Not going to effect me because I'm not buying the game but I find it hilarious that some people find this offensive. It's like the mere fact that GTA exists drives some people up a damn wall. Don't like the feature? Don't use it. I wouldn't if I was buying the game and it was in there but still, if some people want to use if for whatever reason, who gives a damn? The stupid sh*t people get their panties in a bunch over these days is beyond ridiculous. All the dumba$$ery that takes place in the world and people cry over things so easily avoided. I wish people got half as angry over broken a$$ $60 games as they do over stuff like this. But no, you get p*ssed that your $60 purchase is full of bugs or has an online component that's screwed to hell and you're 'entitled.' Gamers need to get their heads out of their backsides.

@Windy
All digital will definitely happen but I don't think NX will go that route. I think we're looking more 5-10 years down the road before that happens, but the push towards all-digital will definitely start happening over the next few years.If I had to guess, NX will allow for both digital and physical but Nintendo, like Sony and MS have, will slowly start the push towards all-digital by making sure that's the only way to get certain games. It won't prevent me from buying consoles and it does have its conveniences but as a collector it's also a little saddening, it's like how there's basically zero magazines now. Sure, the internet is the best way to get info but I enjoyed looking forward to a new issue of PSM, Nintendo Power, EGM, GamePro or Next Generation arriving in the mail each month. Now, I only get two mags.

Just like digital purchases are also increasing for PlayStation and Xbox this is great for the console makers, the only disappointing part is for me as a collector I think it means we're getting very near the end of physical releases for games. Looking at the numbers and the trends, even Nintendo is going to really embrace digital and when that happens it's all over.

The Legend of Zelda, a 3D Super Mario and Smash Bros. would make the NX very tempting (price will be a very big deciding factor as well). I don't ever expect to see another game in the series, but Wave Race would be awesome. Wave Race 64 is still in my top 5 all-time favorite racing games.

I actually think with a 35 million-selling console it's extremely stupid for Sony to be going down the VR route and am in complete agreement that it's not something Nintendo should pursue just yet. And I'll be honest, if NX proves to be a massive success I'd hope it means the company avoids VR even longer. Just focus on the successful, money-making product and leave the VR nonsense to other companies. Add-ons are a horrendous idea and end up splitting the userbase. Nintendo is always at its best when it focuses on games and nothing more and that's what it needs to do for NX. Beyond the whole add-on aspect though, there's just a lot about VR that makes it iffy. Some people won't ever be able to use it for health reasons, I know I simply of no interest in it in general, especially if I have to wear a headset and I'm not the only person who thinks like that either. I do VR can find a nice place for itself but if it's going to be the future of gaming, I think that's a mistake.

Sorry, didn't see this until today. I'm guessing you probably already made a decision but the violence and blood isn't that bad in Injustice. I played far worse when I was 11. Not sure if there's a way to tone it down but the game is already pretty toned down to begin with.

Once again, the best selling PS4 games are all Western franchises which makes me wonder why the Japanese have never given the Xbox brand a chance. I've never bought the ridiculous argument that the Japanese 'hate American products' and these numbers make that clear. MS Japan is doing something seriously wrong.

Good call. I'm as far from politically correct as one can get but there's just some things that simply have to be done and covering up a 13-year-old girl in a game I have no problem with. Shouldn't be on display in real life, shouldn't be on display in a game. If the character was 25 however, yeah I would not be for the change but publishers can't do anything these days without somebody getting infuriated over something. Create a game with a male lead and he sucks and should be demonized because all men, especially if they are white, are trash. Create a game with a female lead and you will have a group immediate labeling her a 'Mary Sue' (although frankly there is far less backlash against female characters these days than male). Even I get caught up in it unfortunately. It bothers me we can't get a game today that can be considered a genuine product, unless its' from the indie scene. I'd like to give the benefit of the doubt but with all the PC movements these days I can't help but feel like when 343 makes a change to the new Cortana or Ubisoft throws in a transgender character that it was simply done to appease a certain group of people. At least with the retro-styled indie games I know the only agenda those devs are trying to push is to make a good game and hopefully make a decent living doing something they love.

Pretty sure Wii U has seen positive momentum this year in the U.S. as well. Good news because I'm going on the assumption that NX is a home console and if it can held off until 2017 that's for the best. Nintendo can't rush that system as much as some people want them to.

@liljmoore
Well, in the case of Tomb Raider when you idiotically cut out the console with easily the largest userbase, which also happens to hold the biggest fanbase for the franchise, that's what happens. I know, I know 'it's just business' that's fine but sometimes a company should put the fans first. Not only did the scumbags at SE flip its largest fanbase the bird, it also did a pathetic job handling the exclusive deal. And I'm sure I'll be accused of being a fanboy but you can ask anybody who posts with me at the PushSquare or Pure Xbox, where I post more frequently, that couldn't be further from the truth. Rise of the Tomb Raider is in fact my favorite game of the year, yet there is still talk about this exclusivity deal overshadowing the game itself. The people at SE are pieces of crap who don't care about the franchise, the same goes for the suits at Crystal Dynamics (not the actual developers themselves but the scumbag head of the studio like Darrell Gallagher). At the very least they should've been up front from the start that it was timed exclusive rather than be coy about it. I love how Sony gets slammed all the time but whenever it makes a deal, it specifies whether it's full or timed by saying things like 'first to PlayStation' or 'console debut.' MS could've mitigated a lot of this but everybody's best friend Phil Spencer was leading the charge for being coy with wording and that also hurt this game's marketing. But hey, Phil Spencer is a great person and just cares about making things good for everybody right? At least that's what the pathetic MS and Nintendo corporate salves and PlayStation-haters tell me. Please...

As a fan of the Tomb Raider series I'm very disappointed Rise of the Tomb Raider hasn't sold nearly as well as it deserved. However, as somebody who hates these dealings of taking formerly multipat games and making them exclusive, I'm happy to see the deal completely blow up in MS' face, especially after the scumbag way it was handled. And this is coming from a big Xbox fan. Either front the money to make the game full exclusive (still annoying but at least t leaves no doubt as to what's going on) or if it's only timed, be up front from the start, period.

As for Xenoblade, it's just an unfortunate case of being a niche game on a very niche console. Hopefully if NX proves to be a massive mainstream success Xenoblade Chronicles X gets a 'remaster' and a real marketing campaign.

@SanderEvers

But SquareEnix, Crystal Dynamics and the Xbox fanboys were all saying this was the best thing for Tomb Raider and it would help 'grow the franchise.' Not my words, theirs. But this went exactly the way I expected and as a fan of the Tomb Raider franchise I am disgusted beyond belief with SE about this. Sell the franchise and give it to a publisher that gives a damn and more importantly isn't completely clueless about the market. Sometimes fans need to be put ahead of everything else.

Gamer83 commented on Microsoft's Phil Spencer "Would Be Happy" To S...:

If somebody at Sony said this they'd be vilified somehow Phil Spencer always gets this 'well isn't that nice, look what he's doing for the industry.' Nonsense. He's doing a decent job but he's the same as any other figure head so I really don't know why he has grown-a$$ men slobbering all over him, it is ridiculous. To be fair some of those 'great job Phil' comments are from some of the most mind-controlled corporate slaves on youtube, but it's still scary that people are that obsessed with a brand and I'm sure Spencer finds it a bit weird himself the way some people hang on his every word and are quick to go to his twitter account with this 'you're the best, we love you' stuff.

But on topic, who wouldn't want Nintendo games on their console? For that matter, I'm sure Phil Spencer wouldn't also mind seeing Uncharted on Xbox. When it gets to the point though, and I believe it is going to happen eventually, where we're playing Nintendo, 343, Turn10, Naughty Dog, Sucker Punch and Polypony games all on the same system, we're in trouble as consumers.

@Mando44646
Sony has made the right choices in which third party franchises it's aligned the PS4 with and there's some like Resident Evil and Metal Gear Solid which are associated with the brand due to what's happened in the past. But even as more of a PlayStation gamer I agree that Xbox One has been better. I've recommended it to friends over the PS4 at this point because MS is actually putting out some exclusives and most of them are very good.

@aaronsullivan
If Wii U and especially PS4 cleaned up more than Xbox One did this Black Friday, MS needs to give up the dream of winning even the North American market this gen (which I still didn't think was out of the question when 2015 began). MS had by far the best values on the market this holiday shopping season. Of course I guess it all depends on what games you like but MS was giving away up to 3 games in some bundles, as well as a free game on top of that at some retailers and controllers at others. I'm hoping somebody gets as much solid information as possible soon so we can get a clearer picture of what how things went down. All I've read so far is Wii U won at Target, PS4 won at Best Buy although I have to say I was at a Best Buy and there were plenty of all 3 consoles to go around. Same at Gamestop and Walmart. Not sure that paints a good picture for overall industry spending but it is just anecdotal evidence.

@Peek-a-boo
I'm not sure either is overly upset. I think SE makes a lot of boneheaded decisions, the one to take Tomb Raider Xbox exclusive right at the very top, but I'd hope the people in charge were at least intelligent enough to make sure the payoff from MS would more than cover for what is missed out on PC and PS4. For MS it's a waste of money but that company seems to have a ton of money to waste, and 'good guy' Phil Spencer who's so 'passionate' about this franchise and wanting it to grow, can get his jollies knowing he shutout a ton of people from playing the game day one.

@Peach64

I'm not really sure they will be remembered similarly at all. Dreamcast was a powerful console with many forward-thinking ideas and most importantly, for its short time on the market it had possibly the best ratio of good-to-bad games of any console ever. Wii U has a great library, no question, but I definitely wouldn't say as good as DC's and it certainly isn't a forward-thinking console. It felt like more of a reactionary console than Nintendo coming up with its own quirky ideas. Hopefully the NX will be a return to form, though it doesn't really need to innovate much to get my attention. Just give me a powerful console with a standard controller, a better online setup (which seems to be on the way) and the ability to play the Mortal Kombats and GTAs on the same console as Super Mario and The Legend of Zelda and I'll be there day one.

It's funny. When Phil Spencer says something people kiss his rearend like he's being sincere. Yet Sony says something and it's 'sarcastic' or a cheap shot. The bitterness is strong. Anything any of these companies say about the competition that can be perceived as playing nice is just for PR. So I have no problem with people sticking their nose up in the air about this, but be consistent.

@MrGawain
Great post. However, I think it'd be wise for the people running these social media outlets to stay away from commenting on the competition. I don't care if the news is relevant and it's about an important milestone, you always have these idiotic fanboys who are going to take it the wrong way, so it's best to avoid the situation completely. There's always something going on in sports or politics. Post about that if something relevant to your own company's product can't be found.

Given how the console is selling outside Japan is doesn't surprise me. Doesn't mean I agree with the strategy. I've always been one to say when you have your foot on the throat of the competition step down, don't let up. MS let up here in the U.S. at the end of last gen, start of this one, and we've seen how it's had to react to some of those blunders.

@Volcanox
I get all that, and certainly understand from a financial standpoint as a student. I'm just saying I think this really is more reacting to, frankly terrible, Japanese sales than anything else. With the console selling well in EU and SCEE being the way it is, there probably won't be a price drop for a while. Heck, if I had to guess I think SCEA is happy enough with NA sales that it will concede second to MS this holiday and for months after as long as its a close second.

Gamer83

Gamer83 commented on Super Mario Maker Tops The Charts In Japan, Ca...:

@Volcanox
I'd say it has more to do with the fact that Europe actually likes the PS4 so why not ride the high for as long as possible? A price drop could help the PS4 pretty much control that market but it's already pretty well ahead and companies never do things until forced to. Even then, they sometimes don't react, Wii U should've had a significant price drop in NA a year ago.

I've been seeing this a lot but I don't know how a debut at No. 1 and doubling Wii U hardware sales can be considered anything less than great. Not as great as in the past maybe but the Japanese market, like every market, is vastly different now than it used to be. The good news for Nintendo is this game will obviously keep selling well for months and years and with some other big games should have Wii U hardware at 18K to 25K consistently the rest of the year with holiday sales spikes taking it to around 45K to 55K some weeks.

@Cyber-BLP--
SMG 1 to 2 is the SMB 3 to World argument. SMB 3 perfected the 2D platformer, World took that perfection and added some cool new mechanics and powerups and that's why I preferred it, but many of my friends will swear by SMB 3.

Galaxy 1, imo, perfected the 3D platformer but 2 has that same gameplay along with the addition of Yoshi which made it more enjoyable for me. I also preferred some of the boss battles. Picking and choosing a favorite between these games though is just arguing semantics. In the end I'd recommend them all to anybody who calls himself/herself a gamer.

I wasn't a big fan of the FLUDD myself, thought it seemed out of place, but I could've looked past it had I enjoyed the levels more. Also, Yoshi was pretty useless, I didn't like that either.

@Cyber-BLP--
I can maybe see the 'had to be there' argument in regards to SM 64, Sunshine had different problems. Collectathons I can tolerate but the FLUDD, the meh boss fights, Yoshi being utterly useless. All those added up for me. To be fair, I can see why a lot of people love Sunshine, I think part of the problem was also I was simply at a point in my life where I realized after 14 years of playing Nintendo games I was looking for something different. So it wasn't all necessarily problems with games as it was with my likes and dislikes changing. I did try to give to Sunshine another go not too long after I got the Wii, the problem was by then I had played through Super Mario Galaxy and there was no going back after that. That's arguably the best 3D Mario (I'd vote SMG 2 but many prefer the original).

This game is awesome, probably my favorite Wii game. I honestly didn't think they'd be able to top SMG 1 but just like he added to Super Mario World, putting Yoshi in the game put this one above the original, imo. In fact, I'd put SMG 2 at the top of the list of 3D Mario games. I also hold out hope for a third entry. Super Mario 3D World is excellent but it felt more like an evolution of 3D Land and wasn't really the direction I wanted to see the console Mario games take after the Galaxy series.
