flatspikes commented on Review: Super Mario Bros. (3DS eShop / NES):
A cynical cash in (£4.50!) or a great way to enjoy the classic? Like others I'm confused why the NES is a featured system, surely handheld VC on a handheld? The 3D remakes however I have no issue with, just shame this isn't likely to be one of those 'classics'.

The PEGI / ESRB rating are compulsory for Sony/Nintendo but not Apple? Can anyone explan how that is fair? It still doesn't explain the £3.50 on Wii and the £4.50 on 3DS. I'm also concerned that when WiiU pops up I'll once gain be asked to rebuy...

The end must surely be nigh? Does Game even have a year left? I've not shopped there in years but still feel if they go there will be a negative effect on gaming.

Just a thought if its £4.50 for a NES game what will GBA games sell for? £7.20 I fear...

£4.50 for a VC release on a handheld is crazy. I feel like Sony and Nintendo really don't get digital pricing. I'm loving my 3DS but will be seriously limiting VC purchases as there are better value ways to play (NES Cart for one).

Grabbed this for £9.97 in the recent Curry's sale... for that price it's proving to be well worth it:-)

£9, now not to sound tight but there are a bunch of retail games for £10 now, is this really better value than Rayman, Ghost Recon or SF4?

flatspikes commented on Review: Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3 (Game Boy):
So I have this already... is it worth the £3.60 to have it on my 3DS... part of me says yes... but then I'll need to re-buy Tetris too. To think I promised myself only new 3D stuff when I bought the console... Retro is too seductive!

I bought this the day it came out on VC. As part of my plan to build up games I can't experience on PC & iOS this hits the spot. The music graphics and ever evolving gameplay are great. I think a 7 is very fair but I'd still give it an 8 after 4 hours play.
It's a pity it's only in B/W but don't let that put you off for £2.70 it's a must buy! I'm unsure if there is a better VC game at that price point ?

Mad World competes well with 'hardcore' offerings I have on my PS3... I think the art style does a great deal to help the experience for me... HD visuals seem irrelevant on that game...

I'm not sure what draws me to this and other not aged so well games... I keep buying VC downloads and just bought the Ultimate Megadrive collection which has this on... I think I will play it right through to the end... just because I can!
Hey I might even enjoy it lol!

I hope once all this application 'ware' has been released we may finally see some quality from DSi Ware. Gameloft do seem to be leading over Nintendo at the moment on this.
I'm not sure what I expected from the service... a virtual console perhaps...

flatspikes commented on Nintendo Download: Toasters, Rainbows, Catchin...:
How long till DsiWare really gets good? Wii Ware had great(ish) launch titles but we're a good many weeks in now and I still feel it's all rather limited...
The other releases are pretty great although Space Harrier has dated very badly!

flatspikes commented on Sony Expects Wii Owners To Upgrade To PS3:
I have to admit my Wii is on everyday and so is my PS3... the PS3 gets more time per game but the Wii gets more plays!
I guess I should just be thankful I can have the best of both worlds! Just need more time now!

flatspikes commented on Sony Expects Wii Owners To Upgrade To PS3:
I love the greater online integration that the PS3 has such as friend lists, home, chat and trophies plus the Wii Shop could learn alot from the game demo's and trailers. Bluray is a great bonus but it was really about the different type of games for me, unlocked a different gaming experience (and 'new' retro access too!).
Upgrade again is the offending word here, I find the two systems to be complimentary offering a rounded gaming experience. The price of the PS3 is still heavy at £260 vs the Wii at £170 but that gap did used to be wider!

flatspikes commented on Sony Expects Wii Owners To Upgrade To PS3:
Sony really aren't great at modesty, although I guess this is a fantastic PR exercise as it gets people talking about their brand and product. I'm a PSWii or a WiiS3 (whatever) gamer and don't really think of it as an upgrade but as access to a different type of gaming.
The games I use on my Wii are mainly Wii Fit, Mario Kart Wii, My Life As A King, lots of retro downloads and old GameCube games. My Wii fills the retro and easy fun side of my gaming life. The PS3 is a more serious affair with games like inFamous, Resi 5, SFIV and Uncharted taking up vast amount of gaming time in one go.
The important thing is I've not sold my Wii! Retro Nintendo games, innovative motion control games, key Nintendo franchises etc. will never appear on the PS3. Likewise the 'heavy' games don't tend to appear on the Wii (although I just bought Mad World!) so the PS3 services that need.
I think it's the 'upgrade' language that causes the problem here...

flatspikes commented on Review: Mighty Flip Champs! (DSiWare):
So maybe not the turning point after all... will be interesting to keep an eye on the Metacritic score... Still I'm probably going to grab this if I can scrape the points together... As for the Art Style debate it's just got Nemrem to beat for me as that's the one I play most.

@KDR_11k - doesn't seem to be in Germany my brother looked for it out there (he lives there now) but bought it when he was last over here. A quick look at ebay.de shows a good number of UK sellers offering it for a reasonable price...

flatspikes commented on Nintendo Download: Adventure Island, Crystal D...:
Is it just me or is DSi Ware really not happening? When Wii Ware launched there were games of better quality and more of them than what's happening so far with DSi. Maybe I had too much hope but I really though N would push it with some variety and some quality of games... Hmmmm it's nice to have a shiny new DSi but it's really not living up to its promise just yet...

flatspikes commented on Retail Success Eludes GTA: Chinatown Wars:
This is potentially a real blow... I haven't had so much fun with a DS game before it seems I'm in a minority! I've tried to persuade my other DS owning friends to buy this too but none have so far! Guess this will shoot down the chance of any more GTA games on the DS then...

I loved this game initially but the game play became repetitive and tedious eventually and I stopped caring... shame really as it looks so nice and plays in a unique way. I'm very much on my own with this opinion though!
