@JJtheTexan that my friend is famitsu in a nutshell and has been like that for a number of years now. It really is promo material rather than what we as gamers would like it to be. Famitsu is like reading the back of the game box, a lot of info but nothing significant in terms of an opinion about the actual quality of the game and it's mechanics etc

Was on team sleep so didn't end well. Don't agree with popularity being a factor but it was good fun all the same. This being my first splat fest, I really liked the 3 stage rotation (should be standard )and night time themed stages. In future, I hope they extend the time slot, one day seems a little on the short side I think..

@Kirk in all your posts you've pretty much summed up my thoughts on sfz as a whole. Personally, I do feel that ill end up enjoying it a lot upon release, gyro controls or not. Though I cant help but feel that I would have enjoyed it a lot more if they would have stuck to its true shooting game roots which is what made it an amazing game in the first place but just cranked everything to 11 like you described. The main reason why I dislike the gamepad dual screen setup for sfz is having to flip between 2 screens while playing a relatively fast paced action style game is ludicrous, humans just aren't designed to look at two separate things in detail at the same time, just doesn't work. So constantly changing between tv and gamepad is the only physically possible thing to do and that in itself doesnt feel intuitive at all. Having said all this, im still looking forward to playing it and im sure ill enjoy it and hope you do too as you sound like a big fan of star fox/wing. On a side note, to all those who are saying the graphics aren't bad, seriously? Ive seen better lighting and bloom effects on the ps2 for f sakes, and that's considered a retro console now!

@garthvader chuckiie egg was a particular highlight for me on the 65xe I think, also remember getting stuck on the dizzy games a lot! Most cherished memory however, was waiting for the cassette tape to load and watching that counter thing go up slowly only to freeze and crash after waiting ages. Almost makes overpriced dlc and microtransactions bearable...almost..

@JaxonH its a first party Nintendo game dude, of course I have splatoon😜! Not really tried the gyro in that though simply because ive not played it myself for more than a few hours so havent had time to try them and get used to them but when I get around to playing it ill give it a bash for sure. 100% agree with you about implementation though, my guess is that is the problem rather than nything inherently to do gyro controls. Like in witcher 3, geralt is a pain to control in tight spaces at speed, nothing wrong with analogues just bad implementation. Dont even get me started on horse controls...

@garthvader dude I had 1 of them too!! Thats the 1 with the cartridges right? Man I feel old...I dont think the visuals gonna change too much tbh (too far along maybe?) Which is a shame because sfz with mk8 type production values and presentation would've been a sight to behold. You're bang on though, Nintendo+platinum means we practically guaranteed a game that plays well. In fact, if it's similar to sf64 in gameplay terms then itll be one of the wii us best games, high praise indeeed

@JaxonH I guarantee you we aint playing games like we did in 1989, trust me I was there. To answer your question, in my experience, nobody has nailed gyro controls yet so I will always prefer dual sticks for now as they feel better, more precise more tactile than gyro. Obviously im not stating that as a fact, im just saying it feels better for me to control a game like that, the synergy between brain, eyes, hands and screen seems more intuitive. The gyro ccontrols in starfox do at least make me want to try them as it looks fun as long as I have option to use what suits me ultimately, be it gyro or othetwise.

@garthvader I agree, ill certainly be trying it mainly because it looks fun to play in that way, something different and novel. Having played games since the atari 65xe (google it!) Im no stranger to change or progress etc, im just experienced enough to understand that different doesn't always mean better. People will always adapt to change easily, as long as it is better. I never used a d pad until I had a nes but loved as it was better, same with shoulder buttons, dual analogues etc so I thought it was a little harsh of ypu to brand ps/xbox owners as luddites almost who hate change. Agreed about the players though, I thought the day 3 treehouse player was the only 1 that did it justice. And watching the yoshi players, my god, nearly put me off buying the game!

heyzeus002 commented on Nintendo Says That Star Fox Zero's Gyro Contro...:

@garthvader different doesnt always mean better and presumably some people prefer the tactile nature of standard controls im guessing. So glad to hear this, want to replicate old school starfox controls aand fèel as much aas possible personally. With regards to the right stick being taken up, you neever actually used it a 2nd stick for control, main analogue dealt with ship and reticle movement so dont see hpw that would be an issue. After watching more of SFZ im quite looking foreard to it after a very underwhelming showing at the NDE, treehouse footage made it look much better. Not visually naturally, still looks like a dolphin game.

Super hyped for this, day 1 download on friday for me, been my most wanted game this year followed closely by metal gear 5. I feel I should dial down the hype though as I feel yoshis island snes will not be beaten anytime soon. glad its reviewed well. On a side note, hope the nx is region free as the US wait for this seems ridiculous. And mean..

@Peach64 believe it or not their eyes are very much open but like sony, microsoft and any other company in any other industry, they will charge what people are willing to pay (the cardinal rule of pricing). The fact is that as long as people pay these prices they will stay like that. Looking across all 3 console manufacturers and their stores and the prices therein, the fact is that many people must be willing to pay otherwise they would be cheaper. And to think, I can remember a time when devs and publishers used to attribute the high cost of games to "manufacturing costs" of cartridges and manuals etc. 15 years and an education later, however, I realise they were talking the proverbial brown stuff. Personally, I dont mind downloading nintendo titles as they generally hold their value and I dont tend to trade my nintendo stuff.

@Shinnos as a few others have said, I dont think smash dlc is bad, its just more in line with industry standards. In other words its not good value and is just aimed at maximising revenue. Mk8 on the other hand is generous. Tbh, in my view mk8 dlc is fair but seems so so much better when compared to near enough every other game. I seem to recall being able to buy dantes old hairstyle for about 1.60£ in the dmc reboot, hair raising pricing indeed or the destiny dlc which is so bad in terms of price and content that activision must literally be laughing as to how crazy gamers must actually be to support that kind of thing.

@Xilef dude, you HAVE to get runner 2 especially at that price. It embodies the very spirit of videogames and has in spades the very attributes that led to many a soul falling in love with gaming in the first place. If you don't have the required space then you need to go ahead and delete some stuff. Cannot recommend it enough, phenomenal game indeed.

@lbs is it not £50 in game as well? Im pretty sure it would be but I may be wrong. If you're looking for somewhere a little cheaper, I find grainger games quite good. They tend to be cheaper and seem to deliver a day early. Ive ordered pikmin, sonic and mario world from there and had them all a day earlier and they've all been cheaper than game

The w101 was hands down my goty last year and b2 probably will be for this year.im just glad that in spite of continued low sales, platinum are still around making games that they want even though they aren't going to be million sellers. Also, b2 and w101 were the reaons that I bought a wii u in the first place. For the first time, I bought a nintendo machine for non nintendo developed games which speaks volumes with regards to p*'s quality.

@Jazzer94 id love it if it did sell better even more so as it would be in the running for game of year in this or any other year but im not optimistic.none of platinums games have sold well (barring mgr revengeance) and that was probably due to mgs license.i just hope that p☆ either keep going independently or nintedo buys them out. @bouncer0304 it's arguably much better than w101 which incidentally was my game of the year last year so if you enjoyed that then rest assured, you're in safe hands:-)

also an eight does not do this masterpiece justice, i demand a recount or a full blown riot at NLife towers, whichever one is easiest to organise. one of the gems of last gen and my personal best game of the generation and that's no mean feat as street fighter 4 was also in the mix (my 2nd best game of last gen)
oct 24 seems so far away.CAN NOT WAIT. (but obviously have to...)

@BLPs sounds like a good old fashioned power trip to me. With regards to the regulations I feel it's a no win situation. Game shop staff, ultimately, can't say no to an age appropriate person even if they know for a fact the purchase is for a minor. The lanfuage thing iss ridiculously ridiculous, I still remember people having a huge problem with the game boy color when nintendo released it in uk using the us spelling

@BLPs good point. I've lost count of the amount that little 10 year old Johnny comes in to game shop to buy cod or whatever with their mums/dads, makes it all seem slightly pointless. The only problem I have with the directs is I find it tricky to temper my expectations.in spite of owning all 3 next gen machines, nintendo are closest to my heart due to being responsible for so many amazing experiences and memories over the years ever since I was a kid so for me the nintendo hype has no equal. Of course this is my fault and nothing to do with nintendo but its probably the only thing I don't like about the directs. More pertinently, I am ecstatic that we Europeans dont get treated like 5th class citizens anymore. That for me is the biggest thing nintendo have done.thank you sega dreamcast, you were seriously wounded but your soul still burns...
