Gamer83 commented on Nintendo Titles Struggle for a Presence in UK ...:

Don't know what the situation is like in Europe, but here in the US I didn't see much advertising for Yoshi's New Island. If it's the same case in the UK the sales numbers don't surprise. Especially given the mediocre reviews. The good news for Nintendo is Mario Kart 8 isn't too far off.

Gamer83 commented on Capcom Investing $80 Million in Two New R & D ...:

How utterly stupid. A company that has no money spending more of it. What Capcom should be doing with all its games right now is signing deals like it did with MS for Dead Rising 3. Sucks for people who own a certain console and want to play a certain game but at this point Capcom has f'ed itself so bad that that is what it needs to be doing. Not spending money it doesn't have on new R&D buildings. Reminds me of Sony spending money it doesn't have on useless stuff like VR. If you're going to run your company into the ground at least do it chasing something that makes sense.

Gamer83 commented on Super Smash Bros. Hitting 3DS This Summer, Wii...:

@LetsGoRetro

It's a shame that what excites people these days is crappy online multiplayer shooters. Nintendo isn't the problem, it's idiot consumers who buy broken trash like Battlefield 4 or drop $60 for an online only game like Titanfall. Now, I actually agree Nintendo has dropped the ball in a lot of ways with Wii U. With the exception of Virtual Boy, I've purchased every Nintendo system as soon as I possibly could, except Wii U. It took a sale at Target and finally some decent looking games on the horizon to get me to jump, and frankly if Xbox One wasn't $500, I probably would've got that system to sit alongside the PS4 first. But, not all of the Wii U's problems are Nintendo's own fault. The company is out of touch in some ways, in others, the problem is simply that 'gamers' are idiots.

By the way, not trying to be a Nintendo apologist here. I'm more of a PlayStation fan, but I feel like there's no middle ground when it comes to the way people react about Nintendo. You have the hardcore fans who just eat up whatever, then you have the people who act like the company is a complete disaster when that is also just as far from the truth. I'd love to see Nintendo branch out a bit, give Retro a stab at making a new IP, maybe snatch up some other Western studios to provide some WRPGs or whatever. Unfortunately that won't happen under Iwata. Of course, it's also difficult to say ousting him would be the right choice because the next guy could come in and appease the stock holders by going straight down the mobile route. That's the last thing the game industry needs.

@Yoshis_VGM

I'd bet money all three of those games release this year, before Smash, they're not really system sellers though and that seems to be the issue people have here, they feel Smash could've been a system seller, now that is put a little bit into doubt. If I'm being 100% honest, I thought ever since it was known there would be a 3DS version, that hurt sales potential for the Wii U version so this doesn't phase me too much. The best strategy probably would've been to make two separate entries and stagger the releases like Nintendo has done with Mario Kart. Might not have had the resources though.

@turnmebackwards

We don't know all Nintendo's plans yet. X is supposed to be this year so that could be a late-August/early-September release. Don't know much about Yarn Yoshi yet either. Maybe that's targeting summer? There has to be a reason Nintendo is doing this besides the simple fact the game was going to sell more on 3DS regardless of when that version was released because of the massive difference in userbase.

@ChoppedLiver

Well, the Wii U version will look superior could potentially have better controls and I'm sure some extra modes. I think it'll be worth it to have both versions if you own both consoles. But yeah, it may now not be the system-seller for Wii U that people wanted.

@gatorboi352

It's like the GameCube all over again. The GBA was Nintendo's bread and butter in those days, 3DS is Nintendo's money-maker now. The one good thing about Nintendo is it will ride things out for a while. It sucks that the Wii U isn't selling like hot cakes, it sucks that the lineup isn't as big or diverse as what 3DS has but it is what it is.

Gamer83 commented on Super Smash Bros. Hitting 3DS This Summer, Wii...:

@JaxonH

I could see it going either way. It could definitely get some 3DS owners interested in the Wii U version but there is that crowd that may just be satisfied enough with the 3DS version (depending how good it is). Either way, I can't get too fussed about sales because it's not like Nintendo is in danger of going out of business and 3DS is my primary Nintendo platform anyway. I just wish GameStop would start taking pre-orders. I'm willing to fully pay it off now, guess it just doesn't like money.

Gamer83 commented on Super Smash Bros. Hitting 3DS This Summer, Wii...:

Disappointed the Wii U version isn't in the Summer but on the plus side at least now I can say for sure I'll get both versions. While I'm not a fan of putting the 3DS version out first because I think Mario Kart 8 followed by Smash just a few months later could be huge to get U sales rolling from a business perspective this still kind of makes sense. If Mario Kart 8 does not push U sales you're looking at selling to a still very small userbase in the dry months of summer. The 3DS constantly sells and this game will be a big seller on that system so it's almost no-brainer to put it out there first.

Unfortunately since Nintendo is so damn secretive all the time, we don't know other summer plans. If X is in fact a summer release maybe it doesn't want that game overshadowed? And the late 2014 release suggests that there might not be much in the way of a big holiday release (Mario came out last year and surely Zelda is a ways off) for Wii U, but there could be some big stuff for 3DS and so it wanted to get Smash out of the way sooner rather than later. We'll have to see at E3, depending on what's announced this will either seem like a decent move or an ill-advised decision.

@Action51

Thanks, I definitely plan to get Donkey Kong at some point. Will be getting Super Mario 3D World when I find it and pre-ordering Mario Kart 8 as well. Kart and Smash are the main reasons I was leaning towards getting a Wii U this year, this deal just sped up the purchase.

@Action51

Thanks, figured this is as good a time as any to jump on the bandwagon and it'll go well with the PS4 which I already have. I used the $50 Target gift card to get a $35 for the e-shop, looking forward to some of the downloadable stuff. Super Mario 3D World was sold out which was a bummer but I got over fairly late and it looked like across all platforms people had taken advantage of that buy 2 get 1 deal also going on this week.

Unless something bad is said about Xbox One, it seems people don't have much of a sense of humor. Make fun of Nintendo or Sony, no, we can't have that. I'm a Nintendo fan and I didn't have a problem with this at all. It was a joke, people need to find something more important to get mad about and there's other things surrounding Nintendo- clueless investors trying to force Iwata out for example- to be more concerned about than a few April Fool's jokes.

@MamaLuigi

Wouldn't mind 'em maybe getting a stab at Star Fox although to be completely honest I really like the inFamous franchise and think it would be a great fit at Nintendo and would hope the franchise would be allowed to continue. As for SP itself, it would be a great fit with Nintendo. MS will buy Naughty Dog the second it's put on the market. And I don't think any of these are big 'ifs,' because if anybody has been putting the pieces together it isn't exactly all sunshine and rainbows over there at Sony. No matter how far places like Dualshockers are willing to go to try and cover it up. And this is coming from a huge PlayStation fan. I'm not a fanboy though, refuse to stick my head in the sand (or in this case, up a giant corporation's rearend) and pretend like everything it does and everything surrounding it is perfect.

I was holding out hope this would turn out well. I don't usually let reviews influence my purchases at all but with these being as all over the place as they are, and the fact that that Kirby: Triple Deluxe looks pretty damn awesome, I may take my $15 I have on this and move it to Kirby.

This also confirms what I worried about with every successive showing after the reveal and what I was really concerned about after I saw it demoed last summer. The game just doesn't seem that good in all aspects. Story has potential I guess but this is looking like a 6/10 that when it was initially shown off seemed awesome.

@element187

Killzone is still a good looking game though. This is trash, I won't comment on the X1 version because we haven't seen it, I'd guess it's the same but who knows. If it is, both versions should be scrapped and given to an outside team like the Wii U version was. There's no reason this game shouldn't look better. It looks like a low-end PS3 game, that is utterly ridiculous.

@midnafanboy

Just something to keep in mind. Origins was done by a completely different development team at WB Montreal. Rocksteady- the team making this game- made Asylum, which was a 2009 release, and City which released in 2011. So if Arkham Knight releases this year, that's 3 years between the last two games, so I'm not concerned about the dev time at all. Origins was a stop-gap prequel to make some extra cash. It's not a good look but I wouldn't worry about the quality of this new game based on WB pulling a cash-in last year.

I know it's not the popular thing to say on gaming websites but I love those AAA experiences. I totally get where you're coming from though. I think it's why I enjoy handheld games so much. I love the Uncharteds and Batman Arkhams of the gaming world but the simpler, I want to say 'AA' or mid-tier (sorry I can't think of better terminology) experiences like an RE Revelations, Luigi's Mansion or Gravity Rush are nice to break things up.

That's one of the things I'm really happy about is it not being held back by PS3 and 360. Yes, it sucks for those who can't upgrade to the now current-gen right away but the game will always be there whenever those gamers do make the switch and at some point developers were going to move on to the new consoles.

Anyway, I'm definitely looking forward to seeing everything this game will have to offer. Not being able to drive the Batmobile in the previous Arkham games was really my only disappointment with them. Can't wait to see how Rocksteady works it in to the gameplay.

@CaviarMeths

Played a bit of Spider-Man 2 and enjoyed it but for me it's more like the new Thief game. I had fun, it did some stuff I like but isn't a truly great experience. To be fair to Web of Shadows, I never played it, there were other games at the time I was way more interested in so I missed the boat on it and to be honest, I probably wouldn't go back and play it now as there's upcoming games that are higher on my list. Including this one. I think there's potential here, just hope it doesn't get wasted. I'll probably end up buying for PS4 since I don't have a Wii U but I'll be interested to see if it uses the gamepad in any unique way. Also want to see how the portable versions turn out. I'm guessing bad but we'll see.

That's one thing I appreciate about Nintendo. While I have to admit not all its games are the kind I want to play anymore, I still love the Zeldas, Super Marios, Mario Karts, DKs and Smash Bros. and I can appreciate what games like Pikmin or Pokémon bring even if they're not games I enjoy. For the sake of the industry Nintendo needs to keep doing what it is does. The company makes enough money that I'm not concerned about its sales. It found a way to profit with Gamecube so unless the industry just completely implodes and swallows every company whole, I don't see Nintendo going anywhere. Only concern I have is Iwata getting forced out. I'm not sure how many would have the conviction to stand up to these idiot investors who want Nintendo to make crappy games like Flappy Bird.

I've become increasingly discouraged by what's happening this gen with all the home consoles and frankly, unless I see a big turnaround I don't think I give a damn if that market completely disappears in the next 5-10 years, it's getting that bad. If all this gen is going to be is last-gen ports for the Sony and MS systems and the rare Nintendo gem for the Wii U, I think the industry can do without these garbage systems. My one fear though is Nintendo going away from dedicated handheld devices like 3DS. The handheld market is still going strong and with systems like 3DS and Vita you can already get home console-like experiences on the go. So far, Iwata seems to be sticking to his guns, which is good, hopefully he continues to do so and other circumstances don't force him out of his current position in Nintendo because I do think there are others who may have caved to investors and gone ahead with making terrible iPhone games by now. Iwata hasn't, and those of us who prefer real gaming experiences should all be thankful for that.

I played both versions and prefer it on 3DS just because of the portable factor. Will say though, the framrate seems a bit more stable on the Wii version, but I also have the digital copy of the game for the 3DS, it's possible that the retail version runs better. I have heard of that happening for some games before. Either way, can't really go wrong, the game is still very playable on 3DS, I think it's really a matter of how important the portable factor is to you. If you're on the road a lot, I'd say go with 3DS.

Given the track record of Xbox so far in Japan you're probably right, but I still say we shouldn't rule it out yet. MS has failed in its first two attempts to buy its way into a significant position over there, but it was much more successful with 360 than the original Xbox... maybe third time is the charm? Like I said, it probably won't happen but when a company has as much money as MS and seems more willing than ever to spend it, you never know what it can accomplish.

It's inevitable that everything will go digital at some point. On the one hand it disappoints me because I like to buy physical copies of home console games. However, and I'm not really sure why this is, it's the complete opposite for me in regards to the 3DS and Vita which probably more than half my collection for both systems are made up of digital versions. With Vita it's partly because of PS Plus which has some great sales and I think with the 3DS e-shop it's just because it's so easy to access and surf through it and it leads to some late-night impulse buys.
