ericthecheese commented on Site News: A Brief Update on Our Mario Tennis:...:

@BlockPunch This site has regularly delayed reviews/final scores for various other titles so it could properly review online functionality. The final score for Super Smash Bros last winter is a prime example. The preview (which was not so positive in the least) they posted a week ago reads practically like a full fledged review anyway.

You "don't mean to question the integrity of this site", but then you do exactly that.

I think the Wii U suffered from a horrible launch with tons of customer confusion. But it is home to some amazing software, an even high ratio than the glory days of the Wii in my opinion. Super Smash Bros, Splatoon, Super Mario Maker, Bayonetta 2, Wind Waker HD, Mario Kart 8 are among my favorites and I think games like MK8 are among the best in the entire franchise.

I think the Gamepad is a selling point with its off-TV play, but I also think developers got lazy and only used it for that instead of new and innovative ways to use it to enhance general gameplay.

I love the Wii U. Its sad that it will never have its potential fully realized.

Splatoon has a great chance at Best Family Game. I seriously think that (and maybe MH4) are Nintendo's best shots at anything this year. That shooter category is fierce and given the sales and reviews, I'd bet the house that Fallout 4 wins GOTY in a landslide.

ericthecheese commented on Nintendo Badge Arcade is Out Now in North America:

Just tried this and it is admittedly pretty addictive. The rabbit thing is funny and cute. And it does seem like there is a way to pick up at least one free play per day via the practice machine. Not bad as my first five free tries I grabbed some neat icons to replace the standard ones for the camera and music launchers.

ericthecheese commented on Minecraft Wii U Edition Has Been Rated By PEGI:

Working at Best Buy, I get asked all the time by potential Wii U buyers if Minecraft is available on it. I think having this game, even if you are not interested in it, is pretty big going into the holiday season. If it's only going to be a digital release, though, they need to get the word out big time that it is there.

I love Iwata, and it still is so sad to think of his sudden passing. That last Direct from April is tough to watch just knowing it was his last.

That said, I am very excited to see a new Direct, finally. My expectations are tempered, but glad because it kind of lifts the lid off the fear of if they would ever do one again. Hopefully, we won't have so many months between them again.

I loved this story so much, I read it twice. Who wouldn't want to find someone who shared their same passion for their favorite games? This is the ultimate dream for any gamer who is looking for love.

I can only imagine their reaction when the Zelda DLC was announced.

I picked Fatal Frame, The Binding of Issac and Resident Evil. The latter is only $4.99 on sale the next couple of days, which is an outstanding value for anyone who hasn't picked it up and has a large enough memory card to accommodate it.

"a misperception that Nintendo would take its library of content and move it onto the mobile platform. It doesn't look like they have any intention of doing that."

I don't think he means that Nintendo won't ever use any of its characters and franchises on mobile... but that they won't just port existing games and content to it. I can see them creating mobile content with Mario in it, for instance, but not move an emulated Super Mario Bros to it.

ericthecheese commented on Poll: The Tricky Issue of Retail Games as Down...:

@Olmectron I think you were pretty lucky. My transfer took two days, and one of my friend's took five days. Although they could have whittled the time down as well.

Nintendo has great customer service. But in this case, the fact that we have to call and even have to ask and wait is the problem. Hopefully, that will be remedied with the NX somehow.

ericthecheese commented on Poll: The Tricky Issue of Retail Games as Down...:

I'll always get physical over digital if the choice is there. I'd rather own the game, own the box artwork, and never worry about losing the "digital rights" to the game. I'll especially prefer physical as long as Nintendo has its horrible download policies in which you have to do system transfers instead of just logging into a new console and redownloading your stuff at your choosing. If you lose or have your system stolen, you have to call Nintendo and beg them to move your ID and downloaded games to your new system, and that takes anywhere from a couple days to a week. Ridiculous in this day and age.

ericthecheese commented on Review: Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer (...:

Still have this pre-downloaded and excited to play it. I wish it had a bit more of a challenge scoring system, and the game could be cheaper, but to me, it still has the feel of an AC game. The interior design is one of my favorite aspects of the main franchise. I'll take this anyday over Amiibo Party.

ericthecheese commented on Mario History: Super Mario 3D World - 2013:

When this game was unveiled at E3 2013, I was very unimpressed and disappointed. It seemed like a lazy port of 3D Land with HD graphics.

But then I played it and I really enjoyed it. Very happily surprised. I love the music in the game from start to finish, and the Cat suit and Plessie were amazing additions to the Mario Universe.

It's not the best Mario game in the storied franchise, but I don't think it's anywhere near the worst, either. I still love playing it today.

ericthecheese commented on Updated Mario Kart 8 Wii U Hardware Bundle in ...:

While I do understand the price point from Nintendo's stand point of profitability, but as a consumer - one that more than likely knows that the Wii U is coming to a rapid close - $300 is way too much to spend if I were "on the fence". More than likely, parents and kids do not know about the NX, but you'd be hard pressed to find someone remotely "in the know" who doesn't. I think a $250 or even $200 price point would do wonders to move systems off shelves and out of warehouses that would otherwise sit unsold at all.

ericthecheese commented on Talking Point: Assessing the Odds of Super Mar...:

Echoing here, but I think this will sell well to existing users - probably even moreso after the great NWC presentation. But as far as new users, Nintendo has undercut itself by not being able to stop talking about the NX whereas even people who don't regularly follow gaming websites know that a new system is on the way. There is no incentive for anyone to buy a Wii U at this point in time.

ericthecheese commented on Nintendo Announces Super Mario Maker Wii U Har...:

I wish the console or gamepad itself had some kind of special marking on it for Mario's Anniversary to make it really a Limited Edition... but Nintendo probably has a number of Wii U consoles already in surplus.

That said, still excited for this game!

ericthecheese commented on Nintendo Cancels Camp Miiverse in Honour of Sa...:

I really don't understand the outrage of SMM coming out on 9/11. I can see a point about a big festive release party in downtown Manhattan, but it's been 14 years since 9/11/01. And I don't say that because I'm saying we should get over it. I say that because we've had movies, books, music, and more have release dates of 9/11 since then. I don't see why Nintendo gets singled out when we've had stuff come out on that date since 2001.
