desirable console to the vast majority of people looking for a console and I believe - like they obviously do - that no amount of advertising is really going to change that. Lots of money saved there.

Caution seems to be the main reason behind the marketing and distribution of the Amiibos. This cannot be seen as a failure so drip feeding the market is deliberately done to keep interest high. Again I applaud this decision because it makes good sense. Flooding the market with Amiibos and having them gathering dust on shelves like the Wii U was would be seen as another nail.

The initial decisions made by the Nintendo with the Wii U was comical, but since then a lot of what they have done makes good economic sense. They are force to make the best of the horror they themselves created. The best they can hope for is to make as much money as possible from the 12m to 15m customers that will buy the console before it dies.

Hotfusion commented on Satoru Iwata Reiterates Plans for Quality of L...:

I can understand Nintendo expanding their business into other areas like health and education because as it stands they are failing miserably in the home console business.

3ds sales are falling more and more every year especially in the west so there is no bright future there either.

The problem ( and I speak for myself ) is that I don't give a rat's tail end about QoL or education. I only want games. I want about 2 or 3 games this year on the Wii U. The rest don't interest me. I wish there were more games to give me more options but alas, they screwed up the third-parties ( yes I said that, if you think differently you are entitled to do that) by producing a console not many people want to own, know what it is or that it even exist due to pathetic marketing. Now they are struggling to support it on their own.

Do they think they can compete in the education market now tablets are mainstream with a billion educational apps? My nephews have some amazing educational apps on the iPad that can be cast to the telly. The 3DS was used in some schools in Japan but that was before the tablets made them obsolete. I really cannot see how they intend to take a piece of this market but maybe they see something I don't. Then again i saw the Wii u was going to flop and they didn't, but to be honest I didn't see it doing worst than the dreamcast.

Hotfusion commented on Nintendo YouTube Creators Program Update Clari...:

Of course they are gonna pretend that a large number of people applied.

Hell, whenever I applied for a job in the past I was always told that a large number of people applied... which later I found out in many cases is rubbish. Now I do the same thing even if the person I am telling it to was the only applicant. You have to make people think the position is sought after by many.

Nothing wrong with doing this and a I am not knocking Nintendo for doing what is normal but I dont believe it. I was waiting for the spin.

Hotfusion commented on Famitsu Article Reportedly Inks Out More Splat...:

Nintendo is so out of touch with the reality of modern home console gaming that they probably have not yet figured out why the Wii U is selling so poorly.

They cannot attract core gamers with this "kiddie" mentality. "Core gamers" apparently have standards and this ain't it, hardware or software wise.

There are those that want VC and there are those that don't. Why not please everyone and give them the option? If they don't want it because of kids or whatever disable it in parental control.

I am looking forward to this game but I don't expect immense sales.. Relatively speaking of course.

Hotfusion commented on Editorial: Nintendo's YouTube Creators Program...:

Don't see what all the fuss is about. If you make money doing this kind of stuff on youtube then just dont do it with Nintendo games.

It is not like the Wii U is a top selling console. There is far more games and options with the PS4 and XBone.

If you like doing this kinda thing with Nintendo games then get a PS4 or whatever and carry on.

YouTubers like GameXplain etc., would have far more subscribers if they switched to MS or Sony and don't have to pay a penny.

Hotfusion commented on Talking Point: Star Fox for Wii U is an Ongoin...:

Never been a fan of StarFox. Maybe I will try this one if the feedback tingle my fingers.

As for the next ND I feel it is going to be heavily 3DS biased with maybe a bit of Splatoon thrown in.

Nintendo will keep their powder dry for E3 where the WiiU is concerned.

Hotfusion commented on Ubisoft Launches Yet Another Massive eShop Sal...:

Those prices are ridiculous. I got ZombiU for £6.50 ( roughly US$12 ) from Amazon early last year. I have seen WatchDogs for £10.00 ( roughly $18 ) in some shops and I could have had it for £14.00 new from Amazon last month.

These games will all be far cheaper in stores or online.

But then again Nintendo games are the same. I got the Wonderful 101 and Pikmin 3 for £22.00 total whereas they cost £49.00 each to download at the time.

I suppose you pay double or treble for the convenience of downloading the game but I am tight.

Hotfusion commented on Nintendo Stays in Profit With Wii U on Target,...:

I agree with you and have believed this for a while. I am referring to Nintendo surviving on its own dedicated fan base.

However at the very minimum they must clear 20m home consoles userbase to get a decent return.
I have long argued that with all that money Nintendo made last gen, some should have been reinvested in creating or purchasing studios so that a steady stream of quality games are always on tap. That way third parties won't matter.

This year there is no MK8 or SSB to boost profits but I expect them to at least stay in the black. Here's hoping for a brilliant E3 to create interest over the holidays this year.

Hotfusion commented on Retailer The Hut Believes The Wii U Now Has A ...:

The Wii U has definitely been selling better in the UK but the install base is still ridiculously poor at around 300K (Nov 2014). Nintendo France said last month that just under 500k has been sold in France since launch which I THINK is the best in Europe.
The "kiddie console" image in the UK has destroyed the Wii U.

Can't argue with the games though. Superb quality. Just need more people to care and want to buy the console to play the games apart from fans... and here lies the problem. You can make the best games ever but if only a handful of people buy them the financial reward is underwhelming because of a very poor install base.

@Zen Turtle
If the Wii U get anywhere near the GameCube sales (approx. 22m) that would be an outstanding success. I held on to the belief that this was still possible until MK8 and even SSB. Now I am 90% this won't happen.

Making the best games to keep the fans that brought the console happy is now pretty much all Nintendo can do. Mainstream marketing of the console has virtually ceased.
It is such a shame that these awesome games will reach very few people.

Hotfusion commented on Watch: Catch Up With the North American, Europ...:

Have to wait until May for the first Wii U game to interest me this year.
Loving Slaptoon. I hope it sells enough to keep a healthy online community.

Why is it sometimes Xenoblade looks pretty good and other times it looks like a PS3 game done badly? Maybe it's just me... then again I watched it on a 52" TV probably in a low res.

Have no interest in 3DS games so for me it was a pretty uninspiring Direct.

Oh, will download SMG2 at half price. That was another bit of good news.
Never finished that game on the Wii. A friend came over to see me and "borrowed" it all those long years ago. He is now living in Australia.

Hotfusion commented on Digital Foundry Ponders Next-Gen Hardware Opti...:

The Wii U is a disaster. Full stop. Nintendo's whole image is in decline. The vast majority of people buying consoles in 2015 (and those in 2014) do not give a rat's backside about the Wii U or Mario. The figures don't lie. If Mario was so freaking great (among the general gaming public) the 35m that bought MK8 would have come back for more.. or at least 25% of them. The 10m plus that bought Galaxy would have come back for 3D World.

I am tired of saying this but Nintendo home consoles now ONLY appeal to a shrinking number of fans. No company can survive on these crappy sales. I don't care who they are.

A companies first priority and objective is to make as much money as possible.
Pleasing the consumer is important but secondary. Pleasing a few people is pointless if there is no substantial reward for a company of Nintendos stature.

This whole Mickey Mouse, kiddie, cartoony image that Nintendo loves to uphold is now being viewed by the consumer as negative and stale. To The few true fans it's awesome but to those that bought the Wii last gen and probably experienced it for the first time or not experienced it in a long time it obviously left a bad taste. Not to mention pitiful support, no sport games etc.,

Even if you argue that the other consoles bring nothing new at least they are selling on a different planet compared to the Wii u.

Unless Nintendo seriously reinvigorate this "kiddie theme" or create another "genre" of gaming environment I see an impossible task.

Don't get me wrong, I respect Nintendo for doing their own thing and trying to be different but it is not working. It can work, I am sure. But they need to seriously revamp their ideas and from what I have gathered from Fusion and QoL or whatever, I do not think they have quite nailed it. Time will tell.

As for the new console, whenever it turns up, sooner rather than later I hope, it better be damn powerful or have a hyper gimmick like the wii mote.
If they come with a gimmick like the gamepad or release a console only slightly better than the current gen they have no chance and will just be digging a bigger hole than the one they are in.

It amazes me that some fans see it different but for me it is better to get out the business if you intend to throw money away for the next few years because you have it in the bank to throw away. Better off giving it charity.. or me.

Hotfusion commented on Nintendo Dominated Japan During 2014, Despite ...:

Yep, Nintendo games do have good legs unlike games on the other consoles. They stay in the charts forever.

Ultimately if a game sells 5m in a week or 5m in a year it is still 5m sales. Personally if I was a publisher I would rather take the income in a week rather than a year but that's me. After a few months the price drops.

But as a gamer it's good because they are always a fresh batch of players coming online.

Hotfusion commented on Nintendo Dominated Japan During 2014, Despite ...:

Good for the Wii U.... in Japan. Why does MS even bother with Japan?
They don't need it. Europe and NA is where the battleground and the big money is.

Japan pales to further insignificance every year where home consoles are concerned.

Hotfusion commented on Talking Point: Nintendo's Wise to Embrace The ...:

The big question, IS IT WORKING?
Would it not be a better choice to hit the TV channels like Sony and MS whose consoles are either treble (XBOX) or quadruple (PS4) the Wii U sales last month? Could be by a lot more when all is added up.

To answer my own question, I don't think so.
I don't think splashing money on TV ads is really going to do much for the Wii U. It's an image thing. Far more people want to play the games on the other consoles than play a game with Mario in it... again.

Nintendo are not that stupid, they know the Wii U is a disaster - although they will never admit to it, what company would?

So in a nutshell, I think they are doing the right thing. Hang in there, let the 3DS be the bread basket for the next couple or so years and see the generation out as far as they can.

Hotfusion commented on Feature: A Nintendo 2014 Retrospective - Janua...:

E3 was the highlight of Nintendo's 2014 for me.
There was a moment when I thought they might just turn it around and reach at least 9m sold by end of last year.

Some people say sales don't matter, just enjoy the console, but that's rubbish.
Sales matter when I can't have a decent game of Mario Kart 8 online until the U.S.A comes home because they are pitiful few Wii Us in the UK and Europe.

I really hope Nintendo have a better 2015 but I really can't see that happening.
Unlike you I think it is way too late to save the Wii U. The image of the console is badly damaged and Nintendo games just don't apeal to the mainstream like they use to, only fans. This is evident because Wii U games just don't sell consoles like the other systems. The games themselves sell well enough but it is obvious a high percentage of people who play these games have long since owned the console.

Saying all that this will be the best year for me personally. Zelda and Splatoon, X and although I am doubtful of it ever coming to the Wii U, Project Cars.

Hope I didn't go to much off-topic as the article is about Jan-Mar 2014. But seeing I don't own a 3DS and only DK happen on the Wii U for the first six months last year I thought I'd do the whole year.

Hotfusion commented on Feature: The Biggest Wii U Games of 2015:

Although I am pretty sure it will sell pitifully poor, Splatoon is what interest me most. Will pick up Zelda at some point.

I really hope Project Cars still come to the Wii U, though.

That's it. Don't care about anything else. Use to like Starfox but ...

Hotfusion commented on Satoru Iwata Highlights Frustration at Missed ...:

When I said Nintendo fans I meant Fans of their home consoles.
Personally I don't own a 3DS or want one so your point made regarding the 3DS being the drug for other gamers that needs their Nintendo fix didn't occur to me.
If this is indeed the case (I am not saying it is or isn't) their whole strategy needs a major rethink beyond Fusion - based on what I think Fusion is - but without hard facts this is conjecture.

I don't have the figures but someone somewhere that did the science shows handheld gaming is in decline. It is natural for this to be the case based on other options like phones etc. As a games only company this needs addressing by Nintendo. How they go about this is for those employees who get paid the big bucks, not me.

Being the odd one out and trying to be different didn't work this time around with the Wii U.

My reasoning was the Wii U should have been positioned as the second console for xbox and PS owners. However many of these owners couldn't care less for Mario or any Nintendo game hence the poor sales of the console.
I believe games in the mould of Bayonetta, Devils third etc would have helped if there were around from the first year of the Wii U.

Hotfusion commented on Satoru Iwata Highlights Frustration at Missed ...:

It's more than just a console that Nintendo needs to rethink. Going from the poor sales of not only the Wii U but the huge drop off of consumers returning for more MK and SSB this generation shows that few people actually care for Mario ( or rather Nintendo games ) anymore.
The Wii excelled because it had a gimmick, was cheaper and more importantly it became the second console for many x360 and PS3 owners.
This time around mainly Nintendo fans bought the Wii U and looking at its sales there aren't many.

A large part of the Wii U's failure is Nintendo's image. To it's fans Nintendo is a great platform for adults and kids alike.
To everyone else it is a kiddies console that no kid in the UK would admit to owning and every damn game is Mario.
The market has evolved but Nintendo is stuck in the past. As long as Iwata is president I don't see anything changing.

I don't care how long the company has been going or how much money they have in the bank. That doesn't make it invincible.

Nintendo needs to reinvent themselves and that requires far more than a powerful multimedia console.

As it stands there just aren't that many Nintendo fans that want a wii u. To keep the Wii U for more than two more years is just not possible.

As the other consoles get cheaper - I mean I have seen them for £299.00 this year, and the games begin to flow, things for the Wii u will get worst. This was it's best year with its biggest system sellers and compare to the competition it got slaughtered.

Nintendo is talking next gen because they know the Wii u is drowning in their mistakes.

Hotfusion commented on Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire Enjoy Biggest UK P...:

Personally I think I could have done a better job. Seriously though if you think this all comes down to this one bad news article you are way off the mark.

What is being said here is pretty much the same that has been said over a year and a half now... based on numerous "bad news articles".

And yes, I do enjoy my Wii U as you do. However I was lead to believe I would have enjoyed it a whole lot more by Nintendo and that has nothing to do with sales.

The fact that Nintendo find it so hard to supply a handful of games to a small UK base is pathetic. Either they think we don't matter anymore or simply they don't care about the anymore.

I am fed up of having to hunt Wii U games (their biggest games this gen) down because I rather own a physical copy than a download,

MS is a lost cause in Japan but still they make an effort. I am not saying that Nintendo should spend the huge amount MS does, but by the gods at least make an effort.

Retailers in the UK just don't stock Wii U games because the console has sold so poorly here.

And before anyone says it, I only buy physical copies of games. Why? Because I rather.

I saw the PS4 version of WatchDogs on the shelf (probably second hand) for £15. Next to was a price tag saying "£49.99 for Wii U" version.

As much as I wanted the Wii U version before UbiSoft's decision to delay it, I cannot justify paying that much money for the Wii U version when I have still have a PS3 (I now also have a PS4).

There would have to be something totally special in the Wii U version to take my money. Apparently this is not the case.

Even if I only owned a Wii U and had Carlos Slim's daily allowance I would still consider this a raw deal.

People like to complain about Nintendo fans attitude towards third-party games and indeed some of it is warranted.
In this case however, I truly believe Nintendo fans are truly being taken for mugs.

BTW I would definitely had bought this game for the Wii U if it had been released at the same time as the others, that is 100% truth.

Hotfusion commented on Bayonetta 2 Falls From UK Charts After One Week:

Niche my backside. I read - if it is true - that platinum was hoping for at the high end 1m sales.
This is no cheap remake. If they want to make any real money the game must perform much better than it is currently.
Niche or not games must sell to keep the devs in business.
When Nintendo learn to market their console and the games on it maybe some third parties may show interest.
As it stands I don't blame them for ditching a system that the manufacturers themselves can't be bothered to promote.

I agree with you. Ultimately it is the sales that matters because money does. Like you I don't imagine those involved with the game will be popping the champagne quite yet.
People expect much better sales for Bayonetta 2 in the west but I don't.
I find that the Wii u is the one console that sales are represented quite equally (relative to user base) across all markets.
I will let time tell.
