Dogpigfish commented on Orders Open For Xbox One in China as Nintendo ...:

Microsoft already manufactures everything in China, additionally has Chinese members. They'll have no problem. Nintendo has the same issue its always had; its smaller and less connected. They would need a new chinese manufactured console. Also, no ones even talking about China's software piracy policy; which will pose challenges for all three.

It's a great idea, but I won't buy one until it does something in a game. The smash bros idea doesn't justify a purchase. I want to see some true integration before jumping on the band wagon. Hopefully we'll know more soon, but my bet is the true playable integration will be announced at next year's E3.

This discussion comes up every year. Why isn't Nintendo increasing the hype of a release with virtual console games? Donkey Kong Country should have came out a couple weeks before the latest game. Original mario kart would have been a blast if it came out a few weeks before 8.

That's unfortunate. I'll be buying the ps4 version. The graphics were really bland on infinity 1 on the Wii U. No excuse for that. Also, 2 player sandbox mode slows down repetitively. It feels like the 360 version. When they phase out the 360, this issue will eventually go away.

I agree. Things have changed since 1983. Less people should chuck their controller in 2014. I hope its exactly like the new Mario's. Im playing super mario world and even that had some timing issues with the jump, like you have to jump a split second earlier. They should fix those issues on the virtual console. Games have come a long way.

Ha ha. These articles are always great! The only truth about this is younger audiences who were raised on a Nintendo console trend towards another system a generation later, because the child is older and can choose something a bit more mature. This is true in every new generation, so its not surprising to see Sony trying to imply that its a weakness for Nintendo.

I think it's Nintendo's fault. Different developer, same problem. I guess I'm getting $20 back. I love this game, but it's not a big deal for me if dlc doesn't get released. $2 for 5 pikmin levels is better than a skin pack. Btw, I've beat the game once and I still don't know how to use them, talk about an oversight.

I've actually really seen the benefit of kick starter. It prevents the big wigs from oligopolies and allows you to develop your own games. (Let me first say I have never used kick starter for my projects) But it helps those little guys in their basements or studio apartments and gives them a real opportunity to shine and bring creativity to the markets rather than being part of the rigorous hiring process. It allows programmers to become more like owners than rely on manafers who don't share the passion. Like it or not, this is allowing talent to approach the table.

I bought Wii U as my next gen machine. If Ubi decides to not support it then I'll be looking at Ouya and Apple box and they won't make anymore money from me. Face it, Indies are the future, not Ubisoft or EA if they continue their downward stride.

Their model has always been expensive full price games on an inexpensive system, so the price of entry was easy for consumers. Today it's a very expensive cost of entry and expensive software. The real fans will buy, but the majority of market share are parents and simply don't want to spend $300 on just a game console. It's going to get more difficult as cheaper systems enter the market with inexpensive software. Granted the quality will be less, but with a Minecraft or Terraria, Nintendo is going to have to change quickly.

Dogpigfish commented on Mario And Zelda On Mobile Could Bring New Play...:

This would be an easy way to make a quick buck, but like most people I'm sick of the constant rehash. What's killing Nintendo is the constant rehash of the same games over and over again. It's a bland strategy that is failing. They need to create some strong triple a titles that are new experiences. I predict we won't get a new Metroid, but an hd version of Metroid prime because it's cheap to do. While I certainly wouldn't be dissapointed with that decision it will not work well for the brand nor bring new gamers to the system. I love wind waker, but this low cost strategy is failing.

@Einherjar you are poorly misinformed. Read my comment again, we were talking about allowing European and western devs hands on Nintendo franchises. You wanted examples; Rare and Retro. Not sure what you are talking about with Capcom, let's try and stay focused here. Too much ADHD going around.

Dogpigfish commented on Iwata Accepts Responsibility For Poor Financia...:

Well Iwata still has two months to figure it out. If he blows it again then we call it a hat trick. Saying he's sorry doesn't matter. Stepping down when you know your ideas haven't worked is honorable. He did some good things for Nintendo, but the time has come to let someone else run the company who can return it back to profitability, plain and simple. Your opinions of Iwata don't matter when he is putting the brand at risk. He did some good things, but his ideas are simply not working. The management team needs to change.

Nintendo needs a cheaper device with a 100gig flash drive, so it runs clean and quiet and users adopt downloadable games out of the box. Additionally they need to make a cheaper pad controller, maybe consider a smaller screen to cut costs. Lastly, consider a deal with toshiba and add a DVD player. Put it out for $250 and don't spare the marketing budget. Bam! You are now making money. Free advice, the next one will cost you.

Well I'm not going to fall for the Xbox and ps4 did this type of nonsense. If Nintendo spent a tenth of the marketing budget of Sony they would have sold a crazy amount more. The problem is they didn't spend any because of the success of the Wii. Iwata got arrogant and thought people would buy with limited marketing, which is the Starbucks approach. He should have assumed the worse case when making his decision, not the best case.

Dogpigfish commented on Nintendo Has "Great Games" But Is Facing A "St...:

Also, here's a fact; Americans experienced a 2% tax increase in Jan 2013, some felt a 4% reduction due to social security and Medicaid tax increases. When Americans looked at their budgets insurance increased around 4% last year. This was a big financial hit to all working Americans. This came during the launch period and sales came down abruptly during this period. Just a thought. Apple saw this too and created 'cheaper' alternatives. 2ds is an example of Nintendo doing the same, resulting in high sales for that device. Nintendo is awesome and many people want to upgrade, but they need to provide a reasonably priced alternative. $300 is a lot for a device that sits at your tv and doesn't play DVDs or Blu-ray Discs.

Iwata needs to get American talent on board. He needs to let Reggie lead and contract additional American and European devs. Restricting these brands to Japanese devs is holding Nintendo back. Let Ubi use a licensed game, do the same for Acti. Stop talking with Japanese devs, the talent pool over there has drifted. Maybe consider Korean devs as well. Japanese pride is getting in the way and brought us the worst Star Fox (Namco) and worst Metroid (Team Ninja). Iwata needs to relinquish control and give it to Reggie, plain and simple.

MS already reported that games on their system will take 8 times more work to make. I don't expect you'll see any great games on Xbox until around 2016. All I hear are ps4 regrets, which keeps me from buying one. I've always been happy with the wii u purchase. You want to talk about games drought, talk about the other two.

Dogpigfish commented on Talking Point: Claims of Wii U Third-Party Dev...:

Last I checked more third party games have and will continue to be released on Wii U in 2014 when compared to the twins. I think they mean the big three pulling their support, but I don't see any real support for the twins either. I'd like a ps4, but with Infamous 2 being a flagship title I'm glad I got a Wii U.
